Do you use the umbrella when it is snowing?

I live in a place that it will never snow. I just watched a movie and there is one scene with snow. I suddenly think that it is necessary to have an umbrella when it is snowing. If you don't have an umbrella, the snow will fall on your coat and it will melt. Then you will feel frozen.

No not frozen , just wet. Believe it or not there are different types of snow. If it is light, you can brush it off Before it melts. But if it is heavy, it falls and sticks to your hat or hair.It melts and makes you wet.It doesn't feel like ice , just water. With this type of snow , an umbrella is a good idea.

I don't live where we have snow often so no we do not use umbrellas when it is snowing. Normally, since it is a novelty we are outside playing in it. I also think that it would depend on whether or not the snow is a bit dry or if it is mixed with some sort of ice or rain as well. If there is not enough precipitation mixed in with the snow it will not stick so there is not worry of getting your clothes wet.

No, it isn't necessary to use an umbrella in snow, for one the only time the snow would really melt is when one goes inside, because outside if it is cold enough to snow, the flakes are frozen. Of course when we play in the snow, we can get wet, because we are sledding in it or throwing snowballs at one another, but you can't take an umbrella down a hill side..lol

As I thought the melting snow will make the coat wet and therefore you will feel cold.

No, because snow is not in a liquid form and though your coat might get a little wet, unless you are wearing a light jacket. Because all winter coats have insulation that prevent water from penetrating, so you don't get wet like if you were in a rain storm. Not that I think about it, the only time I get "wet" is when I am wearing jeans and I sit in the snow, my coat protects me from getting wet. Though when we wear knitted gloves, they offer not protection from the melted snow and so we buy thermal gloves that does protect us and that is only if one makes snowballs. Just by walking int he snow, and wearing a good winter jacket, one stays warm and dry..

If I saw someone using an umbrella in the snow, I would think that there was something seriously wrong with the person... and I would then proceed to put some serious distance between myself and that person. Just as there is proper clothing for warm weather, so too is there proper clothing for cold weather. If you are dressed appropriately, you won't feel terribly cold when you are out in the snow. In fact, some of us like to go out and play in it... and, then, go back inside and have some hot chocolate. With the exception of one year, I have always lived in areas where snow is common--and I wouldn't have it any other way. I put in my year in a state that did not have an actual winter, and the place never felt right to me--too sunny, too humid, too buggy. I need four distinct seasons--including winter with some snow. Otherwise, I just feel like my equilibrium is thrown off.

Hi, youless! I don't know the situation of other places in the world, just based on my experience, I don't think it's a good idea to use umbrella when it snows, especially when the snow is heavy. The snowflakes have tackiness, they won't flow down from your umbrella. The result is the umbrella will become heavier and heavier. Furthermore, usually it winds in snow days. The wind will blow the snowflakes to you from all directions. Umbrella won't work. As for the clothes, as it snows, the temperature must be lower then 0 centigrade, the snowflakes won't melt. What you need to do is shaking them down before getting into buildings.

I guess maybe some people do, but many of the coats are water repellant. If it is very cold the snow will not melt on the coat.

Look, this is why I didn't know before. Now I realize that the snow will not melt on the coat if it is very cold

I live in Canada where we get a lot of snow. I have never used an umbrella when it snowed because almost-frozen water is much drier than rain. I protect myself from the cold with a hat, scarf, gloves, jacket, and boots.

I've been to Korea for a business trip and we went there during the winter season. Nope, we didn't use an umbrella and it was OK. Still, for stronger winter seasons, the usage of an umbrella may be recommended. I guess, winter in Korea isn't really that harsh as compared to winter in the Western parts of the world.

I think that in the movies that have umbrella's whilst it's snowing it's just there for the "romantic" aspect or some sort of other aspect. I've never used an umbrella when it was snowing, atleast not that I can recall. I wear a tobagan (in Northern parts of the US a tobagan is a sled, but to us in the South of the US it's a knitted hat used in winter to keep head and ears warm). I also wear gloves and a heavy coat. Of course I try to avoid getting out in the snow if I can help it at all anyway.
