Walking to the store?

There are two stores within walking distance, each about thirty minutes of a walk. I thought about walking to the store in the morning instead of waiting for a ride. This will give me time to do what I want. I could walk to one that I usually do (which is walmart) but then I don't want to walk home. If I walk to another store, it's not nearly as much time of walking until I'm back in my neighborhood. The only problem with that is, it's just a grocery store no clothes or anything like that. I need to start walking and I want to. If I walk to the store I will be able to get what I want and stay for as long as I want, no rush, no pressure. This will give me time to figure out what I want. Plus, HEALTH obviously. I'm looking at recipes now as I want to make something. I'll bring my reuseable bags with me so I can carry more stuff but with less bags. What would you do? If I go I'll wake myself up at 7:30, take a quick shower and change and then start walking.

I love to walk but since I'm in an rural area, it's a 10-mile jaunt just to get to town, so walking isn't an option for me. I like on a county road that is up and down through the hills and I don't think I'd even make it a half mile, and it's very dangerous and I'm not even excited about driving on it, much less walking. No curb or shoulder at all. I do like living away from town, though, so the benefits outweigh the distance, to me.

I used to live out in the country and I definitely would not have walked to the store from there. There was a general store not too far away but they downsized and it was horrible so not worth going (atleast for me). The road I'd be walking on is still curvy, but I can cut out a lot of that curve by walking through the neighborhood first and exiting at the exit closest to the store. It's still a five to ten minute walk to the store from there though.

We've been having triple digit temps here so we would have to walk in the morning, or late evening. I actually would also like to walk to the store. It's not a problem walking there, the problem is walking back home carrying the purchases. I keep wanting to buy one of those "old lady" shopping carts. In the past we have used a stroller to bring our things home. We've walked in the past because of not having a car. Now we should do it for our health and to save money on using gas in the van. I just looked at the temps here and it's in the 70's right now, but will get up to the 90's. It could rain as well. If it does that while i am still there, I'll just simply get money back from my debit card and call a cab. I've seen the "old lady" shopping carts and I've thought of getting one for myself, but when it comes to using it to walk? It'd still not be safe around here. There are not many sidewalks.

I think it is a good idea. The walking would be good for you and having the freedom to shop as you would choose. I am one of those people who wants a purpose if they are walking, and you sound about the same way. Be careful of the weather, but just get some good shoes and go. You also might think about a backpack for stuff as it lets you move your arms more freely.

I think it is good to walk to the stores and I think it good to do walking. Most times we spend time for walking. Longtime ago people used to go to places walking and they had been health in their life. I think you have given a good idea by walking to the stores and walking back. I think most times we carry the groceries with us while walking and this will be an exercise in our lives.

Unless you really need to buy clothes, I would say go with the grocery store. Shopping really is so much better when you don't feel rushed. I remember getting rides to stores before when I was without a car for a time, and I felt pressured to hurry even if the person said that there wasn't a rush.

Walmart's deli carries something that I love to get, but I can always go later and get that. I feel rushed because the person who takes me is always getting upset if I take more then fifeteen minutes... I HATE THAT! I need a car sooo bad, but I don't need to added expense lol.

If I knew I wouldn't want to walk back, I might have a ride for when I got finished. Just have them pick me up after my shopping is done. I think that walking is good for us and it gives us time to clear our heads. I wouldn't want to walk back either though..not with the stuff I bought from the store. Take care.

Sounds like you have a good idea. Good exercise may help your day of work go better to. And help you to sleep better at night. I know that part of the reason I don't sleep well at night is because I don't do much exercise to speak of. Sounds like you have some good ideas.
