hi guys!I believe most of us here are already aldults and in this world we are living in, we are faced with challenges of earning for a living to sustain our daily needs. As a nurse, I do not have a high paying job but I feel that there is fulfillment in what I am doing. Most nurses today have shifted to other jobs because of the oversaturation in nursing business and a few opportunities. More jobs such as call center agent are becoming popular because they are earning well in thsi job. But have you ever been in a situation where you ahev to choose whether to pursue your dream career or shift to a high paying job thjat is not in line with your degree in order to earn more and satisfy your needs and wants? I guess for parents they would really prefer a high payuing job to provide well fro the family, like going overseas for a job that is not there dream job.I guess it depends upon the situation but I believe while we are still young we must strive to be productive and learn to be independent. What is your opinion about this? Please feel free to share and thanks.:)

I am a perfect sample for this discussion of yours. Hehe. I have started working for customer service years ago and got promoted to specialist for reports and statistical analysis. I left a post of a call center manager to be a specialist. I was a senior manager in a call center for workforce mgt... Ut when i transferred to a nn call center industry i was only a level two specialist. Can you just imagine how ifelt hen this was the case where i have been the manager and then chose to be a subordinate in a multinational bank. Oh but it was no problem coping a i want to really forward a career. I know call centers pay larger than other industry but career growths in call center is not very rewarding. at least in my opinion. When you built a career in call centers you will be stuck in the same industry. Whereas building a career with specialiation will get yu farther than what being a call center personnel would take you. To illustrate a manager in a non bpo would take years and years of experiencee... in may call enter some are managers for three ears and if their cv is compared ore decisions or vital projets would appear in the former than the latter and the choice would be the other manager than a young call center manager. Also... Call centers pay high for the toxicity of te work... Stress in the work because of changing shifts and so on. Ot for what you actually know as a personnel in there. They would even accept high school grduates only nowadays.. Because many cannot stand the environment even if the pay is good.

Hi! I understand what you are saying and you are really right. The trend in jobs now is being a call center agent. Easy way in and high paying but your health is at stake because of the schedule, you body is working at a time when it needs rest. That is why nobody can stay at that job for so long although it really makes the wallet fat. I do hope that you will be happy with what you are doing now. Stay positive and thanks for sharing.:)

In this time of financial crisis, I would definitely choose a high paying job in order to sustain my needs in life. We have to be practical nowadays because what will you do with your chosen career if you have an empty stomach?

I never want to be stuck in a job I am unhappy with, I don't care how much it pays! If you're miserable with work, you're going to be very unhappy in life. I would much rather be in a career that I enjoy, and that is what I'm planning on doing. I am currently in college to get an Associates Degree in Business. My dream is to work with the Humane Society when I graduate, and to one day start my own small animal rescue. It would be a nonprofit, so clearly it wouldn't be a high paying job...but it is what I truely what I want to do with my life! And I think that is what would make me happy!

For me, job fulfillment is more important than the salary. It is much important that you love and enjoy what you are doing because from there you are getting the drive to work and to do good. If you are motivated to work harder then everything will follow. Like you will get promotions thereby have a good salary. You just right in doing what you love. In time, you will be rewarded by following what you want.

hello eljayo, for me, my opinion to your discussion "which is more important pursuing your career or have a high paying job? in my own, i go with what satifies my needs, pursuing a career is also good, but we need money for our daily living and for our future needs, working out of your career as long you can do it, you like to do it,because you need money is good.I'd rather go with high paying jobs.

Yes if we can combine the career and high paying, that will be perfect. But sometimes it is very difficult to find such a good job, when I was young,I think career is the most important thing so I choose the job which I think it will be help to promote my career, but now I change my mind, now I think high pay is everything,it is so hard to live in this society,I have no money,no girl friend,no house,no car and no enough money in my bank account, life is so tough to me.Without money I can get nothing,I was under a great deal of pressure right now and the key is I do not have a high pay job,so actually I'm looking for a better job for my future,I can not always keep in this position any more.

Hi! If you do get both then you are a lucky person. Not everyone has that opportunity but it is always possible. In this time we really need to weigh our decisions especially if you mare the bread winner. I do hope you will get that job that you deserve and which will make you happy and satisfied.:)
