Telemarketers and Market Research

I have noticed that many people get telemarketing and market research mixed up. they are not the same. Telemarketing is where people solicit people over the phone and try and get them to buy whatever products they are selling. Market research only collects data by conducting surveys. They don't solicit anything. The surveys are used to help make using your services or products better for you. DO NOT CALL LIST: Many people say that they are on a national do not call list. Because you are on a national do not call list, doesn't mean anything. The national do not call list is for telemarketers who solicit products, not market research companies. Now having worked in a market research company, I got cursed out, yelled at, and hung up on because people did not want to do surveys. I have also been told that they have been getting calls from the same company, different people. Let me say this. The calls you get are computer generated. the people are not calling you, its a computer. Rather than yelling at them, screaming at them, and cursing them out, they are only doing their jobs. If you don't want to do the survey, rather than saying you don't want to do the survey, ask to be taken off the list of the company. They have to take you off the list. if you only say you don't want to do the survey, they will keep calling until you tell them to take you off the list. Keep in mind, When they call you, they have no idea that they have interrupted you from your dinner or whatever you was doing. Respect comes a long way. In order to get respect, you also have to give it. Also keep in mind that there are alot of market research companies, so you may not be getting called from the same person or company to begin with. Respect comes a long way. to get respect you have to give it. They are only doing their jobs, just like you are doing your jobs. Have respect for what they do. It's not their fault. Another thing, don't start doing a survey when you really didnt want to do it in the first place. Stop having your kids do the survey because they cannot do it. lets be mature about it.

Hello ebony, I understand quite well the difference between telemarking and market research, because I graduated in college from marketing. What I didn´t know is that people were so rude, answering phone calls. It is sad. That`s why many research companies use the internet to have they surveys answered. Personally I was polite with telemarketers, but many of them just want to hear you say yes, to whatever they sell. One day I had eleven phonecalls from a call center. Indeed they were very polite in their languaje, but they were harassing me. As I didn`t answer yes I continued appearing in their list. Since then, I suscribed my phone number to the National do not call list. Eleven calls, that was insane! I think I learnt to be cautious with the phone calls we receive. But I enjoy sometimes answering surveys at internet. I don´t get surveys phone calls. You have to be very patient and brave to do your work with success... good luck! Blessings lol ebony... dainy

I wasn't insulting your intellegence, just trying to help people out. the national do not call list has nothing to do with the market research companies, its with the telemarketing companies. Market research companies don't solicit. they just do surveys. thats the reason why they keep calling you, and you have to understand that there are alot of market research companies out there. you can tell them that you dont want to do the surveys but they will call you. you have to tell them to take your number off the list. obvious you gave your number to a company that you allowed to call you. Point is, tell them to take your number off the companies list.
