Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman, one of the classic test player India produced, announced his retirement yesterday. He said that he is retiring with immediate effect, without waiting to play in Test against NZ. The finest Test player of India had a career of 16 years. And he is the one who made us proud, specially against Australians. VVS was always special and harsh against Australian bowling.he have also performed well against all good test nations. His knock of 281 is always memorable and a history making knock for India. His 281(partnership with Dravid) helped India to win the match against Aussies from follow on.That is the real special knock of Laxman that every cricket fan will always cheer for. Although he have not excelled in ODI format he has been a valuable asset for Indian test team. Laxman had played 134 Test and scored 8781 runs with an average of 45.97 and this also include 17 centuries and 56 half centuries. Surely he has been an unmatchable classic test player of India. Great salute to the very Very Special Laxman...

...first Ganguly ...then Dravid and now Laxman.Sachin is in the line next.God save Indian Test Team without these FAB FOUR of Indian cricket.... ....of the four Laxman had the greatest style and his second innings average is much better compared to the other three...his flicks were breathtaking to watch and the grace with which he used to play was awesome... HATS OF TO ONE OF THE GREATEST SONS OF INDIAN CRICKET...cant imagine a classy player like him who can play cricket for India in the near future.. The timing of his retirement is surprising as he was selected for the NZ tour but you never know what transpires within the board , the captain and the men involved in running the BCCI...anyways wish him all the best in whatever he does

A big question mark is who is going to take the place of these FABULOUS FOUR? but its almost the same phase all the countries go through as one best example is that of Australia with McGrath , Warne , Hayden etc.. retiring almost in quick succession and the team is performing very badly without them...so it takes time for Indian Test Team to come to terms after the retirement of these FAB FOUR and I hope we get a good replacement

From the FAT FOUR Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman..three have announced retirement now Sachin is the only one left, hope that he will take the responsibility and guide the team. Surely this has made a huge gap in the strength of the team. but i think we have talented players waiting in the bench as far as batting is concerned. It is time for virat and poojara to grab this chance. If yuvi becomes fit he should also join the team from next test series. so I don't think Indian batting will face huge problem, if these guys perform.Only thing is that, to make the new team, it will take some time..Now youngsters should concentrate more on Test..

Yes one more retired from the FAT FOUR of Indian team..And Laxman also thanked God, saying that he was lucky to play in the team which Sachin, Ganguly and Dravid played.. Surely one more talented classic player of India have retired, now only sachin is left in the FAT FOUR. hope that the young team will mange the gap made by these great players.. And his wrist work is unmatchable in international cricket, no one int the world can do the flicks as Laxman does. And as you said he is also good in second innings, and that has also helped India many times. One excellent example is that 281.. No doubt that he was one of the greatest son of Indian cricket.. and hope that this is not a forced retirement..

yes, VVS is really a special person and he is deserved for our appreciation. ya the team will miss him a lot, and he had helped Indian team in numerous situation when India was down under. When the opposition start smelling the victory, Laxman's stand alone innings saved India many matches..In the recent past India became no:1 in test ranking,I think this player has also done a good part for India to have that position.

Two things come to me whenever I hear the name VVS Laxman. First is that dismal afternoon at Eden Gardens when all seemed lost for India and when Laxman walked into to take the stance, I had a foreboding here comes another pasting from Australia. That brooding turned into a slightly elated feeling the next day as there were hopes for India to save the match. That changed into an Euphoria the day after as Laxman went on change despair into his defining moment with the momentous 281 and along with Dravid chalked out the most unlikeliest of victories to put India on the roadmap towards no. 1 which we achieved after a decade of this event!! The second thing that comes to my mind is the fact that if there was any player that Aussies were ever afraid of then this was the one player. They literally were afraid of him, this guy just seemed to find something special whenever Australia came around be it a fighting 160 odd at sydney in a losing cause or the fabulous 281 in the turnaround at Eden Gardens. Aussies really hated the sight of this man and that was something that all of India simply loved. The soft spoken Hyderabadi simply turned to a devil when the Aussies were around. VVS thanks for the great cricketing moments that you have provided to us over the years. I have been lucky enough to see your entire international career starting with the debut fifty till your last match and I must say that I have loved every moment that I have seen you on the pitch. Of course, there have been frustrating moments when you threw your wicket away with the bowling at your mercy, but then there were sublime moments that only you could provide. All the best for your retirement. Cheers! Ram

