Eye Glasses or Contacts?

My eyesight ceased to be 20-20 when I entered college. My vision is currently at 250-225. It seems it goes up and down but never more than 250 thank God. I wear both eyeglasses and contact lenses. Which one do you prefer: eye glasses or contact lenses? Why?

I had to get glasses when I was three years old. When my doctor did my eye-test, he told me to look at the chart and tell me what letter I saw. I said, "What chart?" The other kids called me "glasses girl", and I found it terribly offensive for some reason. Even wound up in tears multiple times. In elementary school I was branded a geek, for being quiet, shy, smart, and wearing glasses all the time. I kinda hated it. I hated wearing glasses. I didn't outright rebel like some kids did, I wore them diligently and didn't "lose" them. But when I found out I could get contacts, I jumped at the opportunity. I've worn contacts since I was 14. I prefer them because I can hardly feel them, so my vision correction is practically invisible. I don't like the way glasses make me look, and I've never found a style that I liked the look of. Contacts have their own set of problems, but I prefer that set of problems.

I was a kid when I got glasses, so my entire childhood was being a geek and getting called names. I could pick out my own glasses, but I was a kid so I just picked the ones I thought looked pretty and I didn't have any sense on what looked better on me. I had these purple splotched glasses in 2nd grade, and they were so darn hideous it's embarrassing to look back on them! I have a pair, but I don't think they're fashionable, just cause I never thought of any pairs of glasses as fashionable. I just don't like glasses. lol

Well, I would have hated glasses forever had I never met a few guys who think girls in glasses are hot :) They inspired me to choose better, but of course the better ones are always pricey. Eep!

I had my own share of being called names like geek or nerd or 4-eyes. Back then I was only a broke student relying on my allowance so my mom has to get me my glasses. And she buys those unflattering ones. It didn't help that being Asian, I wasn't born with a high nose bridge lol! Good thing now they have more fashionable eye glasses which I can get and use whenever I give my eyes a break from contacts.

After wearing glasses since the age of about 7, I prefer now to wear contacts. I feel much more confident with my contact lenses and I find them so much more comfortable then glasses. Having said that I do still have glasses and wear them every now and then when I am having a lazy day and do not have to go anywhere.

Like you, I prefer contacts when I am out and about. I am clumsy (I admit!) and often times when I am just about to tuck a stray hair for example, I almost always knock off my glasses and...break them. I do give my eyes a break from contacts when I get home. Also, there are occasions where I think eye glasses are not too fashionable for me.

Yea same here, but it's normally one of my two kids that are normally knocking them off and breaking them. :D

I use contacts during important or special occasions while glasses during an ordinary day. Contacts makes us more comfortable and cooler when it has different color. But i observed that it makes my eye dry and that is what makes me uncomfortable that you still need to drop water to avoid it and glasses sometimes makes my ears hurt. I also use glasses that has designs to enhance my look and at the same time sharpens my sight

I know right? Sometimes when we have to dress up for an occasion of two, we have to rid of the glasses. Contacts really are not for long term use. Although my doctor assured me it's okay to keep my contacts on overnight as long as it was replaced and re-sterilized, I still can't risk it.

I am wearing glasses since I was 18 year old. Last years at school was hard, because I had difficult seeing what our teachers are writing on the board. When I started my first job, an year or so after my eyes problem, I already needed wearing glasses, because I was working with people and couldn't afford handling my weak eyes vision. Then we bought my first glasses. I am wearing now my 3rd type of glasses and I feel great with them. When I was buying my second type I was wondering to buy contacts or again glasses and I was so used to see my face with glasses, that I just couldn't think of buying contacts and how I would look wearing them. Simply said I couldn't say goodbye to my face with glasses and then I bought the second type, now the 3rd.

As they say, different strokes, different folks. Or something like that lol! Good thing you're able to come into terms with something that is comfortable for you. I know contacts isn't for everyone, in the same manner that glasses wouldn't work for some either.

I have healthy eyes and I don't have to wear both. but if I were on your position, I would choose glasses than contact lenses. Contact lense is fashionable and looks cool, but I love to see people with glasses. moreover, use glasses is more natural and safe

I also do have a bad eyesight and i'm only using eyeglasses because when I ask my optometrist which is better she said eyeglasses. Acoording to her contacts can trigger the vision of our eyes grow up easily. She adds that it also last for only months unlike glasses that can sustain for years.

Yes, if you are using disposable contacts you have to rid of it after a couple of months even if it's still in "good condition" because there will always be risks of eye infection. I should now, I got this due to extended use of contacts. There are contacts that last for years but you have to have it "boiled" at the optical shop. Practicality-wise, glasses sure are better than contacts.

i prefer glasses because they're easy to wear and doesn't expire unlike the contacts they expire, they may damage your eyes if you're putting them on and you have to buy the solution so you have to pay more than the glasses.

Eye glasses. It is less irritating and low in maintenance.

When I first need corrective lenses, and being a first time lens user, my doctor advised me against using contacts; he said with eyeglasses, it's take it on, take it off as needed. Unlike contacts which as you said, requires a lot to maintain. But now that I'm older and know better than my younger self, I decided using contacts alongside my glasses.

i think i prefer eyeglasses, because contact lenses makes your eyes iritate sometimes. they need an extra fluid that will make you need to cost some money for that. and if you put the contact lenses with your bare hands but you forgot to wash it, then its gonna be a problem

Last year, I suffered from a scarred pupil due to extended use of disposable contacts. My ophthalmologist advised me to refrain from using contacts for 3 months or until the scar was healed. Thank God it never left any mark on my pupil (it would be very visible since I have brown eyes). With that incident, I began to love my glasses again. I just hate that sometimes they leave marks on the bridge of my nose; they sometimes irritate my skin.

I use contacts!!! I have practically been wearing them since way back that nobody would even believe I have bad eyesight!! My vision is -400 on both eyes.

I prefer contacts for many reasons, including many that have already been mentioned. But a very big reason for me is how people treat me. With thick lenses such as I have, people have trouble seeing your eyes. Whether they are conscious of that or not, it makes them uncomfortable. When I wear contacts, I find people are more friendly, more apt to smile at me. For me, that was the biggest change I noticed.
