Today I saw the new and it was about a group of students who got "possessed by evil spirits due to playing spirit of the paper. They school called a priest to do some exorcism. Later after the event the department of health issued another explanation. According to the health expert it was a case of "mass hysteria". How about you guys? Do you believe in spirit possession or do you prefer to believ the scientific part of hysteria?

I think this is just some mass hysteria going on. I don't get why they do it though, attention seeking? .

Well if that was just acting for halloween, they sure did a hell of a good job. I don't think it was just acting though because their bodies look so rigid plus the seizure looks like the real thing. I hope they are well too.

Well yeah! You have a great observation. Most of the times it does happens in provinces. Oh well, I don't want to dwell on why since I live on a province.

Yes, well... seizures are difficult to fake. and tiring. O.o all that thrashing around requires so much energy. Sometimes I wonder whether it's the real thing and why it happens only in the provinces. I don't know... I just hope they recover and get to live normal lives after such experiences. :)

I also have read about 'mass hysteria' in schools here. Recently, a group of girls in the school my niece went to watched a short clip of a horror film on one of the girls' phone. Not long after, the whole class was in 'mass hysteria'. The teachers couldn't explain fully why it happened, but they did mention the horror clip, and it's possibility that it was the cause. Most people in this modern age tend to accept more the scientific reasons for any phenomena or strange happenings as opposed to spirits' movements or possessions. But I think one can be closely related to the other, especially in this case.

I kind of agree with you of the close relationship between spiritual and scientific. For me, a spiritual explanation of things is describing a thing or event that still can't be described using scientific terminologies. On the other hand, a scientific explanation is originally a spiritual one that we've replaced with technical terms. Just an opinion though.

Your comment reminded me of Dan Brown's character in Angels and Demons... Vetra, I think.. the scientist who was also a priest. ^_^ @lynnes75 that was kind of creepy. x_x whenever there are some videos involved I get scared. I'm kind of a scaredy cat so...... I do hope the kids there are fine now..

You give a valid opinion as well, @beamer. I mean, thinking on a broad level, just because we choose to believe in one doesn't mean we can totally discount the other. Also my opinion :) I don't know, @ajlasent, but thanks for your concern :) I'm also assuming that the kids are okay. Some kids I know who go to the school said all the students have returned, although it remains to be seen if there are any lingering effects from that incident. But one thing's for sure, they have all sworn off horror films, lol! Well, so they said; the teachers could only hope, and I'm sure their parents as well *shake my heads*

I think only those who experienced the paranormal can judge how real it was. I think skepticals can close the doors to the other side. I always thought if we just being good or bad just die without consequences was very unfair but I never believed in hell either, God is Good so He wouldn't just send us to an eternal suffering. There was probably some spiritual thing going on in there and surely not good spirits.

Yes I think you are right. The answer to those can only be provided by those who have really experienced the phenomenon. I am still undecided which side to believe. I think that the scientific part is easier to believe and is consoling but the spiritual thing is disturbing.

I think if you are raised to be superstitious then it would be easier to believe in the spiritual possession. But if you don't believe in such thing, you will always look to science to find the answer.

I am actually still undecided on the matter. But well the scientific part seems easier to believe because it is rational. But I am not closing my door on the religious aspect though.

I think it is ridiculous to some degree. How can students be controlled by spirit? It should be false. However, what is" mass hysteria"? I can not understand it clearly. Is it a serious disease or just a new concept? Indeed, although I think none of them is right, I prefer accepting the second one, because it shows that we won't be possessed by evil spirits one day.

Hi Winnie, so you are the rational type I see. Mass hysteria is a condition wherein a lot of people experience the same hysterical physical symptoms like seizures and convulsions. It is kinda mysterious in nature too but it is acknowledged by science.
