I'm only 40 but I'm already a grandma with the little boy in my avatar. He is only 1 year and half and he is already start to talk a bit of little words and letters. His mom called me yesterday and she told me that my grandson wants to talk to me on the phone. He called me Momsie that's what I told to my daughter that I want to be called. Most of my friends got shocked when they knew that I'm already a grandma and they told me that I'm very young to be called a grandma or (lola) in my language. What about you? If ever to be a grandma that don't want to feel old what name you want to call by your grandchildren? And to those who are already a grandma like me what does your grandchildren called you?

Oh ho... My mom is also 40 when I gave birth to my daughter (the first grandchild) Now she's 57 with 9 grandchildren and no one calls her grandma..but we all called her mommie... We use to call her "mama"- but for the little tykes to call our mom "mommie" we need to call her that way to the little tykes will imitate us I guess it's the trend now...grandmother's becomes mommies...regardless of age

But you know the funny side of it? My mom always introduce her grandchildren her nieces and nephews and when someone said..."I thought they are your grandkids" My mom is too alert to reply with "No, they are my husband's grandkids"

I am Grandma Heather and my hubby is Grandpa Bob. In fact, for the three year old, any older adult male is a grandpa Bob. So her daddy's dad is Grandpa Bob Gary. She was going to play with a friend and asked if her Grandpa Bob was at home. I do not feel old, so it does not matter what they call me.

I'm a traditionalist and would want to be called Grandma, if only for the shock on peoples' faces if I was as young as you are. I'm 58 and I know women my age who still don't want the Grandma title because it makes them feel old but I say so what? When you're old, you're old and should enjoy that part of your life. No sense denying it, right? I sometimes don't know if someone is a grandmother because of all the different names but I guess that's the point. I hope to be a grandma eventually but had children late, they will be only 24 and 25 later this month and the youngest's GF recently miscarried their first child, my grandchild, at 5 months. I hope I get another chance to be called Grandma. Your grandson is adorable, I wondered who that was. I hope he is blessed with good health and love.

I am married to an older man, so at the age of 30, a lot of kids are already calling me Grandma, and they are old enough to read, write, and do other childhood things. :) I don't feel "old" and neither does he, just mature. There is a difference. Mature means we are aged enough to have the freedom of adults, and the more mature we come, the more experience we've earned. Enjoy being called Grandma, because you've earned it!

Your discussion is very amusing. I am 37 years old and my son is just 8 year old:) I think it will take me a long time to be a grandma. Perhaps at that time I am old enough to be called like that:) If I were in your situation, I preferred to be call younger since you are really young:) How about your grandson just calls your name?:) I love China

thanks youless, here in my country we are not practice to called our elders on their names only, we normally called them with respect on their proper title. ie for aunt, uncle, the older sister or brother (ate, kuya) we also used it for older cousins.

I'm shocked too. That's a little too young to become a grandma. I haven't thought about being a grandma yet and about what my grandkids will call me since I'[m still too young either to think about that.

I can sympathize, but for the children's sake, I think probably I would let them call me "Grams" or whatever. If they are an integral part of your life, it would be awkward to deny the relationship, especially when you lovem them

My father mother used to be like that she used to make all of her grand children call her auntie instead . Now she is 70 she is ok with us calling her grandma and now she also a great grand mother . I do think 40 is young but people have children young so its likely that they may become grand parents young also .

Lyn, you still look young to me, my friend. Firstly, congratulate to you for being a "Grandma" at such a young age. I am around your age and still a mother. In fact, there are a few ladies around my age, who had become a grandma, too. It is because they got married at a very young age. By the way, you got married at what age, my friend? Do take care always...

Oh my! We are of the same age but I do not have any grandchild yet (am hoping not too soon! ) Are we really on that stage of being a grandma? Coz I don;t feel that old. hahaha! I still wear shorts and mini skirts! Anyway, if ever I will have grandchildren, I think I would like them to call me as Mama Jen.

Thanks for sharing, i am not surprised, many in your country marry at early age like us in india, so at 40 they become grand mother, i have on line friends in Davao/Cebu/Manila.. We chat in YM over phone, their kids call me lOLO and my wife as LOLA. Here maternal grand mother is known as Nani and paternal grand mother as Dadi.
