I think she needs to look at herself

My Mother watches Hoarders all the time, now I'll say our house isnt nearly as bad. She keeps walking by you need to watch this show, this is your future house, this is how gross you are. Now right now I will admit I have a pile in the basement, but this is household items i.e. pots, appliances, so when I move out I wont have to worry about buying them all at once. I have a tiny room, and right now I have my printer on the floor printing resumes, and I usually have a pile of dirty clothes, and at the moment a box of items I;m selling. So it looks cluttered, but again not much can fit in my tiny little room. Her counters are piles with crap, old food rotting, a cat pukes up a hair ball if I dont pick it up it would stay there, her room has piles of crap with clothes and toys you name it, you literally cant walk anywhere without tripping over something now again not as bad as on TV. She never cleans, and the upstairs bathroom is nasty. I clean my bathroom downstairs even though they use it. The sink hasnt been cleaned since they replaced it 3 years ago, and they have used toilet paper all over the floor, and not to name the food my younger brother flings when he doesnt like. She is getitng beyond annoying now, I just ignore her but again like a little birdy following you around that you want to strangle to shut up. I know if I was living by myself it would be spotless, and the mess would be mine, and me cleaning it up.

I know I could not ever manage to live in your house. for one you have one too many animals and they bring filth themselves. leaving hair all over the place adn tracking what ever gets on their paws everywhere. the bathroom has to be spotless where I have to sit down at. your mother should be shot for living like that.

All my 3 cats are brushed, as well as the rabbit and two guinea pigs. I vacuum and wash every week or more depending also their beds and toys. I sweep my floor every day to every other day because of their hay (it can cause a mess). I wont use their bathroom, it's so gross. Yet, when someone comes over and says something it's all me causing it (clearly I walk up 3 flights of stairs to spit my toothpaste out). I've tried cleaning up say teh kitchen and I got punched in the face and almost broke my nose. During Thanksgiving dinnre, my Grandma came over commenting on their dirty kitchen and again it was all me yet I was at work all day and didnt use a single dish. Their couch and chairs are full of dog hair you literally cant sit on it. They don't clean or when they do its my room, and throwing all my things out, and saying how dirty I am (clearly they should look at themselves). I wont buy myself anything such as clothes, or worth money because they will throw it out.

Your whole family are literally sick to think this is okay. If I were you I would get an apartment and get the heck out of Dodge. Even if you don't buy your own place, you could rent a place like most everyone else does. You work a lot of jobs and you have way more money than I do to buy your animals this and that and go way out of your way doting on them. I'm not faulting you for that, but I'm just saying you can get out on your own and leave that mess. I think you all are co-dependent on each other, and that's why you never leave. You have lots of savings to back you up with to get started out on your own. It's just having the courage to leave that nasty environment. This kind of hoarding behavior and the way your mother acts and your brother acts just isn't okay. It's out there over the moon somewhere.. like they live on another planet. Geeezzzz.

I couldn't live in that mess. I bet it stinks to high heaven to someone that doesn't live there and gotten used to the stench. Used toilet paper all over the floor? you mean wipe her butt and then drop the paper in the floor? Isn't there flush mechanism on your toilet? Even if you do the yellow let it mellow thing, and only flush when you poop, the paper shouldn't go on the floor. How nasty is that. If the sink hasn't been cleaned in 3 years, that means you haven't bothered to clean it either, right? Because they use it? This sort of reflects badly on you too for having a nasty house.. I mean the bathroom is not private to you only, right? The show Hoarders is extreme. The boxes and trash go up to the ceiling. But you don'y have to be that extreme to have a hoarding problem. It's a mental illness and needs to be treated with therapy, because the hoarder will never clean it up on her or his own. There is just no excuse for that kind of behavior. Maybe she drinks too much and has lost any sense about cleaning up.

I always just assumed that your younger brother was a young adult, I didn't realize until now that your younger brother is just a child. Wow, there must be a huge age difference between you all. That said, there are a lot of things that you've said here that just disgust me. The flinging food, the used toilet paper all over the bathroom, the piles of stuff everywhere. I will admit that my house doesn't belong in Better Homes and Gardens, and it is cluttered. However, a large part of the reason that our house is cluttered is because of the fact that we do have eight people living in a relatively small house most of the time.

It is a wonder that that house does not have mold, or cockroaches.

i always look at that show and think, what can i get rid of? my mom is a hoarder to a small extent. she has stuff from when i was a kid but i think that is just the 'save money' mindset just because when she and my dad first got married, they were poorer than dirt (my dad fished on his days off so they could eat!) it is too bad that your mom won't wake up and think about her own house. i bet you cannot wait to be out of there!

The next time she says anything I'd say "look I know you hate the way you live but given I have a small room, my room is dang spotless compared to yours. I only have a little room to work with. Get off my case, unless you're offering me up your room, of course AFTER you clean it! She seems to be just jealous of you and not sure how to handle it any other way. Trying to make you feel bad to make her feel good, ya know?

It is so dirty the way you have expressed it. Does it not stink?? It must be hard to stay in this type of dirty home. Why don't you try moving out? you will be much better off alone since they don't even appreciate you. I would have left the house by now. Don't take me wrong but i think you should move and I see that you are already planning on since you are buying things for your own household now. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

It is hard to look at ourselves in the same way that we look at other people on the television because our houses can get cluttered so gradually that we just don't realise that it is happening to us. You should encourage her to clean up a little bit, or hire somebody else who would do it every couple of months. It is not good to be living in a house that is not clean, and I bet that she isn't very happy having to live like this because you would be a lot happier to be living in a clean home than a dirty one for sure.

Wow, I guess you really have to clean your house. I hope your mom will spend some time to clean. I guess it's not good to stay in such a mess. It won't give you any peace of mine. I hope one day, you'll all have general cleaning. Anyway, just clean the place where you stay as long as possible. Happy mylotting.

The good thing for you is that you are actually cleaning after yourself. Also you do have an example of what you do not want to be like. The problem with her is once you move out it may get worse in her house. Even though she hasn't gotten to hoarders status yet you may want to get her on Clean House (if they get to Canada). Like you said she needs to take a look at herself but people are bad about doing that until the have a mirror set up in front of them and no where to hide.
