Do you still remember this kind of old school game? Rock...paper...and scissor. I've noticed that the new generations don't play this any more, even hide-and-seek, hop skotch, etc. Most of the time, they were stuck playing computer games. Basically, there is no outdoor activities. It's no wonder, why children are more on high risk incidence of obesity.

This was one of my favorite games as a child. it was one way we made certain choices. My children are clueless about this game, they just din't know what they are missing.

We play rock, paper, scissors at home. I've never seen my son playing at school. They only study, study and study. My son isn't experiencing what I've experienced when I was still an elementary student. In the morning we played hop skotch and in the afternoon, we played tag, hide-n-seek and more other games. Our children go straight to their houses whenever they go out of their classroom door. Parents are already around fetching them so they don't have the opportunity to play anymore. How sad... :(

Your discussion gave me an idea. I will gather all children in our family and we will organize some games this weekend. Oh, that will be fun. Happy mylotting. :)

Yes, I played those games with my brothers and sisters and friends. Most of them you can play online now, and it's a pity kids don't know the excitement and joy of those games away from their computer chair. And you're right, it does contribute a lot to childhood obesity.

We really need to encourage them to outdoor activities. Children have physical education at school probably 2x in a week, but I think it is not enough.

Although I agree that children play less games than before (at least in my city, neighborhoods are not safe anymore), There are still games if parents make children join clubs where they can play games such as soccer, hanball and others. All my grandchildren know the old rock, paper and scissor win game and I have seen it lately in TV, in Castle, one of the series I watch.

Hi! I can not even see children playing in school playground much. I guess, they are too eager to go back to play computer games.

That's right. It was so much fun before! Patintero, Touch-the-Body, Shattong, Jackstones for us girls, Washington, Freeze and Melt (heheh used to sound like freeze and melk ). And playing out in the rain, under a full moon. The things that the kids of today miss!

And you know what, it was not even rock, paper, scissors with us. It was Jack en poy. Oh, wait I remember something. There was this game with slippers. There are two poles (two players facing each other and about 4 meters apart) and the player would travel his slippers two and fro the posts using different tricks. I loved that. I remember playing touch-the-body and the ball hit me squarely in the eye giving me a black-eye. I never played that game ever again!

The kids now barely involve in physical activities due to the existence of all these gadgets and game consoles. I think there has been a studying proving that there had been an increase of obese children due to kids being always indoors and snacking on unhealthy food while playing.

Children don't do exercises, staying infront of the computer screen and the like. Have a great day!

Hello Shavkat. didn't play Rock ..Paper.. scissors when I was a kid. In fact I didn't hear about it until my kids brought it home. We did Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, To see who got to be it or to be first.. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, Catch a tiger by the toe. If he hollers, let him go, Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. My mother told me/says to pick the very best one, And that is Y-O-U [2] (alternative: And you are [not] it! or "You dirty, dirty, dish rag, YOU!" I think that parents are afraid to let their children out side to play by them selves. What with all the kids and people that we hear of disappearing all the time It's no wonder they are in the house playing computer games. When I was a kid sometimes we would leave the house in the morning and not be back until it was almost dark or we got hungry. To day if kids did that they would be turned in ti child welfare for child neglect. There was a lady that was out with her 6 and 98 year old after 7:pm and she was arrested for child endangerment. Se was out in the yard with the kids and they were riding their scooters around a cul-de-sac. She spent 18 hours in jail. Not only that look at the school and park play grounds. Who would want to spend any time there. They look very boring. Organized play is safer.

Perhaps it's up to the parents to get their children off the computer and video games and out side running and playing. Too many parents are lax in their responsibilities towards their children.

All my grandchildren know the game and it`s the way to decide who wins in many instances. Besides that, I just saw the game being played on TV, at one of the "cops and murderers" shows I see. I think that although children have a more sedentary life, the main problem in my country is the dramatic change in eating habits. With Mc Donalds and fast food, we have a generation of kids that eat mainly french fries (fried in stale grease).

I remember playing this game when I was a little girl. It was something that I would do with my friends to decide who was going to get to make certain choices and now that I have children of my own, they will use this same method to make decisions in their lives as well. I do see that there are many children that do not spend very much time with the active games that I spent so much time playing when I was younger, but this isn't the case with my children. Yes, they are allowed to play on the computer, but their computer time is limited. When the weather allows for it, they are certainly encouraged to spend as much time as possible outside.

Yes I definitely remember this game. We used to play it a lot in school, especially when it came down to deciding things. I agree with you also regarding kids now and their lack of playing these types of games. The computer and the Internet is where many of them spend the majority of their time now, which is one of the reasons why obesity among kids is so high.

yes, in our days there where still no computer, psp or any gadgets.. even televisions are through antenna and so blurred.. that's why we love playing out doors.. i saw brick game once but it was expensive..lol! but now everything is hightech.. kids prefer playing computer games and watching silly cartoons..my son prefered to play used to play computer once than playing outside since he doesn't have any playmates, but when he started going to school he enjoyed playing outside since.. we played hide and seek, asked me how to play rock paper scissors, we even went out after dark to look for spiders..

Yes, that seems to be the trend these days sadly. It's good if parents would also encourage their children to play sports outside as some kind of family bonding every weekends or on holidays.

I don't remember that game of rock paper and scissors. However, I do agree about kids not playing outside like I use too. My sibilings and I would do our chores and then run outside and play till lunch or dinner. We played cowboys and indians, hop skotch, tag, hide and seek, football, catch. Now adays kids are locked up in the house in front of a computer or tv playing games. This is definitely the reason of the obesity problem in america. Please tell me how this game of rock, paper and scissors is played! Maybe I can play it with my grandkids when they come to visit in November. Thanks!

I was just talking about this the other day, and it even came up in a conversation at another site today. Kids can't be kids, and technology is ruining families. The internet, cell phones and everything can be good but then again they can be very bad too.

We have made our next generation couch potatoes,by making them indoor people. The latest video games are acquired, and our children have become fat and obese, due to our negligence of their well being. There were so many indoor and outdoor games that gave health and vigor to our children, which we have discarded for hi-tech games. Our children are paying for our negligence and carelessness.

I totally agree with you, kids now a days are more prone to indoor activities like PC games, internet, facebook, watching TV rather than physical activities. The reason for them to be prone to sickness. There were times that I do teach my daughter those outdoor games like Tumbang Preso, Chinese Garter, Piko, Patentero etc. (I don't know how to translate those in english but those are games here in the Philippines) ^_^. But my daughter don't understand the mechanics of the games, she always ask but I think it didn't register clearly what to do. Many children today are lazy because they don't have physical exercises outdoor.
