hi ElicBxn oh that reminds of a scary movie I saw years ago where this odd little girl sat at the piano and playes that song about the worms go in.,and I wish I could remember the actors name who played her dad, the whole thing haunted me and gave me jnight mares ., I think I was maybe twelve something like that with a vivid imagination,.that would be a mean one to get stuck in one's head.Could the actor's name have been Don Amache?

hi cynthiann yes havent thought of that in a long long time but I remember it well.andhe silly songs we sang during the second world war,. likd dozeydots and mairsydots and three little fishes and don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me., we had fun singing those duringt those horrid war years. The first song I remember was "Happy Days are here again, the skies above are blue again .let us sing a song of cheer again happy days are here again" I learned later that that song ushered in a new start from the terrible depression of my early childhood. The people were rec vering and jobs were opening up again

I will tell you something for nothing. That dozey dotes song? The words were corrupted. I only found this out a few years ago and I was so surprised. So listen to this. I hope that you sing it too. These is the original words: Dears eat oats And does eat oats And little lambs eat barley And I'd eat barley too, wouldn't you? Now aren't I clever today even though I am trying to become acclimatised to the heat after seven months?

Hi Hatley!! Hee hee - I love that you're a big kid - hee hee!!! My little ones are still little, so I hear a bunch of children's songs all the time. So if a little song comes into my mind - I know why - ha ha. There are a some songs I would love to look up - not exactly childrens songs - but I used to dance to them when I was in summer school during elementary times. I can hum them til this day - but I don't know ANY of the lyrics . . . drives me bonkers because without them, I can't look them up!!!! I grew up with Japanese kids songs - and once and a while the music pops into my head out of nowhere - but again, I can't look them up because I don't remember any of the lyrics!!!!!!

hi much2say yes when this silly song p opped into my head I felt like a kid again, When I was little m y dad had hired a German man and he had his little girl with him she taught me a German kids song now all I remember is something like Auchsterlabor Augustine and I sure could not tell you what it meant now,.I know that in English there's something about we all get together but thats the extent of my knowledge on that one,.I just l ucked out on the little white duck one and found all the stanzas.oh now I remember the more we get together the happier we will be. lol

hi much2say my memory of that German man and his child is also marred, we two kids were six and w e came into the tool shed and we were horrified, the German man was drowning six little puppies.here I am 85 and still remember how scared I was as he told me not to tell anyone or something bad would happen to my mommy . I had nightmares that night and my mom and dad got me to tell about that wicked German man and what he had said to me and what he had done,. My parents were furious as they both loved dogd and cats too, my dad fired him and told him take your child and leave at once or I will see you in prison for puppy abuse., what a thing for two little girls to have to see..

Oh yah, I have heard "the more we get together the happier we will be" . . . that one sure rings a bell!! Though I didn't know that from childhood . . . I know that one from when my daughter was in a mommy and me class - but I didn't hear that one previously (I think). I remember feeling silly because all the other moms knew that one except for me!!

"One eyed, one horned, flying, purple, people-eater." My mom use to say that to me a lot as a kid. lol. I will remember that little song/phrase until the day I die. But I will never know where it comes from, or why it is so catchy and popular. My children will certainly know this one day. haha

I bought a halloween themed CD a few years back that had the PPE song on it..A guy called Sheb Wooley had a hit with the song in 1958,so remembering an "old" song takes you back to the time you heard it.. One of the things I remember about my Godmother was her singing "Doh-ray-Me" from "The Sound of Music" when I was small....

I think there are times we all have moments like this and have people look at us and wonder if we are OK. I know there are timeswhen I have hummed the theme song to Flintstones or smurfs and had people think I am odd. But personally I think it is OK no matter how old we might get to do this. Shows we still have a little bit of kid in us still.

Just a couple of months of hitting the big six-oh, I'm still just a kid myself and do have kiddie songs--including this one from my husband, Burl Ives (more details about that in another comment in this thread)--popping into my head frequently. One that finds reason to pop into my head is the one about Georgie complaining to Liza that there's a hole in his bucket. There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza. There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, a hole. Then, mend it, dear Georgie, dear Georgie, dear Georgie. Then, mend it, dear Georgie, dear Georgie, mend it. So, it goes on to where Georgie asks with what he should mend it. Instead of writing down the entire song, I'm just going to do it conversational-style. Georgie: There's a hole in my bucket. Liza: Then, mend it. Georgie: With what should I mend it? Liza: With straw. Georgie: But the straw is too long. Liza: Then, cut it. Georgie: With what should I cut it? Liza: With a knife. Georgie: But the knife is too blunt. Liza: Then, sharpen it. Georgie: With what should I sharpen it? Liza: With a stone. Georgie: But the stone is too dry. Liza: Then, wet it. Georgie: With what should I wet it? Liza: With water. Georgie: In what should I carry it? Liza: In the bucket. Georgie: There's a hole in my bucket!!! One reason this song pops into my head is that we need to get one thing or another fixed around here. For example: A situation might go like this: My credit is maxed. Get some money to get it back to where you have a good credit record. Where do I get this money? Get a loan. How can I get a loan? Provide proof of your good credit. But my credit is maxed.

This children's song personified the duck.I haven't heard the song, much less getting an idea of what its morality was. However I can well feel that you still preserve traces of childishness.

Hello Hatley. Yeah, and it was "John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Shmit, his name is my name too. Whenever we go out, the people always shout, "There goes John Jacob Jingle Hiemer Shmit!, la da da da da da da..." I liked the way we had to sing it almost to a whisper and then you get to the part where, "the people always shout..." you would have to almost yell the name. Just fun times as a child...

hi bunnybon that one I do remember as it always inspired me to finish what I had started. I fear my father thought always I was just a dreamer, but when I gave him a grandson He was actually pleased with me and I forgave him for what he did t o me as a child. but one never forgets when a parent molests one as a child. Now days he would go to prison for that so he was very lucky. I never again trusted him.

hi ifa oh yes I remember singing that in grade school and the one about the teensy weeny spider went up the water spout, along came the rain and washed the spider out, out came the sun and dried up all the rain, and the teensy weiny spider went up the spout again. Also from the library reading for kids, "There was an old woman who swallowed a fly,it wiggled and jiggled inside her,I do Not know why.," the kids really love that one as it had umpteen verses to it. Its sort of fun to reminese about childhood songs.

My dear Ms. Hatley When I was a kid, they didnt have such good music and orchestra playing the poems. And maybe this is one reason I wasnt a good learner. But today, when my nephew goes to school and gets back home with a CD of all the poems that are on his syllabus and we listen to them, the music is so good. I mean it is a great thing and change that I have seen happening for good. They make the poems so very hummable and even singable. Even the jack and Jill Went up the Hill and also the Baa baa black sheep sound so very good and musical. Thanks to you dear lady for bringing me the memories of how the days were at school
