I was babysitting my 5 year old granddaughter "Lucy" last week. I usually let her decide what we are going to do for the time she's over. There are so many toys here for her I never know what to pull out. She decided she'd like to play with some Play Dough again like we did the week before. I started creating some Halloween characters and she decided to follow along. She made a yellow ghost (we were out of white) with some big black eyes and 2 wood stick arms. Then she made a spooky finger puppet, even though it's pink, lol! She made other things but I kept the Halloween items on my front table in the living room. She liked that idea. I ended up making a little purple and green monster guy with a hat on, a purple owl with a yellow beak, a witch hat with a green eyed mouse on the rim, and 3 pumpkins. We had our fun and she couldn't wait to show her Mom when she came to pick her up. You can make so many things out of it. I just bought some air dry clay so we can do more fun stuff for the holidays coming up. There's a photo I took of the Halloween items if you'd like to see...it's the best I could do with my old digital camera. Hope the photo comes up.... Do your kids just love Play Dough? Or do they prefer Clay?

I have other way of playing with kids :) I have little sister and she's just 1 year old :) I play with her by playing musics and she will dance by herself hahaha *funny* or by singing and she will follow my song by singing "aaaaahhh~ aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh~" hahahaha *sweet* I remember just this Monday she was sleeping. We played a dance song "Super Bass" and she woke up and then smiled at us. She became awake hahahaha!! so cute ;)

Your little sister sounds really cute. She's just a bit too little to play with Play Dough but maybe she will when she's a bit older. Kids are really funny when they're 1 year old and are learning all sorts of new things. Have fun with her!

My granddaughter loves both. She makes whole scenes out of clay...but uses her play dough for the different molding things I have for her. The most recent I found was a head where you make all the teeth...she thinks this one rocks...I do have the cake making one and the ice cream shop. I find them at the used a bit stores..cheap.

We haven't tried the clay yet but it should be interesting, haha. I'll have to look for the other items but I only have so much room here in my tiny apartment. She has a huge dollhouse with a ton of furniture and people, etc. It takes up a lot of room and I'm always moving it around trying to find a suitable spot for it, haha. The head sounds hysterical, I'll have to look for that one. I'm sure she'll get a kick out of it as she likes unusual stuff too. Then of course I also have all the coloring books, paints, and more. I'm sure I can find a spot for the head, haha!

I love creative clays of all sorts. I am still making some beads. I saw a bracelet on a woman at Pizza Hut that I just loved and I am going to to try to do similar. I have also hand formed some flowers but what I really would like to do is weave a basket and put holiday decor on it. I have some maple leaf cookie cutters in three sizes. You do so many great things just playing with the granddaughter and letting her have the experience of creating things. I am considering adding some essential oils to my clay to see about making fragrant beads. I have all kinds of craft recipes. Next time I visit my grands I will have to make a point of playing play dough.

I hope you put some pictures up of the beads so we can see them. I haven't played with clay for a really long time so I'm looking forward to it. Sometimes we forget how much fun certain things can be until we do them again. The basket sounds really adorable and especially for the holidays. Adding the oils sounds fantasic and that's a new one to me. How different that would be and you might have a great winner there! Lucy is becoming quite creative and I just love it. She makes me want to do more items too which is super cool. Both my daughters are extremely creative which I love and we all have sold many items. So much fun!

Yes, they are very precious! We just had so much fun doing this and I love watching her create, just the expressions on her face make me laugh. Her concentration is just intense, haha. I've done crafts for many years so I have lots of stuff for her to play with. Both are daughters are extremely creative so this works out really good all the way around. We've all sold many items too.

I have never been crafty & really admire people that are. That may be why my grandson wasn't interested in play dough, his bobo couldn't make anything recognizable, lol.

Yes, it is fun to play with Play Dough. I forgot how much fun it was until I did this with Lucy. I just bought some clay and we're going to try that next. Should be intersting and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Yes, as a child, I did play with play dough. I think that was during the time I also played with an etch-a-sketch toy and lego blocks. Those days seemed so much simpler than right now; I miss being at the age where I was so carefree and not have to be worrying about my future.

You sure are right...life was much simpler years ago. My kids played with the etch-a-sketch too and lego's. Both toys are still around today and sell very well. I think just about everyone played with Play Dough at one time or another.

I loved playing with this as a kid! What a great, creative toy that lets kids use their imagination. My mom and I used to make our own, you can make very easily at home with common ingredients like flour, salt, food coloring. It was so much fun. Sounds like you have a very creative granddaughter!

I think all kids love Play Dough, and yes, it does help create imagination. Lucy is very creative and I hope she will be like this all her life. Doing arts and crafts also helps to keep our troubles at bay and gives us something else to think about instead of all our problems. It is a lot of fun!
