I'm unique because

In light of the homework assignment that Kathryn brought home from school yesterday, I got to thinking about ourselves. Yes, I discovered upon reflection when working through her assignment with her that I can say something nice about everyone that I've ever encountered in my life (be it positive or negative relationships). Of course in her assignment she also had to give a compliment to herself. This was the one that she struggled with the most. So, I got to wondering, if you had to say something that was special about yourself or you had to give yourself a compliment, what would it be? For me, I would have to say that I'm a good friend because I am always willing to be there for my friends and acquaintances to offer them a shoulder to lean on and I will offer them the advice that they are seeking. I have no problem at all with listening to other people and giving them my full attention.

For me, the compliment that I could give to myself is that I have helped my family a lot in times of need. I had been a good student and graduated with flying colours and didn't give my parents a lot of headaches.

That is a great compliment to give yourself. I've been like you in helping my family in times of need as well.

If there is one thing i love about myself... I dont usually do "first impression or judgement" if i haven't known them. I always give it a chance and whenever the stories about that person was proven true, i always give it a benefit of a doubt. And another, i can determine if a person specially close to me is okey or not. I dont know, i can say it just by their moves, looks, their eyes and a lot more. Thats it! :) i love myself being me..

Like you I don't tend to be one of those people that will pass a snap judgement on a person. I really do like to take the opportunity to get to know someone before I make a character judgement on them.

hi dorannmwin I am unique because there is only one of me and I am also a good friend because I will always be there for my best friends and will always be a good listener as she has been for me too,We have been best friends for 20 some years and we seem to compliment each other and our sons are also friends My son Robioe and Michael and our other longtime friend Mike David. I like that I learned from my son to be a really good listener .before I tried to multitask while listening and that does not work at all. also myhusband and me were always best friends. I still miss him though I have been widowed for many years.

You know, I don't think that a person is really ever able to get over the loss of their spouse. My mother has been widowed for seventeen years now and it is clear to me that she has never been able to get over the loss of my father.

I think that I`m strong in times of need so that I can support my people. I also think that I`m a good friend, but I`m no sure if that is because I have been blessed with very good friends.

I think that the reason that you've got good friends is because of the fact that you are a good friend and not the other way around.

Each of us is unique in every sense. We have different traits and characters. I don't know if my friends find me good or nice. But deep inside me, I'm sensitive and easily get hurt. I valued friendship so much however, I only have few friends. I don't know if people really like me.

You know what, I think that most people are only lucky enough to have a handful of true friends in their lives. I think that those people that seem to be really popular are actually very unlucky people because they never really have the opportunity to develop those true friendships.

hi dear dorannmwin, if I had to give a compliment to myself I would say I am good in budgeting money, love to cook from scratch and love writing out dated old fashioned snail mail letters.

It is great that you are good at budgeting. For me, I find that to be struggle that I am working on improving each and every day of my life. I hope that one day I will be so good at it that I won't have to worry at all, but right now I'm just not there yet.

Well, in that case, you should definitely consider yourself to be very lucky that budgeting was something that your mother taught you. I think that there are far too many people that are never taught to budget. I honestly think that the fact that so many people are not taught to budget is a large part of the reason that the world economic state is such as it is today.

Thats not my own merit but one of the few real useful things my mother taught me from an early age, saying you should never spend all the money you have but put some away for rainy days. I studied from 19 to 22 in another city to get a diploma as a librarian and lived in a students boarding house. From what my father had to pay me, there was rent, healthcare, student fees for the University of applied science going off anyways then of course food and one visit home each month for a weekend. I was one of the few who still had money at the end of the month so what my mother taught me had paid off. I even saved up a bit when studying.

I wish I had homework like this (in a sense by you discussing your daughter's homework, we've learned lessons from it too!). This one is a bit of a toughy for me. My answer to "I'm unique because . . . " would be different, I think, from a compliment to myself. I say this only because what makes me unique may not necessarily be a positive answer . So I'll try to think up the one to compliment myself. Ok, I'd have to say - in person, I believe I can make people feel "special". It's very easy for me to meet and make friends - and often people are trusting of me off the bat.

