How much importance do you put on pleasurable activities and hobbies?

The activities and hobbies we pursue for pure pleasure enrich our lives and remind us that there is more to life than obligations and routine. Much of what we do each day is motivated by our survival needs, we work to sustain our bodies and some may even consider hobbies to be an indulgence, They are in actuality a tool that enables us to build a more fulfilling existence. When we engage in pursuits that have little value beyond the joy they inspire, we broaden the boundaries of our experience and actively banish boredom. The activities we enjoy also give us another variable for defining ourselves as they become a vital part of our lives. How much importance do you put on such activities?

I probably should put more importance on different activities and hobbies. I'm pretty sure I don't do enough recreational activities. I spend a lot of time taking care of my precious little girl, our home, my husband, and working. And it's hard keeping up with all of those things so i rarely have time to do the things I enjoy. Hopefully in time my husband will help out more with really "anything" so that I can have a little time for myself.

Hi Dominique, It is important that you have time for activities that you enjoy outside of your regular work.If you feel that you aren't getting enough, look at what you are doing and see if you can find more time. Thank you for responding. Blessings

Yeah I will do that. I know I need more time to myself as I have been feeling very stressed and overwhelmed lately. I know if I keep up with all that is going on I'm going to end up having an anxiety attack. So I will have to talk with my husband more about him doing more of his share.

It's right there up on the top of my list of important things to do....I do crafting and sometimes after a hard day I unwind that way...put on the music and make some cards and the stress goes right away. The same thing with camping...as I drive down to our camper I can feel the stress go out of my neck! And its a great time spending quality hours with my family.

If you have a job you love, you will never work a day in your life! Those with a job of work, endanger their health and shorten their lives! My boss came in one morning and caught me hugging my secretary. He said in a rage, "Is this what you get paid for ?" I told him, "Nope ! I do this for free."

Hi barehugs, Thanks for the laugh, but I agree if you love your work, it really doesn't feel like work. Blessings.

At the moment (July and August) I work 7 days a week. I work, sleep and spend some time online before I am going back to work. I think that it is very important to find some pleasurable activities at the moment. I don't have much free time, but I still want to find some small ways to enjoy myself. If I only work and sleep it gets a little too boring and it is hard to keep my motivation. I am planning some small trips out of the house in order to see and do something different every once in a while. I am going to visit an island, a fair and medieval festival during the summer. I think that those activities will give me new energy and make it easier for me to handle my extra job.

Hi Porcospino, Yes, you need some recreation, however short and I hope you won't consider working seven days a week for more than two months. We need at least one day off in a week, for rest and enjoyable activities. Thank you for coming here and sharing your thoughts. Blessings.

I believe that is just as important to have fun and pleasure in life as it is to be serious and make a living in a job or career. We work diligently to fulfill our responsibilities but we also have a responsibility to the down time in our lives. We need those activities that give us relaxation and pleasure to complete the cycle. It's those little moments that we are doing something to make us happy that even out the turmoil of our lives. so I think that pleasing activities are very important. without them we may find ourselves in a rut that we can not get out of.

Hi Pose: I agree with you. Doing some comfortable activities everyday is an important priority for our own health and to avoid stress. In my case, reading is an activity that helps me feel relaxed and gives me pleasure. That's why I take my time to chose the place and be in complete silence before starting my lecture in my room. It's almost like a ritual but it's very important for me to feel comfortable ALVARO

hi dear Pose thats an interesting discussion. With all the commuting and working I do only have time on weekends for pleasurable activities and hobbies. Its reading, snail mail and personal e mails, cooking, and my church, here. You are right, if we only work work work we wont be balanced and be unhappy. I dont think the workaholics are happy folks deep down in their hearts. Right now I try to put some balance into my weekends. There are some house chores too which need a bit of attention but I make sure I get to my e mails and snail mails at least.
