JOGGING ON THE SPOT! And I don't mean horizontal jogging either lol. I've just had a go at it (jogging, not the horizontal kind) and I reckon I could be brilliant at it, especially if it's cold in the kitchen whilst I'm brewing up - like now. Not exactly Mo Farah but a couple of minutes is better than..er..nothing! What do you think?

I have heard of routines like this actually. While waiting on something, DO something. In your case, jogging. In my case that would shake the whole house. I did used to use a step stool and do step up exercises while waiting on the microwave. Even two minutes is better than nothing. Especially if you do it more than once a day.

The house is old, and it shakes no matter who or what happens in it. I always SAY I will go up and down stairs, but then I don't.

Hey it is something. Awhile back maybe a couple years ago I did something similar. We have the Wii and a wii sports game. Well any of those games I was playing I would also jog in place while swinging around the remote. It was actually kind of tiring! Especially for like... the boxing one, which you have to be pretty active with the punches and stuff. So I say its a good idea, keep it up and maybe try to go for walks too during the day, any little bit will help more than none.

Years ago I used to have one of those steps. I think Cher would bring out videos and mugs like me used to try to follow what she was doing. I failed miserably and ended up giving it to a friend of mine..plus the videos of course!

I wonder about those tapes ! You know its corriagraphered and done probably however number of times needed to make it look that perfect! then here we are the fools trying to copy that one thing, no wonder it is a work out, just trying to keep up! I wonder if they might have hidden cameras so they can watch as we trip over ourselves...

It's just been a few days, but I've started exercising at home too. Not anything tough, just the regular push ups and sit ups. It's not really that physically stressful, but I also thought that it's better than nothing. I did try and float the idea at work about getting a stationary bike for the office. My boss didn't go fo it.

I got rid of my road bike and I haven't got room for a stationary bike, unfortunately. Nice idea though!

As for keeping fit or doing exercise, there is no need for us to stick to one pattern. We may well do what is suitable to us.I walk at a quick pace for half an hour on Monday,Wednesday,Friday each week apart from practicing some martial art actions , have a cold bath and take less supper every day.I have lost my weight from 92 Km to 82 km now.

Oh my, martial art actions! How wonderful that must be. Not so much the cold baths though..unless it's very hot there at the moment?

Absolutely, keep at it. Being active during the day even if it's in small increments of time, is really good for you. No, it's nothing like an olympic run or even a normal run but it's a start and it doesn't hurt. Well, it doesn't as long as you're not doing it while cooking in the kitchen ;)

Haha! Yes, I know what you mean. I can't start messing about with pots and pans full of water, etc whilst jogging..now, that would be stupid lol.

You should try the Wii fit then you can keep active while having fun. You will be motivated to keep going for longer.

Hello there! Unfortunately, we cannot afford a Wii Fit although the concept intrigues me somewhat.

Great way to get the blood flowing and warm yourself up without cranking up the heating.

Very true! Especially with our heating as once it's on, it's on. No way of turning the cental heating down as it's old and cannot be..er..turned down lol. We do have a gas fire but that packed in years ago. I'd love an energy-efficient one that can be on very low and warm this room up in no time. Currently, they cost about £500-£600 each.

Horizontal jogging? Janey, use that Spontex sponge on that dirty mind of yours. Why not pot into a sports shop and get a skipping rope or a hula hoop? That's a cheap, portable fitness solution, and you can do it whenever you have a minute or two. Also, when you're sitting down watching TV, hold a tin of baked beans or something similar in each hand and do some bicep curls to work your arms and upper body. You don't have to spend a fortune on gym membership or exercise equipment to get fit - it's just an excuse people use.

I've got a few tins of beans doing nothing in the fridge lol. As for the skipping rope/hula hoop idea (which is brilliant by the way), unfortunately, we haven't got room to swing our cat so I can't have either. Outside is no different. I shall hoover everywhere with my Dyson DC04 tomorrow as it's one of the heavier models. It has all the tools onboard. Mind you, it's never been the same since the MIL decided to take it to bits and wash the filters a while ago. Why didn't she go to B&Q down the road to buy me new ones if she was that concerned? Stupid woman!

That is actually a really good idea. It not only warms you up if you are cold, but it also gets the blood flowing, which helps circulation. It speeds up the heart rate and can help to boost metabolism, especially if you do it at various intervals throughout the day. You do not need to do it all at once, and it actually is beneficial if you do not do it all at once, although you should do some sort of cardio exercise like walking for at least thirty minutes at a time. Still, if that is not possible, then this is definitely a good start.

Definitely its better than doing nothing at all. What I do is I pace around our living room then to the kitchen and back while I'm doing my laundry. While it runs for 15 minutes I pace non-stop back and forth until I'm almost out of breath. Our place isn't safe for walking in early mornings and a lot of vehicles pass by so its best for me to just do it inside our home and I'm losing weight even with this small and easy exercise.

Yes, I made 3 trips up and down the stairs this afternoon where one would've been sufficient. Every little helps!

yes, get your heart rate up however you can. we jog on the spot in kickboxing. you can push yourself too lift your knees higher, kick your legs back hitting your bum and also just go faster for the last 20 seconds or so.
