I don't know what kind of music everyone is into here, but me personally, I listen to hip-hop, r&b, and soul. But hip-hop music now is not what it used to be. I grew up on Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Biggie, Slick Rick, Big L, KRS-1, Run-DMC, Jay-Z, Nas...the greats....some of the r&b today is OK I guess, but a lot of it sounds more like pop music to me. They don't make them like The Isley Brothers and Marvin Gaye anymore. Anyways, I find myself more into the underground scene...or un-signed artists for those who don't know what underground is. I love the local scene, I love going to see the local artists live. To me, they are the ones that have the real talent. The new artists that get signed now seems to involve too much politics or they know someone who knows someone who knows someone. I can't remember the last time that I turned on the radio and actually listened to any of the garbage on hear the play now. What made me even to think to ask this was because I was going through my playlist and all I have is oldschool music and local music. Am I the only one?? There's got to be someone out here who agrees with me...I mean, 2Chainz? Really??? Lol...(the true hip-hop heads will know what I mean)

I usually listen to quality (mostly vocal, not auto-tuned) pop, rock and alternative. There are some songs from the international charts like Billboard every now and then which I love (for example Gotye's Somebody that I used to know now), but otherwise, I find them all the same, cliché, wannabe... and like a big colorful balloon... bright and colorful on the outside, but nothing inside. I seriously don't understand the obsession with "artists" like Pitbull and the likes. No originality, shallow lyrics. As much as I'm not that into old school hip-hop, but at least they had a message and they wrote their own music.

I completely agree. A lot of it is all starting to sound the same. And not just hip-hop, I used that as a reference because it's what I listen to and know the most about. But anytime I turn on the radio or the TV I can never differentiate between who's who and what's what? The lyrics nowadays are very shallow and simple. A four year old could write what these fools are writing now!! =)

I reallydespise mainstream music at the minute, and the reason has nothing to do with the music being mainstream its just that the charts are filled with dance and R&B all the time and I cant stand it, I like rock music :)

I understand. I hate it too, although the reason I hate it is because I feel like the artists who are out now are completely irrelevant! Lol =)

I have my own set of musics I listen to... I tend to listen to punks, heavy metals & few other industrial type musics... I've never really cared for mainstream music anyway...
