Will Losing Some Weight Make my Ring Fit Better?

My friend bought me a pretty ring that I like to wear all the time, but this summer, probably because the weather has been so hot, this ring feels too tight. Probably when cooler weather comes it will be fine again, but we have a few months left of summer here in the desert. So I wonder if dropping a few pounds would make my fingers skinnier. What do you think? Has this ever happened to you? How did you solve it?

It might help if you lose weight, my fingers got skinnier when I lost some weight. It depends on how fat your fingers are before you lose weight. Fingers and joints are prone to swelling, especially as we age, so it might not help to lose weight at all.

Yes, it is probably just the hot weather. I don't think I've been getting notifications of your discussions lately. Nice to see you are around.

Hmmm - I think some people hang the ring in a chain around the neck. Can't lose it so easily. When I was young, a jeweler made a too big ring smaller. Now, when I am a lot older, I can only use it on my little finger, but I don't like using rings anyway, so I might sell it. I am drinking cranberry juice and it helps getting rid of some water in the body.. But maybe you have not that problem.. I read somewhere that a thyroid problem might cause swelling too, but I am not sure of what kind of thyroid problem can cause that. I have a slow thyroid and my ankles are swelling, but the fingers are not very swollen. It is actually better as I am eating Kelp from A. Vogel.

Yeah, we should massage our hands every day, as that is a way to get zone therapy in a very easy way. Take care, my friend..

Sometimes my friend's ankles swell up when the weather is very hot, and then I put massage cream on them and push the swelling up and away from his feet and have him put his feet up for a while. Actually, I have made the swelling go down on people's hands, too, by massaging the fingers. Maybe I should do that to myself, duh!!!

Your fingers do swell in the heat from water retention as well as weight gain. You seem to eat so healthy I cannot imagine you retaining fluids, but I guess it happens. My fingers go up and down in this weather as well. I think some of it depends on what I eat. Less salt, more fruit and more activities seems to help. Even when I do not lose weight.

The salt might be the culprit because due to eating very healthy stuff at home, when we travel we do enjoy a little fast food along the way, and it was during our road trip that I especially noticed the ring feeling too tight. When that happens I pull it off and put it on my little finger, but that is too loose a fit and it could get lost. Maybe someone makes a little gold chain that goes around the wrist like a bracelet and has a ring clip. I do not know what to call such a thing, but if it isn't available, probably a jeweler could make one.

Of course losing weight will help your ring to fit better! When you lose weight, you lose it everywhere mostly. I lost 20kg a few years back when I started eating healthier and I had to get my wedding resized by quite a few sizes due to my fingers being a lot skinnier. It just kept falling off all the time beforehand. When they resized it, they had to re-engrave it due to losing some of the text engraved inside it.

I remember well that when I got my wedding ring I never gave a thought to the possibility of ever having it resized. I was so skinny then and tried everything to gain weight with no success. Now I don't have that problem, , but I am happy with my current weight and with cooler weather coming on everything will fit again.

If the ring you have fit you fine, and you haven't gained any significant weight, then you probably are "puffy" from the heat. Once it cools down your ring should fit fine. However, if you've had the ring for awhile and since you received gained 10, 20, 30 or more pounds then losing weight might help. I know I tend to yo-yo with my weight, and I gained 50 pounds before I had to drop some weight to help my engagement ring fit better again. So for me gaining actually up to 40 pounds has no affect on my fingers. The heat however, makes my fingers blow up like little balloons.

I did eat like a little piggy all summer and managed to gain 10 lbs, so it might be a little of both. I don't like to get too skinny in the winter as I am colder than anybody I share space with...but I could lose 10 or 15 lbs without getting emaciated, lol.
