do the harry potter books promote immoralaty and immoral behavior

the harry potter books have come under fire from different critics for many reasons.perhaps the most serious accusation is that is teaches immorality by telling children it's ok to act immorally on behalf of some caus that is percieved as more important.thus,it is argued, harry potter teaches kids to accept moral relativism or moraaal egonism rather than the moral absolutism of traditional christianity.does harry potter promote immorallity?is cristianity on moral absolutes? what are you think about this?

Hello :D. I think that moral absolutism isn't presented even in the bible, and religious people trying to judge other books based on this weren't paying that much attention in Sunday school. For example, in the story about two angels descend to warn lot about Sodom and Gomorrah, and a bunch of men came to rape them, to which Lot answered by offering his virgin daughters so that they wouldn't rape the angels. As far as I know, offering your daughters to be raped isn't a morally accepted practice, and yet since its for the greater good it's not frowned upon. So while I would think harry potter shouldn't be used for what it can teach but for entertainment, since morality and behavior is something you should learn from people, not from books, no moral is applicable in all situations, so the fact that it isn't in the book isn't wrong, but realism.

i really like harry potter books and movies. for me it isnt immoral or anything. those books are wonderful and make children want to live adventures with harry. its normal that in adventure books there is a bad guy that is supposed to be killed. if harry is accused to be immoral then a lot of books would have to be taken too. for me harry potter books are great and j k rowling is a great writer. i wish she writes some new stories that are as good as harry potter^^

its just sad that she didnt write anything yet after harry. if she doesnt write something soon maybe she will start to be forgotten. like happens to famous artists that once were very famous. maybe soon she decides to create a new story. would be sad that she wrote only harry stories. writers shouldnt write only one great story but many ones. im also sad that movies ended too. i like harry movies a lot. i would like that the ending of harry was different.

Morality is set by your belief and upbringing, what's moral to me may be immoral to another. That being said, is it immoral to be loyal to your friends? Is it immoral to fight an evil until it is vanquished? Is it immoral to use questionable actions to get to a moral end? In Harry Potter, Harry, Ron, Hermione, the Order of the Phoenix, and the other 'good guys' did what was needed, to survive, to prosper, to cleanse the world of the evil. Books and movies like these are usually the extreme, but at times the world is extreme, and extreme actions are needed. There is reality in what is shown. You lose loved ones, people get hurt, but if we work together, if we keep moving forward, we will prevail. The only immorality in this is how people judge this and put their morals as what should be the morals of everyone. It's not immoral, but wrong to think that children are too young or naive to think on their own. They understand more then we realize.

I think Harry Potter does the absolute opposite firstly because the basis of the story is in good verses evil .In my opinion the Harry potter books have several important messages such as the power of love, something dumbledore is always talkking about usually in how it is much more powerful than hatred and that it was harrys ability to love that made him more powerful than voldemort. The Harry potter series is also very anti prejudice,in the harry potter books the allegory for racism is the hatred and prejudice against muggle borns which is rejected by the wise and good guys such as dumbledore.Apparently pope John paul 2 liked the harry potter books for teaching the children about good and evil.

I don't think that the haRRY pOtter series of books in any way promotes immoraslity or its behaviors. Harry potter is a very magical and visionary world of fiction. If you see this kind of behavior as being portrayed through these pages, then perhaps it was already in your own mind.
