Best Point Guard in the NBA? Most Underrated?

These are definitely two different discussions, but it definitely interesting to see how they tie into one another, so we'll combine them for this discussion ;-). Who is the top point guard in the NBA? I guess this is not going on any kind of limb but I will have to go with Chris Paul. A lot of people will go with Paul because of his ability to facilitate an offense and make people around him better. The position has changed over the past few years so to have a guy like Chris Paul playing the point is a joy to watch. There are a few point guards in the same class, and answering any of them would not be a wrong answer. Guys like Deron Williams, Derrick Rose, Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, and Tony Parker all merit consideration for tops in the league. Now, to the idea of underrated point guards. There are a few in the NBA that remain under the radar but are rising through the ranks. Who would you say is that guy for you? I'm going to say Ty Lawson. He gets lost in the shuffle because he's in Denver and they are no serious contender in the league, but his game is big time. He's got a solid shot (though some might say he's too streaky), he's defensively solid, and may be one of the quickest players in the league. I think he could do with being a little more consistent, but his performance against the Lakers in the 2012 playoffs were a glimpse at what he could be in the NBA with more experience. Who do you think is the top point guard? The most underrated?

I agree with you pretty much. Ty Lawson is an underrated point guard. He is quick and very good with the ball. He can keep up with Chris Paul and Tony Parker. He isn't noticed as much because of all these great point guards. For me the best point guard is Russell Westbrook because he is an athletic, strong, quick but he needs more experience and smarts. But I never seen a point guard like that. A point guard that can dunk and very quick at the same time.

Indeed, there are many great point guards in the league today. I will go with Chris Paul as the best PG right now for many of the reasons you stated, and that he is probably the most complete, all-around point guard right now. There's not much he can't do that a point guard should be able to, so that's why he's my pick. The most underrated point guard also has some compelling options. I could go with a homer pick and say Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors because he is a great pure shooter and is on the rise, but I won't do that. Instead, I'll go with Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies. After seeing the way he performed last season, especially in the playoffs, I think he has the chance to break into, say, the top 10 point guards in the league in the next year or two. He's still young, and has a good outside shot and is a pretty good passer as well. He also plays good defense and is fairly quick.

the best point in the NBA? I don't think people should forget rondo, the leader of Boston Celtics. his game is special. he is diffrent from other point guard in NBA. he has his own way to play basketball and change the game. I think people always forget what rondo did when thet discuss who is the best point guard. why Boston can compete with Miami last season. the answer is they have rondo. rondo always have all-powerful performance in big games. he can make his teammates better. he can change game, take Boston win games, so rondo is the best and he also think so.
