Philippine Movie Trend

It seems like movie trend in the Philippines nowadays are about love-triangle/mistress/third-party. It started last year, when the movie "No Other Woman" became the highest grossing Filipino film of all time.Last week, star cinema launched the " The mistress", a melodramatic film which also celebrates the 10th year anniversary of Lloydie and Bea as on screen loveteam. And now, the upcoming movie of Derek Ramsey,Andi Eigenman, and soultry Anne Curtis," Secret Affair". Honestly, I watched the movie " No Other Woman" though the plot was predictable I enjoyed watching the film because of the feisty bandying words between the mistress and the legal wife. But I guess,if this is the trend nowadays, if will be dreary for some audiences because some of the Korean telenovelas these days are of the same direction like Two Wives, Pink Lipstick, and last year's Fierce Wife. I guess, the audience will have to see how Derek and Anne would portray their roles in the movie "Secret Affair" because last year, Anne was the mistress and Derek was the Philandering husband but in this movie they are couple engaged to be married.

I also noticed the trend. Maybe because Anne and Derek started it, and I think the audiences are ready for it. Although on the part of the producers, it's the appeal on the public. To be honest, I haven't even watched "No Other Woman", probably because my husband can't understand tagalog and I know he will watch it with me just to please me but I think I'll just borrow a DVD when he's not here.

I honestly don't like the trend.. I can't even remember when I've learned of the word "mistress" or other woman or 3rd party..but for sure I've learned that when I was more than 10 yrs. old already.. But now, LOL! kids actually are unaware but bcoz of these movies/series-kids thought this "3rd party" is normal.. and should really exist.. I just wish no kid will ask and adult guy like this: Kid: Who's your wife? Man: (answers) Kid: Who's your mistress? The point is..because of these movies..kids might think having a "mistress" is a must for men..

Well, honestly since I got married, I become interested in this type of movie. I guess because I am now a wife, myself.I cannot imagine myself being cheated on by husband. But I try to put myself in the shoes of the wife. There are actually a lot of lessons to learn from this type of film. What's making it more interesting are seeing how the wives pick themselves up and gathering strength to move on after a difficult situation. It teaches women how to be strong.

Another trend now are the return of the horror movies. They are not only very predictable but are also very commercialized. Though the cinematic actually improved, I will not watch it on the big screen simply because of its predictability. I sure many of you would raise your eyebrow and will call me name because of my un-nationalistic approached about the movie industry. Maybe if the movie producers would make a real "movie", then I would surely watched it.

I won't call you un-nationalistic Fulltank, in fact I think you are doing the industry a favor when you become an honest movie critic cause it gives them a good reason to improve on our movie industry.

Hi, When life imitates art, that is the reason. So much has transpired in modern society about multiple wives, mistresses and the like that it has became the norm for those who can afford it. Maybe it is the sign of the times, or should I say, it is art imitating life.

Cannot help but agree. The relationship between the people is often an open secret to society and sometimes the scripts are bits of pieces of many stories regarding them. It's just a retelling of truth that perhaps, for some people is very hard to accept and admit.

yeah thats true, actually its not really the movie that started the trend about love triangle, mistress theme. as far as i can remember it was on a tv show which started the whole thing in the movie industry here in our country. If you will remember the Korean drama Temptation of a Wife which was shown on GMA 7. the Koren drama was top rating. it was the story of Angeline wife of Marcel, and this Marcel fell in-loved with Angeline's best friend Heidi. This drama started the whole thing then came the movie from GMA 7 My Neighbors Wife. Then the top grosser film No other woman came. Today there is again a Korean drama same theme - the Two Wives on ABS CBN. So we can again wait for more movies and TV shows like these.

yeah it has been the trend lately... it was a hit, the movie no other woman and then they had to make another one with the same type of supposed plot where there is another woman or a mistress. =( geesh i haven't watched the mistress other woman but i did watch no other woman. it sure was good movie, actually...

Yeah I guess our society is trying to open up with this taboo and realizes that this is the reality. I guess gone are the days that this topic is avoided despite it is happening all around them. I remember in the 70s this kind of plots was introduced already but it was not as open as it is now.

Yes i noticed that too, belle. And to be honest, i don't want it because it seems that having a mistress is already being accepted. However, with No Other Woman, i liked it because the legal wife won. It's the way it should be , not the mistress being the one to be cheered. There's another one coming, John lloyd and Bea Alonzo, A Beautiful Affair and i think the topic is the same, married person falling in love with another.

in the past, the topic about the other woman/mistress is a taboo and everybody most likely dont want to talk about it upfront because it is much nice to talk about it in hushed tones but times are changing and the life of being a mistress is now being spotlighted but the winner is still the legal wife.

I really do not appreciate the trending now of movies themes here in our country. I find it very inappropriate of there are many youths and young ones out there that would also see this. This will just be encouraging such young minds to mimic such acts which are immorally wrong and inappropriate.

I guess it happening everywhere and so is the new trend in the real world. people are having wives and also mistresses. I think in the urban places as cities and all, must be like 40% of it happening. because I have seen out of 10, 7 people having mistresses, still i have put the percentage less. lol.. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

People patronize these kind of movies that producers can't help but make it a trend. They always strike while the iron is hot. I just hope that it won't affect the people morally. The lesson that we should be getting from this kind of movies must always be what is right, not merely justifying what is wrong. Movies should also play a role in nation building because of it's great influence in society.

I agree that people who produce these are catering to the whims of the audience. They want to watch one so they will make one. I also agree on what should be emphasize in these movies.many people just watch them for the sake of entertainment but they should have something to think or ponder about. Movies must make the audience think and feel. The reaosn why they should be realistic s to evoke some response from the viewer. However, it should also cater other the truth. Mistresses are a reality. Developing problems like marriage problems or family problems due to mistresses is also reality I just hip people just learn and not just laugh at the life performed beofre their eyes.