ya he is a very very special cricketer India have produced. His innings of 281 and his batting against Aussies will be long remembered. Tennis Player Mahesh bupathi said that Australian bowlers will celebrate the retirement of VVS. former Australian player Nathan bracken tweeted that this is the independence day for Australian bowlers.. He was really a special man with his very special wrist shots. He has been their as a barrier for the opposition when they were smelling the victory. The classic touch of cricket was always visible on his shots, we will really miss this great talent..

VVS Laxman was one of the most reliable test cricket batsmen for India. We have seen a couple times that he rescue our team from the defeat by building up a partnership with the taolenders. I am sure that we will definitely miss a classic batsmen .

ya we have lost two good players in quick sessions.Youngsters will take some time to fill those huge gap. Now responsibility on sachin became more. And players like virat and poojara should grab this opportunity and perform well and should make us feel the absence of these great players.. Now the test is in India, so they will not face much difficulties in batting in Indian pitches, so they should make good start here to fill the absence of Dravid and Laxman.. And in today news and all i heard that Laxman's retirement was also a forced one.

Now we have consequently missed two classic batsmen, Rahul Dravid and now VVS Laxaman. But our youngsters are not much good with their test cricket batting. I am a little worried . Youngsters must concentrate on test cricket a little more .

Why not he had to as BCCI is not considering him now and even more he is not performing well in the matches too. So retiring is best option for great player like VVS just as what Dravid did when he was least performing. By the way they have lot of money from IPL, so no worry for them.

VVS is a great player, and in retirement also he have made it without waiting to play the match in his home town. he have done this with a good prospect for youngsters to get chance. He is the classic test player of India with good dedication and attitude. VVS is the player who performed When India was very much in need.He always deliver when India was down, his caliber and performance cannot be questioned at all.And surely he have announced his retirement at right time. And we should respect and than the great player for his contribution to Indian cricket.

Every player has contributed something. But when they play they are not recognized more than when they leave the team or game. Why

yes we don't understand the value of our eyes when it is there, we only experience when it is absent. In the same way, we really realize the value of player when he is retired..

Definitely, Indain cricket team has lost their one more jewel from the ir national cricket squad. Laxman is a kind of player which is very hard to find in any team. He is the real imploication of patience and style. It is hard for any bowler to bowl agianst him when he is in rythm because he will toos up any ball, even if it is a good one to the boundary, and that too all long through the ground himself. In my opinion there is no other player in world cricket who will play with his wrist so stylishly. Anyway, we will definitely miss his valuable knocks which used to help India to rise from any kind of crisis.

yes his wrist is so strong, and his wrist work is world famous. I dont think any one else can play such a strong wrist shots. And his class have saved India many time from difficult situation, he is a player who deliver when it was needed and as you said VVS in rhythm is tough for any bowler to bowl.

VVS Laxman has had a beautiful career in cricket. I salute him & I am sure India salutes him... I think he had the potential to play lots more cricket. But, I guess he made his decision. From what I understand there is a much deeper story to his retirement than the media is disclosing. I was reading the newspaper & the way they presented VVS was as if he was looking forward to play one more season of test cricket. Any ideas what it might be or what it is?? I will not be surprised if there is a deeper story to it... :)

well i have not heard any story behind his retirement, i don't think that he has taken this decision due to some external forces. It might be his decision itself. No doubt in his caliber or talent, A classic player like VVS will not be available for every team.We was lucky to have a player like VVS Laxman.
