Philippines is the New Venice

Most of us know that Venice is well known for its Gondola cruises. Other web sites say it is like traveling by cab in New York's Central Park. This year, the Philippines has been visited by a lot of strong typhoons. Because of this a lot of areas have been flooded for several days now. Some newspapers are calling the Philippines the New Venice. I pray to God that the flood subsides and that people there recover from this devastation. I also pray that Filipinos start to realize that these are results of their lack of care for the environment. Filipinos should unite to make our country a better place to live.

It's a funny way of putting it, but still a sad thought. Especially, when I see footages on the news of affected places. Some houses have completely submerged, and just left the roofs above water level. It's really an alarming problem, and I agree that everyone has to do their part to minimize or hopefully eliminate this problem forever.

Too bad that we are depicted as Venice in a bad way. In Venice they are depicted as a romantic place while ours is depicted as a Tragic Venice. It was force on us to live in flooded waters and use our own styrofoam gondolas. I really wish we could have faster solution to this problem but it seems we have long ignored many issues about the environment the proper waste disposal. Now we are hampered with this problem in a way that is uncontrollable anymore.

I just read in GMA website about an interview with a geologist about Metro Manila condition at this time. The geologist admitted that Metro Manila is sinking by 1 cm per year. The reason why some areas in Manila that is flood free is being flooded already.

Tragic Venice…not exactly a great PR name or slogan for Manila but that’s the way it is really. Anyway, I think that the government should really work on this ‘sinking’ problem. If Venice sinks, at least, it has a good memory to live by. I don’t think we can apply that to Manila.

Philippines, is the new venice because of floods. Wow! This is a bad idea for the government to heard about. The reason is the urban planning that the local government didn't do more to ensure that the whole metro manila, will be free or maybe lessen by floods. Drainage, are all dissipated and not water will flow through to those drainage. The drainage must be wide enough to carry heavy water that flows into it. But when they repair and change those drainage. It's still a drainage that have small hole.

I am saddened by the news that some places that were flooded are still flooded until now. I just hope and pray that the government would really make a final solution to this flooding problem. But of course, all the people should do their share of help, by throwing their trash properly. And i also would like the Philippines, to be a plastic free country also.

oh my! i think in time of disraster its not really appropriate to call something like this - the new venice. in times of disaster we should all be working so hard to help each one.

You are right, it's not too late to start taking care of the environment. I guess one solution to that is to avoid using plastic, dispose of trash to proper places and the most important thing is we should be consistent in doing all of this. It wouldn't help the environment if we just do it for a day just for the sake of doing it. A continuous effort from each one us is vital in order to avoid such disaster if ever another heavy typhoons or calamities hit the country again.

The typhoons saw our government's promotion of "Visit Philippines", and "it's more fun in the Philippines". So, they decided, instead of going directly to Japan and China, they'll first visit Philippines!

We better solve our garbage problem fast and put to place an effective & comprehensive plan to battle flooding, it might not be Venice in the next century but Atlantis
