Pizza consists of bread, cheese and tomato sauce (which seems relatively healthy in moderation) but pizza tends to get labeled as fast food which usually means junk food.

Yes and no. It depends how the pizza made. Yes it is junk food if: - The crust is whole grain. Whole grain loses fiber, vitamins, and minerals when it's in the refining processes. - If you add too much cheese on it. Especially if you eat a lot of cheese during the week. Cheese haves fat and the more cheese you put, the more fat you add. - The toppings are only meat. If you put lots of meat like sausage, pepperoni, steak, etc. Meat haves a lot of fat and salt, which isn't good for you. No it is junk food it: - The crust is whole wheat. Whole wheat will never lose fiber, vitamins, and minerals. - Less cheese is more healthier than lots of cheese. It does give us calcium and protein. It does have fat, but our bodies do need a bit of fat. You just have to control how much cheese you want. - Sauce is basically tomatoes, which is a good source of antioxidants. - The toppings are veggies only like green and red peppers, onions, broccoli, and olives are less in fat and healthier. It basically comes down if you want your pizza to be junk food or not. You have to decide how you want your pizza made as.

I think pizza originally used to be health food. It is made up of flour, olive oil, tomato paste and cheese, which are all perfectly health. However, it has evolved to include all forbidden (but delicious) ingredients, like bacon, pepperoni, ham, etc. That may be why it got labeled as junk. But I have tasted healthy pizzas and they are good. I think it is all in the preparation. You can choose your pizza to be healthy if you want to.

Thanks for your reply. I guess red meat will definitely make it less healthy. I agree it does depend on how it is made.

In my view, no matter how other people labels pizza as junk food, it is still one of the best invention and evolution of food there is. I could finish one family size in one sitting. Anyway, you can always choose which toppings you'd prefer.
