Have you ever made 2 responses to the same discussion?

I was recently browsing through a selection of discussions from quite a few years ago. When I came across one that interested me I was uncertain whether I may have responded a few years earlier, so I browsed through the responses to ensure that none of them were mine. The discussion had already received over 60 responses, which made it a little more laborious to check than one with responses in single figures. It appeared that I had not responded before so I happy posted. This made me wonder how often someone has inadvertently added a second response, which would be quite understandable in some circumstances. Have you done this and then realised the mistake afterwards?

Yes, I have done it before, though I can't remember where. I responded several months later on a certain topic without remembering that I had already responded. Fortunately the second response portrayed the same thoughts as the previous one.

If it had happened to me I would probably feel quite guilty at the time, despite knowing in my own mind that it was an innocent mistake. Still, it is such a difficult thing to avoid that we have to accept that it can happen and forget about it.

hi Asyulum I sure have and its most always on an older discussion and then I feel ticked off at myself one thing for me is about a year or t wo ago I did n ot always rate others as I should have and then realized if I wanted my star to rise and otheres to rise I needed to rate people as I responded to their posts. now I also use that to show m yself I have already responded to that older discussion. not s ure if we get paid butr could be. now I know on newer d iscussions that if its rated I have already added my two or four cents to the mix. lollol

This is a very good point. It had not occurred to me that rating every discussion I responded to would make it obvious which ones they were, but of course you are right because the option to rate would then disappear. I only tend to rate the ones that I either consider worthy of a positive or deserve a negative. Quite a few fall somewhere in between, so it would prove difficult to give either rating. I have no wish to rate a discussion negative unless I believe it really deserves it, and rating all others as positive does not seem fair to the really good ones which deserve to stand out.

If a discussion is good enough for me to answer, it is good enough for me to rate it positively. Unless of course it is a really bad discussion and then it would probably get a negative mark, although I probably have done that less than ten times, or it would be a discussion that needs to be reported. I rate them all.

Yes, I have posted more than one response to a discussion. If I learn something new I want to add and I cannot find a response to comment on with additional information, I will just respond again. As some are asking if we get paid for that. . . my answer would be that it is participation, so more than likely we do get paid for it. Just as we may make a response in one box and comments in others and all over the place. I will reinforce the idea of rating the discussion so that you know that you have responded to it already.

I had not considered the option of someone intentionally submitting 2 responses, although I can see the logic in what you say. I have often posted a comment to another member's response, but never thought of responding again.

Yes, I did it before. But this is because at that time Mylot had some glitches and therefore I was not sure whether my response was posted. So I did it again. Usually after I responded to a discussion, I would rate the discussion positive. At first I hope the Mylotter will be happy to it since he/she has a good fame here. Second, I will also know I already responded to this discussion. It is just like a mark. And when I see I already rate the discussion, then I will realize I had responded to it before.

A lot of members appear to have encountered minor glitches during the submission of a response, which appears to be the main culprit that catches people out.

A lot of members add comments to other responses, as do I on occasions. This can be useful if you feel that you have something to add and helps the discussion to develop. We all try to avoid adding more than 1 response, but it can be difficult, especially if responding to an old discussion with sixty or so responses already listed.

i don't think i have every responded twice to the same discussion without realising. though this one is a couple of months old, and i didn't check. but i do sometimes post a comment, and then think of something i forgot and add it a few minutes later.

I have actually responded to discussions as old as 6 years, so if there are a vast number of responses already then it can be difficult to be certain that I have not previously responded.

I have done this a couple of times and it becomes apparent immediately because the user rating does not increase. In each case I discovered that I had made quite similar responses, although the actual words used and approach did vary. I can appreciate what you are referring to because we do tend to vary our opinions over time, so despite that fact that I always try to offer my honest opinion it could change in some cases.

i can imagining it being hard to remember a discussion from 6 years ago. when you eventually realised did you find you have changed your mind much on the subject you were discussing? it might be quite interesting to meet yourself from 6 years ago and see how different your views are. and if you said something similar did you get a different reply?

Hi Asylum. Yes I do believe I have posted on a discussion a time or two. My memory isn't as long as my finger nail......LOL I found though if I am not sure if I posted or not on a discussion I can look at the discussions that I have responded too an easier way to figure that one out. But sometimes I respond because I think of something that I figure should have been said.

I think this was due to system errors / glitches. I know last night I was trying to post. I would hit the post button; then it would not post my reply. I noticed if I went back into the discussion thread again I would see it appear. I can see how some members may have realized that it did not post and just hit the button and reposted, which would have created 2 posts of the exact same posted response or comment. I know that I saw this happen on one of the threads that I had posted the other night in the Q & A thread. Hopefully, the site will get the glitches fixed, and not penalize any members for the accidental double postings. :)

I think this is not good 2 response on single discussion but if first response was negative and after reading discussions once again we think we should change our response then can give but not every time use 2 response for one discussion. Some time admin delete one. Some time due to Internet problem our response goes two times this is happened with me 3 times.

I have had the problem of the internet failing to complete the process, but the response going through regardless. Fortunately I believe that I have always managed to notice this, but it is not always so simple and resposting can be easy to do.

I posted 2 responses on the same discussion by mistake. I thought my first response faded away as I cannot see it on the responses. But when I entered my response, the 2nd one, my first response also appeared. So I have to report my response to be deleted to the admin.

I am impressed that you had the presence of mind to report it to Admin, I doubt if that would have occurred to me. This is something that I must remember for the future in case I inadvertently post twice.

Hi friend, i too did this without my knowledge. If the discussion is old and have lot of replies, it consists a lot of page, if we are interested with it, we will place our reply in the last page, while checking the previous pages, we will find out our previous reply. There is nothing wrong in this kind of activity, as we don't remember about our previous reply as well as opinion change based on the time and situation, so this kind of incidents are quite common in mylot

Yes, it is very difficult to be certain and I cannot guarantee that I have not done so, although I am not aware of any occasion. I expect the majority of members check to be safe, but it is not easy at times.
