Freelance sites and Examples of work.

Would it be a good idea to put Mylot discussion responses, to show examples of work in regards to writing works on freelance sites like odesk? In other words, when you are building your profile in such sites. And you show examples of work you do. If you believe you have some well written discussion responses, would it be worth using as a an example of your writing ability and or works. What other forms of writing examples are a good idea to use?

I'm not on odesk, but I am a freelance writer with others sites and will start writing fiction soon. If you just need to show that you have a good grasp of the English language, posting examples of what you've written here might be ok, but I'm guessing that for the majority of writing sites, that wouldn't work out too well. Do you have to provide links to where you've written, or provide examples of text via email or copy/paste to the site? I don't think I'd direct anyone to myLot to see whether I know how to write or not. You could start a blog and link to or copy your posts from that easily enough.

Thank you for your kind response! I just thought of your blog suggestion last night as well. I am currently in the process of creating it, and it is not published yet. But soon enough it will be. And I will use a majority of that I'm sure. I normally wouldn't think of using Mylot as main source, or even a source at all. But right now I am new to freelance writing. And I don't have many sources to pull from, for good examples. So with that said, I know it will be hard getting hired for a job to take on. Seeing that you are a freelance writer, could you please direct me where you started out? And what sites you use? What would be a good place for me to begin? I am thinking about signing up for sites like Triond, Hubpages, Taskbroker, and Yahoo voice. After a couple months of using those sites. I should have enough examples to better my chances of landing a gig on say, Odesk or Freelancer. Your thoughts?

I've been publishing on YCN (Yahoo Contributor Network, which is Voices, Yahoo! News, Sports, Shine, OMG, etc) for several years now and I do ok. It's harder now than it was because even those articles you don't request upfront pay for must be reviewed, unless you're a Featured Contributor (and I am). Still, you can still publish most anything you want as long as you're within TOS, and it's a good way to get your feet wet. I'm very active there on the forums helping people, and we have Facebook groups for support too. If you go to my profile here on myLot, you can find the link to my writing beneath my avatar.

Thank you very much. I appreciate your insight. I look forward to possibly contributing to YCN in the near future.
