How to identify that we used GROUP BY

Hi all, I attended one interview yesterday and in that they asked one question like "How can we identify that we used GROUP BY in the query by seeing the output" and I tried to answer but didn't satisfy the interviewer. Can anyone please tell me the answer for this.
