Staple Food

Hi there guys...I just had a great breakfast today of a cup of rice, and egg, sardines, and a cup of coffee with chocolate mixed into it... As usual, rice for breakfast. This is the usual thing in the country I'm from, the Philippines. Almost all Filipinos can't survive a day without a nice heavy meal of something with rice in the morning. Although bread and cereals are enough for most people around the world, it's quite different for Filipinos. I know a lot of friends who, even though they've had a quantity of toast and cereals for breakfast, can't make it to 10AM without feeling the hunger pangs again. I know this is not so in every country. In most western countries, I believe that rice is only taken sometimes. Westerners, I hear, like beans, mashed potatoes and such instead of rice, and for breakfast, they usually like breads, cereals and such. It's really quite interesting how different cultures can be so entirely different.

Different countries have different habbits about food. In my country, there are different customs, too. I live in the north part. In the morning and evening, we often eat bread , some vegetables and soup. We just eat rice for lunch, sometimes noodles.

Which country are you from? It's really interesting how cultures can be so different and yet, in some way, so the same.

Wow. Yes, I think your style is really healthy, since eating a light meal in the evening is more healthy than eating a really heavy one. But for me, I can't survive with just fruit and vegetables for dinner. I want something that will keep my stomach full until the next day's breakfast.

I can hardly survive a day without rice also , it s the main part of our dish . The Caribbean people also love rice , we dont eat it alone but with meat but almost all our dish include rice . We dont eat rice for breakfast though just lunch and dinner . Our breakfast would be more like egg and bread with cereal , because we have little time to get ready to go school and work . Cultures are beautiful and unique .

Cultures are certainly beautiful and unique. It's amazing how some people are so different from others, but we are all one.

Yes, it really is important to have a staple food for your main meals everyday. Because I don't want to have to eat junk food everyday. I enjoy having rice for dinner everyday. I like to have white rice and sometimes I have Brown rice. Even though brown rice takes a while to cook up. I just find brown rice to be more filling than white rice. I like to have vegetables with my rice and some protein too.

I like white rice and...have you ever tried Korean rice? It's sticky and a big purplish...really rather delicious and definitely more filling than brown or white rice...I like white rice best, of course, but Korean rice is a different way to enjoy rice.

Mouth watering! Kinda missed the good old fried rice that goes perfectly for any fried food as well. And the coffee, just love the smell of it. Yummy!

Indeed varied cultures go for different meals and yeah it's nice to know that the variety causes each of the culture to be unique in its way. Even here in the Philippines there are variety of breakfast meals. Not everyone here actually eats rice in the morning, I know a tribe of people (or several) who go for boiled potatoes instead of rice. As for me, I could never have a meal without rice because like you, I'd feel hungry in the middle of the work-day prior to lunch time. And regardless of how many 'other' things I eat, I will never be content without rice. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Oh, yes! If I don't have rice for breakfast, I'm usually hungry again at about 10AM. It's a different kind of fullness you feel when you eat rice-a real satisfying feeling. It's amazing how different cultures and different countries have such different ways, right?

That sounds like my kind of breakfast, only I will replace sardines with fried dried fish (tuyo) and chocolate with coffee. But the main thing, fried rice, is always ever present. In the mornings, once the smell of crushed garlic being sautéed is a sure sign that fried rice is on its way.
