E-book readers are simply great inventions

I used to have a grudge towards them as I thought that it was better to read a real book rather than use a e-reader. But then we bought one and I started using it too. And I must say it is a great idea. Now I got one for my birthday and can't wait to start using it. I will use it more in winter as I like to snuggle up in bed and read. I just bought a cover for it too Do any of you use it? What do you think about it?

No I don't use an e-reader. I prefer the actual book. It can't break if it falls. But mostly because I spend enough time on the computer. Who needs another screen to stare at. A lot of times I take note in the margins, can't do that on an e-reader. Plus a regular paperback will fit in my purse, I would need a lot bigger bag to carry around an e-reader. The small ones I have trouble reading and the bigger ones are just too cumbersome for me.

An e-reader is the size of a book. Check out kindle sizes. You can adjust the font sizes so as to make it better for your eyes. Plus kindle is not an e-reader which features a bright screen. You need to see one for yourself before commenting. You will most probably realize that you had a few misconceptions.

Even though you saw it you still judged them wrongly though and the way you commented was about them being large and about their screen - that is not with regards to what is or is not good for you but with regards to their specifications per se. I wonder how you can you say that they are large when there are very slim 7inch screen ones and small models. And I never said that everyone should have my opinion. I onyl pointed out that their size is small and can fit most handbags and the screen is not sharp at all. Plus you get to choose brightness, font sizes, page sizes.

I have been to Best Buy and Barnes and Nobel and had the salespeople show me all different sizes and how they work. Kindle was one of the brands we also looked at. Should have asked if we checked them out before making a misconception yourself. I didn't comment without knowing that they weren't good for me, still prefer the printed book. It is what is best for me, I never said it wasn't what is best for others.

I prefer traditional books where I can get the real pleasure and experience of pages, story, and curling up on the couch. Too many inventions and gadgets to learn. Nothing will surpass a nice fat book of fiction. Writer's heaven!

I can still curl up on the couch or in the bed and read. I find it better actually because in winter I can cover myself with the blanket and simply press a button to turn the pages besides it is very simple to use, there is nothing complicated about an e-reader.

Charging is no problem. Just as I do with my mobile phone as soon as I notice the battery is low I just think ahead and charge it. It automatically saves where you stopped reading just like a bookmarking system.

I am sure e-books are fun; they are just not for me. I like the tactile feel of pages and the friendliness of a book; no technology. But you enjoy... everyone has a choice.

I have an ereader. I think it's simply amazing. It is great for plane trips, long waits, and lightening your load when traveling. I have to consider all the ways to download books now that I have one. Some ereaders are more popular than others, but as long as one has an ereader, one must understand the most effective way to use it.

Yes it is extremely convenient to carry around. It made me love books even more because now I have an even wider variety and can afford to read some books which used to be a bit pricey.

Good one well, there are audio cd's for some books. I had listened to one, the Harry Potter 1. I just listened to part of the 1 st chapter. The reader was really good and it was engrossing. Maybe you could check those out.

I agree I have a kindle and I love it. My mom gave me hers when she got her kindle fire.I was like you at first and thought it would be better to have a paper book but now I think different since getting my kindle. Now to find more sites that carry free books for it and I will be set.

I use my Ipad to download free materials and read them anywhere at anytime I want. This is the biggest advantage of tablet in general and ebook reader in particular. I prefer a tablet to ebook reader because it has more multimedia features

Yes that isa good idea too. However some people prefer less features so they would opt for an e-reader. If I could afford an ipad I would do like you

When hard copies of books are difficult to come by, ebook is the right option. E-readers like the ones made by Sony are ideal as they are meant only for reading books. E-readers with multimedia support distract us from reading. Have a nice read all the time.

I don't yet own an e-book reader, but I have to admit that it is something that I would really like to have. Now, I don't think that I will ever reach a point in my life that my use of traditional books will be something that I never do. However, I think that it would be great to be able to have the instant gratification of buying a book and being able to read it immediately as opposed to having to wait for a book to be shipped or get home with the book that I had just purchased.

I preordered the new Kindle Fire HD for my daughter - it will be here Friday next week and she can't wait! I am amazed at all it offers - and it has gotten great reviews - for 199.99 compared to two and a half times that for an ipad.

Yes they are quite affordable in relation to other gadgets and very convenient. The ipad is too expensive in my opinion. If only these gadgets were less costly I would buy them all!

Hi friend, you are right, really ereaders are an advancement of technology and we are not in need to carry a huge book while traveling, simply we carry our ereader and read the ebooks as per our wish, i too have my ereader and download some ebooks in it to read while traveling.

I have the kindle app in my iPad and I like it so much; but my love for actual physical books is still there. What I cannot have physically I just make sure to have electronically, and vice versa. Whenever I'm travelling, I can't help but be thankful to my reader. I'm trying to travel light from now on and even if I love them, I have to admit that books can be quite burdensome and heavy.

Yes I agree with you. An e-book reader is lightweight and it is very convenient when travelling. If I have a 'paper' book I would still read it but I love the e-reader because it is convenient and often cheaper. I admit I cannot buy books regularly especially when they are quite expensive.

No offense but E-books can give me a headache. Because the illumination of the screen while reading for hours can irritate my eyes. So I prefer reading traditional books. And also, you not have problems in reading for long hours. :)

That is what I thought. Some do have a bright screen but there is the optin to lower the brightness or even make the font bigger. Then I suggest you check out one of the kindle models which has a really faint screen practically like paper. It is not bright at all and there is not backlight. In fact I have to switch on the light to read just as I would do with a normal book.
