This lady came into work today, now she either isnt from this area, or just moved here. We are mainly a white community, about 98% is white. It was an older lady, a middle ages lady and two young kids. The middle age lady was asking questions, while this old lady was being so rude. She kept saying things like hurry up, or no you dont need this yet this other lady was asking about them (not as if we suggested it). So I knew right there, there would be an issue just by her attitude, and behaviour. I answered the questions for the other lady, and ones I couldnt I asked the lady I work with. The two kids were playing with the kittens we have in the store, this lady was screaming at the two kids in the middle of the store saying white people touch those kittens, dont touch them. Now I didnt say anything, just ignored her. But when I went to cash her out, I didnt hear how she spelt her name. The other lady turned away and said how to spell it (as if your in our system you get some discounts, and free products). I simple said pardon I didnt catch that, the older lady starts o a rant over nothing (what I said isnt offensive I just didnt hear her) plus I'm hard of hearing. This lady is screaming at me, to the point customers were walking out. She was all in my face, so I hit the panick button under the counter. The other lady I was working with was downstairs in the bathroom, and this lady was screaming away at how it's because she's black I have an issue with black people (I'm standing there thinking this lady is going to hurt me over nothing). I could care a less what colour your skin is, what culture you are if I dont hear what you say how am I suppose to ring you through. So the cops came and dragged this crazy lady out, and charged her. They also gave her a restraining order, and banned her from the store.

I don't ever recall running into a black person with that kind of an attitude in Canada. I did know someone like that in college in California. He thought I didn't like him because he was black. I didn't like him because he was an idiot. I could care less what color his skin was. My two best friends in college: Paul was part Seneca Indian and Darryl was a black man from New York City. Neither of them liked this guy either. Sorry you had to go through this. Sounds like it got quite out of hand. It's sad that racism and reverse racism are issues that never seem to go away.

May be she has an issue with white people in general, or as a matter of fact every non black person in the area. She just want to get some attention out of nothing from everyone in the store by accusing you a white woman as a 'racist', she think she is doing a great service to all black African slaves that went through hell in confederate states two century ago. It is so unreal some people can even go so low for so far. Sigh!!

First of all, I am glad you have a panic button. You do not get paid enough to put up with that. I hope she abides by the restraining order. What did the middle aged lady think of all of this, and the little ones?

From what you tell us, she`s insane. I don`t think that she is racist or anything like that, But she may have a sort of delirium where she thinks the world is against her for any reason. I`m glad she got a restraining order as she can be really dangerous.

At this time, many people have become educated and more liberal in thinking. Issues of racial discrimination and the black and white issues shouldn't have been brought into current and future generation. I guess some black people had really bad experience and being treated too badly in the past which some had failed to move on. They still think that people discriminate them even though they are actually not. Yet they passed on this kind of mentality to their children and they perception will never come to an end. I guess everyone should be working hand in hand to erase the regretful past and make a better future for each one of us.

I would say you acted accordingly. No person should be treated like that! At least the younger lady was nice to you, right? There was no need for the elderly lady to be screaming at you, sounds like she was the one racist. I have hearing loss too, and some times I have to have people repeat or even spell something out for me, especially names.

This woman clearly does have racial issues and I think that you did the right thing by hitting the panic button. It doesn't matter if you are white, red, purple or black, we are all humans and in this day and age, I don't think that anyone with any kind of different ethnic background should be singled out because of the fact that they had a different background than the next person has. However, this woman clearly thought that everyone was singling her out because she was different. I hope that she learns a lesson by what has happened to her.
