Poor memory

Recently I just found out that I have poor memory at workplace. I cannot remember all the things my boss told me, like what, where and why this things happen in paperwork, I can remember part of the names of customers, I have been like this care free, easy going but not so good memory in terms of working or studying. So I always fired myself when I step at a time where my boss is going to test me, and now I know I can't do the work I want like secretary, because every job has a target to meet, even paperwork that are in a project, they also have deadlines, such process to go, I found out that I can't do this, although when I was small, I was a smart girl, now I began to feel like I am a dumb girl. I only think that if I cannot meet deadlines or target, then my only job would be online, but online money is so little not even enough to feed myself, so I am thinking of doing freelance sales which are flexible. Once my boss asked me "choi yee, what is your target?", and I reply "I don't know" it shows how stupid I am.

Thanks for sharing this discussion. i think u should chill and relax for a moment and u should not worry about this issue as this is quite a common thing with most of the people around us. It is impossible to remember all the things and if u are very honest and humble to accept that u are not able to remember things then that is not your problem. It do happens at times and u should try to remove all the tensions and stress while at your work place and concentrate on your work i am sure u will remember everything. What say?

I admit I have stress, but all these years I never work peacefully because of the horrible boss. I am sure if I was given a quiet environment, I will do my work at best. He...he Thanks for the comment.

Don't worry about the memory.Try writing down everything that your boss says to you.I also have very poor memory.I forget to do my daily work and the deadlines to meet.So Whenever I have a thing to remember,I used to jolt it down in my cellphone as drafts.Whenever I have free time,I used to review my drafts and put the recent things to do in the top list. Thus I am able to do my things in proper time. Many people are like us where little things are forgotten easily. Figure out your own strategy to overcome it.

Remove the negative attitude out of your mind.Stay calm and dont think that 'Something is wrong with me' thats a so negative feeling which blows all your problems out of pro-potion. Instead think 'What is missing in my life ?' that motivates you to add the things..We have all had problems its our priotity to blow things out of propotion .. so stop doing it ..you ll find possibilities yourself.best of luck

I don't think that this means that you are stupid. I know that it really can be a lot to remember when you are getting started with a new job. In addition to that, it is really hard to concentrate on everything when you are working in a field or position that isn't something that is really interesting to you. I would venture to guess that if you did find a job in a field that held your interest really well, then you would not have these problems with remembering everything.

Hi wong! I would suggest that you should always have a note pad with you. It is understandable that you can not memorize every little details so you should be prepared at all times. Another thing I want to share is the keeping of a daily journal. You can post all you transactions in a day for easy reference. Believe me it is a good practice. Have a nice day!

If we tend to miss any information, then its not possible to live even. I also have a lack of memory. Very often I forget my neighbours names specially just whenever I feel a headache.

Bad memory is something that can be a problem in a lot of people, and it is more likely to be this way when you are at work because you're more likely to be stressed when you're at work with deadlines to meet. One of the things that you can do is make lists of things that you have to do and keep it on your desk. That way, you can look at it every hour or so just to make sure that you're still on track with the things that you have to do. You should also set alarms for your deadlines as this means that you're not likely to miss them.

Every morning, you need to make a 'to do' list. Write down all the things you need to accomplish during the day, and their time limits or due times or whatever you need to keep you on track. I used to do this, checking it often to make sure I was where I needed to be.

hello wongchoiyee, sounds to me like you have done a very good bit of self analysis here. when you say you fire yourself when you think your boss is going to test you that probably explains why you end up not liking jobs. but we can train our memories, i used to think i could never memorise a song, and that i couldn't perform one, except without reading them from paper, but then i just forced myself to do it, and now i find it quite easy to do, you can train your memory. and once you have done it the first time it will get easier. but i am not very good with paperwork either, so i can understand why you don't like it, and maybe you need a job that isn't office work, there must be something you could do that you would find interesting, that isn't working in a office. you might find you enjoy freelance sales, you could even try a bit of ebay selling. as that is different sort of work, and you might enjoy it more. but your boss asked you a very useful question, about what your target is, as if we don't have goals or targets then we never end up doing what we really want. there are loads of self help books about setting goals, and targets and stuff, sort of life coaching issues, it might be worth looking at something like that.