Well, the reason that I chose to use the term unique was because of the fact that with the assignment the teacher said that they are not allowed to use generic answers for anyone. I really like the fact that you said that it is easy for you to meet and make friends. This is honestly something that I've struggled with throughout my life.

I'd like to think I'm a hardworker. That even though I may be calm and confident on the outside, my mind is always running a hundred miles a minute. And trying to come up with a way to better myself, or better my family's situation. Sometimes I view it as a 'sickness' because I couldn't just go and relax, but it's just the way I am.

The way that your mind operates sounds a lot like the way that my mind operates. My mind is constantly going wild trying to think of what I will be able to do that will help to better my family's situation. We've been struggling so much lately and I just want to be able to not struggle for a little while.

What a great homework assignment! Curious, what class and grade was the assignment for your daughter? I so agree with you that I can think of a compliment for nearly every person I have known in my life, even the worst of the lot. Complimenting myself is a bit more difficult! I think one of my greatest assets is my ability to love someone just the way they are. I can take the bad with the good when I love someone. I guess it's because when I love, I love deeply. However, when the bad outweighs the good, I also have no issue with saying goodbye to that love.

My Kathryn is nine years old and she is in the fourth grade now. That is really a large part of the reason that this assignment blew my mind. I agree with you that coming up with a compliment about myself is one of the hardest things that I can do. However, I do feel that in many ways I'm very much like you in being able to love a person for whom they are.

I had a relationship when I was younger which my parents didn't know about. My boyfriend is a good person. Only thing is, he was adopted and maltreated by his adopted mother. When we went to College, we still continued our relationship. Just a few months into that, I learned that he was forced to leave their home and was no longer allowed to come to school. He did not know where to go. But luckily, he had friends who took turns in giving him a place to stay in their homes. But those were temporary. I had to do something to help him. Instead of spending my allowance, I had to give it to him so that he could afford to pay the rent from where he stayed and also so he can have food to eat. It was difficult to find a job that time. It took me about 2 years of helping him out.

You really are a very giving person. Right now I'm helping out my best friend because she didn't have anywhere to go. She is in jail right now serving out time from a mistake that she made three years ago, but she knows that she has a home to come home to and she also knows that her three children are welcome here as well. In fact, when this first happened with the probation violation, I actually took temporary custody of her children to make sure that they were safe.

i'm unique because i will tell the truth even if my loved ones get hurt. honesty is always the best policy though i have to say there are cases where it is not applicable. but given the chance to be honest, even if it can hurt, i think i love more if i am honest to tell what i feel.

When it comes to the really important things, there is no way that I would ever lie to a person. However, when it comes to the smaller things, there are times that I have told someone a white lie to protect their feelings.

That really is a great quality to have. However, I also think that there are times that it is difficult to have this quality because of the the fact that we run the risk of really hurting someone's feelings because of the fact that we are completely blunt and honest.

for me if I have to compliment myself, i would say that I have a pure heart and I don not think of bad for anyone and I am very hospitable. there came two boys at my home from another state and me and my husband had never met them before. They were some friend's friends so we welcomed them in our home and I made dinner for them and the boys enjoyed the dinner and the sitting with me and my husband. They said this was their best time in Goa. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

For me, I think I am unique because I am very humble and enjoy various genres of literature. Some people may even consider me to be too humble at times. Among my friends, I am considered weird because I enjoy reading books. To them, reading magazines is considered more acceptable than reading novels. Despite some of my traits not exactly are favored by my friends, I prefer being different because it's more interesting. If everyone had the same traits, the world would be a very dull place to live in.

I think being unique does not only mean mentioning our good attributes. It can also be a combination of good and bad. I'm a loving sister but I also have my share of fights with my siblings. I'm always there for my friends but I also have my moods that make me hide when I'm not in the mood to mingle. I'm a devoted worker but at times I feel stubborn and would not submit right away. I had been a loyal lover but I had my share of jealous streaks, which brought out the worst in me. It's these mixtures that make one unique. No one is made exactly the same, I truly believe in this.

You are very right that some of our negative attributes are a very important part of the fact that we are different from everyone else. The reason that I chose to highlight the positive things about ourselves is because of the fact that the original homework assignment from which I gleaned this discussion topic was about giving people compliments no matter how you really feel about them.
