A "Sign"

I was trying to light my cigarette and my lighter won't work. Found another lighter, but once again that lighter won't work and I can't seem to find another lighter. Maybe it's a "sign" I need to quit smoking? Have you ever tried to do something, but "something/ someone" was preventing you from doing it?

I know what you mean. I like to do a little gambling after work. So usually if after 20 bucks, I'm not getting anywhere, I will throw in the towel figuring it is not my day. All in all I am pretty lucky, but not always!

I went gambling one time with a friend of mine. I bought $50 to spend for just gambling. Since it was my birthday, my friend paid for the gas and treated me to a meal. I had spent most of my allotted money, so we decided to eat. After we ate, my friend still wanted to gamble and she taught me a secret that worked. We entered the room, and the first machine was empty. She told me to use that machine, so I did. I won back my $50 and added $25 more, then we left!

Oh, yes! I have set out to do something and the phones rings. When I remember what is was I was doing my daughter calls to me that we have company. It seems like it is always something. I do wish you could quit smoking. It is such a nasty addiction. Hope you can at some point.

I would rather see people eat from stress than smoke. I think you have to want to quit(so many people say they love to smoke. I can't see it)and then pick a day. Be well aware of your quiting and don't let others sabatoge you. Be focused on stopping.

I smoked for over 22 years. Quit a number of times, but always managed to find an excuse to start again! But it wasn't until I had quit while participating in a medical study testing the effectiveness of Chantix, that I had realized how much I actually DIDN'T like it that much. My clothes smelled, my hair smelled, and I had such a nasty aftertaste that it was necessary for me to chew gum constantly! But the second part of the study, I was asked to start smoking again and I was so upset because I had quit! And of course, once I started, it was hard to quit again without Chantix. So that went on about another year when I began getting such an excruciating pain in my jaw every time I smoked! Since I had just had another root canal, that's what I thought it was. I went back to the dentist, they removed the crown, but couldn't find anything wrong. But it was so horrible that I quit cold turkey! Fast forward three years and I just learned that the pain didn't really have anything to do with the smoking; turns out that it may have been a tiny piece of something left over from the root canal! But I'm glad that it forced me to quit a nasty habit-now if my fiance would quit his 2-pack a day habit, I'd be so happy!

Whether it's a sign or not, I would always advice anyone to quit smoking. Not that it would work anyway. Well, there are things that I would plan on buying or doing but when I don't get them or make them happen, I just believe that it is not meant for me or meant to be. I believe that things happen for a reason, so, yes, maybe call it a sign if you want to.

Oh, I truly believe that every thong happens for a reason! Don't know if the reason was to quit smoking or buy new lighters!

It's one or the other, but buying a new lighter seems like the easier path.

Maybe it is a sign. I think once in a while things like this do happen and they are signs that we should keep away or change something..there are times when I was supposed to be someplace and something horrible happened...but due to circumstances I was not there...and darn happy that it worked out that way!

Oh, most definitely! Some times you're gut instincts can prevent you from doing something. Then you later find out that some thing went wrong and you're glad you went with your gut instinct.

interesting. but check up whether they are lighters or something else? anyhow it is good some move you are making towards quitting smoking. Since when you started smoking and who helped you get into smoking--is it due to parents' smoking or friends? have a good day.

Both my parents never smoked,I just picked it up because of friends and thinking it was cool! I know it's not cool but I've been smoking for a while. I have even quit before, but I took the habit up again.

A pleasant day STOUTjodee, With regard to the situation that you have encountered, well, this kind of instances do somehow happens. I guess, in every situation that happens, there is a purpose as to why it was happened. Just like what you have said, who knows that was the real intention.

I think it happens all the time...the phone rings and delays you, then you find out it was a good thing because something bad happened and you would have been there if you hadn't been delayed. Or, maybe, it's just a sign that you need to buy a new lighter.

Well, I can cite as an example of a time I wanted to go to a certain place. Taken buses, the means of transport wrong way bringing in another stop. Destiny wanted the afternoon of the same day, the scene is repeated. I take another bus, but this also wrong the way! I once again come down from the vehicle and went to the place that I wanted to reach, by walking. These strange coincidence you call them "signs"?

I have often had these occasions. lighters are notorius for not 'lighting'! the most annoying is when out and about and everytime i try to light up a gust of wind blows it out. even when you wait till it's calm, as soon as you spark up that lighter....WOOSH! theres that gust of wind again! I keep hoping that the car won't start in the morning so i can take it as a sign not to go to work, but no, that never happens!

yes, I have so much strong feelings that this is a sign to tell you to quit smoking.

Maybe someone is just toying with you. When I was a woodworking apprentice in the Toronto area had a supervisor who was trying to quit smoking. Poor guy was having a nicotine fit and sent the other apprentice to run to the lunch room and fetch his lighter. As the other guy heads off he leans over and tells me that the boss has two lighters and one of them doesn't work. Guess which one got fetched.

Cruel definitely. His facial expression and reaction when the empty lighter arrived was worth the price of admission. He did succeed in kicking the habit by the way.

Hi friend, good to hear about this, surely it is a sign for quitting this habit. It is hard to quit this habit within a day, so reduce your habit gradually in day by day manner and completely give it up in one day. I never encountered this kind of symptoms in my life, if i face it, surely i will give up the thing after continuous failures.
