http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/10/15/12/lucy-liu-doesnt-want-look-little-filipino Tactless of Lucy to say that, because what we say is what we think, and most of the time, what we mean. But she apologized as quickly, when she realized, after she was bombarded with criticism, that her utterance definitely has touches of racism in it. I am Filipino and I like my brown skin. I do not bleach because I don't want to look pale like the Caucasians. Am I a racist, too, in that regard? We Filipinos are a touchy people, because we had been condescended upon in the past. But hey, we had proven our worth, as the black slaves did, and it had taken them two hundred years. If there are references to the Filipinos now, it is because our race has begun to emerge, and our people is now a contending force. I wouldn't want to make a mountain out of a molehill, in this regard. APOLOGY ACCEPTED.

Thank you for the link. It is kind of offending. But since she did not say any bad things about Filipinos other than she does not want to look like one, we should not make such a fuss specially since she alread made an apology.

Thanks to you both, Raine and silentwill, there's too many issues of prime importance for us to dwell too much with such senseless chatter. That's one negative Filipino trait, we make so much fuzz out of non-issue at all. Lucy Liu didn't imply anything condescending, she was just making reference while explaining her physical regimen. We over interpreted what we heard, sigh! Here's what: Dr. June Pagaduan Lopez had just been named in the UN committee versus torture. Can you imagine that? The Filipinos now has a strong voice when it comes to human rights. I don't hear anyone talking about our local doctor though. Kudos to you both, for being broadminded.

Really she said that in the public? It's another discrimination for us as Filipino. Why she set an example the Filipino? We are not the only tan people around Asia. Malaysia and Indonesia also are close to our skin color. In what site your got this news? I want to spank her and won't watch her movies if she really said that to the public.

The offense was there but at least she apologized. What ever her mindset was, she cannot put us down. We have mixes of colors and we are all beautiful.Couldn't be possible that she was actually planning to see a Filipino doctor?

She said she didn't want to be a little Filipino if she was asked if she can get a tan. this happened during her latest interview with David Letterman. sad to know some people still want to put us down in the same light. I don't know what made her say that, would have been understandable if she's being maligned or insulted being called a filipina maid or something. because if she said that out of her mind, then it's trouble.

Well I guess she was not thinking that what she was saying was kind of insulting already. I think it was just the initial reaction when interviewed impromptu. I am glad she realized her mistakes and gave her apologies.

Why do Filipinos think that they are being discrimated whenever they are being mentioned on televisions as bad examples or something said that is not good about Filipinos? We are all humans, and even us Filipinos are discriminating other races too but they are not as sensitive as we have reacted to this kind of issues? Think about it.

Well I guess we are just not use to it I guess. But I am not offended that much since I was not there to witness it and hear it from her. Plus with the apology I guess that is an acceptable and forgivable offense. I think there is nothing wrong if we get offended because we love our own and anything that is said against our own skin and culture should be corrected. It just not need to be reacted on violently of some kind.

Hello toxic life, I use to like and love her as an actres from her shows but some how the respect has gone low because of his statement. well, we are all Asians and we can be distinguished by some one else. that's fine i dont' wanna look her too so much for the high respect! she can enjoy her own color for the rest of her life. they so love picking and putting down filipinos.

On the first place how can she be mistaken for a Filipina, when she isn't as pretty as our Filipina celebrities are or even with us ordinary citizens. Sad, but i do like Lucy because of the Charlie's Angels. But when she said that, i disliked her already. Too late for an apology , because she has already pierced the hearts of the Filipinos.

I know who she will look like if she has darker skin..Pokwang! LOL! It's good she apologized for her comment which, I think is not racist at all because it's true that we have darker skins compared to the Chinese. Please let us forgive Lucy Liu.:)

First of all, her statement didn't really seem racist but I really did have to read it a couple more times. For me it didn't came out as a racism but I did get the point why for some Filipinos, it is. With her sentence, it really does look like it. But sometimes, reading or hearing something is not enough. Sometimes, we should hear or read between the lines. Her statement simply said that she doesn't wanna get darker because she likes how she looks. She probably said that because Filipinos are mixed with chinese races but darker. It implies that she doesn't wanna be dark, not that she doesn't wanna look like a Filipino. Although at some point, her statement could've been better, without mentioning a race. At some point her statement really does sound racist a little. good thing she apologized for it.

I wonder how Americans would react if there was a very internationally famous Filipino who made a comment about not wanting to change color because of not wanting to look like American and then later on apologize for it?

I think you misunderstood what Lucy Liu, said. In the evening show in the America, she says that much better to be like filipino skin...This must be good to be accepted because she too want to be that way!

I think she'd doing it because she think that there are some Filipino, mistakenly misunderstood what she say. That still a wise decision to maintain her image as an actress. As we all know actress and models image is important to them. If their image being destroyed they might not be stay on the business. So, I think Lucy, had the wise decision to do it...

With her remarked, she should definitely be called as a racist! As if she don't look like a Chinese...and she discriminates what a Filipino look like...How pathetic for her to say it...

Sorry to hear that, maybe the tonque is quicker than the brain in some cases. It is not always to insult the other race though, she is probably just wanting to stay true to her own race. Meaning, if she does get a tan she will look like something other than her race. I'm glad she had it in her to apologize either way, sometimes we don't think. We are all human though and have said something we shouldn't have at one time or another that might have gotten misunderstood.

So she said that?! She is putting down Filipinos. Well she doesn't want to be called Filipino and we doesn't want her to be a Filipino either. I think a better public apology she should give, maybe again on David Letterman Show.
