The cost of vegetables goes up every day, the average now is 50 to 60 rupees per kilogram, and hubby spends minimum 100 rupees per day for this. Potato costs 17 rupees per kilogram; I always have 3-4 kilo of this in stock in kitchen shelf. We add this to most curries, even meat, fish, egg curry; mesh boiled potato to make ‘aloo-bharta’; salt, cut onion is added, it tastes so good. Fried potato is good too. Potato contains; vitamin-c; b-complex; iron, calcium, protein, carbohydrate, fats; minerals. It has other uses too. After boiling potato, don’t throw the water, mesh one potato in it and use it as hair wash, it makes hair shine, strong and stops hair fall. Rub meshed potato on skin, it makes it look fair. Application of potato paste over burns helps it heal faster. Lemon juice added with potato paste, works as stain remover. Potato is said to have relieve constipation; the potassium content in it helps reduce acidity. There is another, keep potato over fire till tender, remove skin, add salt, green chili; mesh; eating this removes joint pain. I have tried some, you may try. Hope you will like this information. So are you fund of potato? How you cook and use for any other purpose. Please share your valued tips and comments. Thanks in advance. Kalyani October 1, 2012.

I eat a vegan diet. I didn't know potatoes were so beneficial. I wonder why they aren't included in the 5 vegetables and fruits a day being healthy strategy. I like to eat chips with vinegar of them. I enjoy eating a jacket potato. I like to eat roasted potatoes. I would like to get a chip fryer that makes almost fat free chips. I like to eat crisps that are twirls and they have the flavor salt and vinegar.

I like potatoes very much too! I did not know that they had so many other useful purposes, but I know that they are very nutritious and are very good for us. I cook them in my soups, mash them for my son and fry them sometimes with my eggs.

I honestly don't think that there are many people that are not fans of potatoes because of the fact that they taste really good and they are also something that is very versatile. In the United States, I believe that people eat too many potatoes and that is one of the reasons that there is a lot of obesity problems here. You see, potatoes might have a lot of necessary vitamins in minerals in them, but they are also a starch and that does mean that the body does metabolize them as a sugar product.

never heard that potatoe is good for your hair and skin although I live in a country where people do eat a lot of potatoes. The "potatoe easters" are painted in my country, the painty tell you enough.. just potatoes with nothing. BTW there are also people who are allergic against it. Personal I don't like potatoes at all and seldom eat them, it only as french frites or baked. They are not that healthy as you say they are, it's more healthy to eat rice or bulgur. If you boil/cook rice it should be in a lot of water, this should be more healthy according some scientist (heard it on the news last week).
