Or do you think they set some people off and cause them to offer the person anyway?

i dont think they work, because a piece of paper is not going to stop someone from doing harm to you.

No i do not think they work. because even though they aren't suposed to be around you or bother you by law..well to some law doesn't matter to them they like to take the law into their own hands and can hurt or kill someone before the police can even arrive..I think it just pisses the other person off and then they try to find even more ways to annoy you and hurt you ..so no in opinion they do not work...

I personally don't think they are worth the paper they are printed on because if you need to get a restraining order then as a general rule I believe you have to prove that you fear for your safety. I do not think that a piece of paper will stop someone who is violent and might possibly make the situation much worse in fact. I don't know what the answer is but do not think that it is a restraining order or, as they are called in Australia, an AVO (Apprehended Violence Order).

I've never thought I'd want to be relying on one. A legal order might be a deterrent to some people, but I've known a lot of others who just don't care. They get angry, they get drunk, and they initiate contact with the person they're not supposed to be with. I don't think restraining orders do anything except make money for the lawyers who recommend them.
