Is IPL has affected the international cricket? Earlier there were some matches between international cricket teams and cricketers from different countries were very keen to come in international cricket. But now I have seen a trend where cricketers are more interested in IPL rather than for their own country’s team. Is it a good sign, what are your views?

IPL made cricket as business. The owners of IPL teams make handsome amount of profit out of this game. They purchase the players from different countries and give them high amount of money. So cricketers are more interested to play in IPL rather than play for own countries. It is a bad sign for overall cricket.

hey thank u for posting this interesting discussion. But all i can say is that IPL has benefited some and not everyone. This is because there are some players who have come from nowhere and have made their way to their national teams and for some, it has been a downfall like for the Indians whose performance has degraded badly in the test format. So the one who have enjoyed their stint in IPL are crazy to play for it again. So in a way it has affected the cricket both positively and negatively. What say?

Thanks for the precious response. But IPL made players also very money minded. they prefer to play in IPL over their country's team.

Thanks a ton for your response again. Yes this cash strapped tournament has even compelled some players to retire from playing for their national team and rather concentrate on IPL. Even some players are coming out of retirement only for IPL. They are giving more importance to IPL over their national team. What say?

I don't think so. International cricket is much bigger than IPL. IPL is only a part of it. After IPL other forums of cricket will keep attracting cricket fans.

I think IPL has affected the world cricket in a very positive manner. Remember Watson, where was he before that first season of IPL. No where. Now, he is the best player of the World T20 and he was rehabilitated during the IPL. Think Marlon Samuels and his stint in the last IPL really helped him win his place back in the Windies team and he ended up as the man of the match in the World T20 final. The same holds good for the likes of Gayle, Pollard and Sunil Narine who were all in the wilderness before the IPL. So I think IPL has actually affected world cricket in a very positive manner. Cheers! Ram

Definitely IPL has very much effected the players. Most the players want to play only for their IPL teams because they are getting paid heavily for their performance in those tournaments than any other tournament. Then of course their interset would towards that. But as whole we can't blame IPL too. Ipl also marked the improvement of some players to a certain extent.
