The politicians here are sucking us; the honest tax payers; to remain in power they can do anything for that, they give rice at 2 rupees per kg, free home, free electricity. Recently government declared ‘free cell phone with SIM and free talk time to the ‘so called poor’ (BPL-Below Poverty Line). I guess next step may be FREE LAPTOP to get vote from them!!! See this man on the tree using a laptop probably given by a political leader, minister!!!! I really wonder where the end to this is. Are they not sucking us slowly? Anything similar at your place? Please comment on this and share your views. Thanks in advance. Prof. Bhuwan September 04 2012.

These are politician's promise who cares to complete those, in my state they have promised to give 100 yards plots to women who is under BPL. They have printed on the forms that plots will be allotted only if the party wins. We the people of India does have a small memory and people tend to forgive/forgot these politician's for any intense harmful activity to the society.

Wow! I should go there instead. Here it's more of a free grocery items. That's the most a politician would do to get people's vote other than money which is just a little over than $10. So you see, we come cheap, but you there are way expensive. Getting cellphones and who knows, laptop might come soon. So i better move there and change my citizenship before they start giving away laptops!

I guess politicians are the same everywhere. They do anything to get votes . Our general election is anytime now. The present ruling government suddenly become overly generous. Every students are given laptops, taxi drivers get free tyres but the sweetest gift is getting rm500 to poor income people . Everyone claimed to be poor to get this free money. I've heard that they are going to distribute another round of cash before they dissolve the government. Anything free is most welcome.

So, my country isn't the only one! Here in the U.S. nearly 50% of our citizens are on some kind of government assistance and poor people can get free cell phones with, I think, 200 minutes per month free. 47% of our people don't pay any income taxes and about that same number are on food stamps, which is free food allowance from the government--or more exactly, me and the other taxpayers. They get help with rent, electricity and other things. We have families that have been on assistance for generations, it's a way of life with them, but there are very few programs that try to get them free of that cycle of poverty. The government encourages them to stay poor by giving them all kinds of assistance--the more children you have the more money you get unless you are married or a man is living with you and that encourages fathers to abandon their children. It's more complicated but that's it in nutshell. The politicians keep promising more and more to those who don't or can't work but vote. We can't keep this up. The working people will either be taxed so much that they are living in hovels or the system will collapse soon--which is what a lot of people seem to want.

Wow! Is that how desperate the politicians in your country are? I wonder if they are doing the same in my country? I had been away for a few years now. Aren't tehy ashame to really use these as bribes just to get a vote? Oh my. Of course I am not into this ... though after reading I really wanted to go there. Imagien .. free laptop??? Is it Apple laptops? What about the other good politicians there, don't they do something so people won't fall into these trap? I hope someone should stand up and fight against these corruption. In my country, there are corrupts but I am aware that they doing something about. It takes time but at least somebody started it.

Professor bhaiya: happy to see you active after so many days. But sir you are putting too many discussions on one day itself. instead if you can put two or three per day it will be good. I have not heard about cell phones being given free by government. they will give free because people have to pay for using it. may be the companies are distributing them free through government. In tamil nadu laptops are given for college and +2 students. that is a good one.

Dear Professor, Some people may be kept under temptation at all times, not all at any time. The corrupted politicians will go away soon. One thing is good in it, as I see, some (may be very less)of the real 'have nots' are getting the partial taste of becoming citizens of an independent country. What do you feel?

Hello Professor. Here in our country we can get free cell phones on the condition that we pay certain amount of calling fee in advance. The calling fee we pay will come back to us month by month. This way we do get a free cell phone offered by the communication companies. I love this kind of service and I got a smart cell phone a week ago, which is working well. This kind of service we have has nothing to do with the politicians. It is only one of the operations by the companies. Take care. Professor.

Yes, they don't play fair. They always try to buy our votes. If they are confident enough, they should wait for people to vote for them not bribe them. Happy mylotting.

The free cell phones for people that are poor seems to be something that is sweeping the world by storm. I know that there are a lot of people around here that get free cellular phones with a limited amount of minutes per month. My husband's aunt has several of these phones and will use one until all of the minutes are used for the month and then she will move on to the next phone. Then another person that I know has one of these so-call "Food Stamp" phones and he just adds extra time to his so that he will be able to use it all the time.

Yes,In India all these will happen. giving money directly for voting is crime, so just offer commodity instead if the rules in India allowed to give voters money directly, then would have got more money for our votes. It will be good if we are able to keep our votes for Auction, that would have been better. here they offer rice for one rupee.. for BPL. And recently, I have also heard that mobile phones is to be given for BPL by central government.. Is mobile phone the most essential one for daily living, there are many poor people in India, who don't even get drinking for their living, will the mobile phone serve the need of drinking water, food or shelter?? The political parties want to buy the votes, so they offer these things. In Tamil Nadu television was given by Karunanidi and now laptop is given by jayalalitha for college students. The government pass many bills favoring some category when they reach near the election. they give many indirect offer but eventually like offering cash. These all show the pathetic condition of Indian constitution..

helo professor, there is no such thing (that i know of) here in our country. but probably there are behind our backs. surely cheap tactics like that would be very amazing to the poor. anyways, if it was me, i will get the laptop. but would still vote for the one that i find suitable for the position. surely someone that i think is not corrupt. have a nice day. ann

i personally think that it is democracy that sucks.politicians in every democratic countries are acting like this.in the recent budget the government of our country has reduced the rates of cars!!! where as the poverty is ariund 70%.people capable of buying a car could by it too and the discounted money would spend on walfare purposes.but not.
