I love to interact on mylot.. A lot times I end up sharing a lot so my discussion and responses are usually long. I like to add as much detail as I can.. This is great to let someone know exactly where you stand on that speific topic.. But I also understand that there is only so much time a person can spend on mylot.. So my question is this; are you more likely to respond to a discussion that is long but very detailed or something short; then you can add to it?? All comments and suggestions are welcome;-)

If a discussion is too long and having lack of punctuation marks and lack of proper paragraphs, I'll mostly stay away from it.. Despite of that, as long as the topics are interesting, I'll be there.

Sweet.. I have been told that sometimes I am a little hard on myself.. I can not help it. When I was in high school I had a grammer class and I got straight AAAs in it.. I try not to judge others on here when I know that they didnt do the punctuation right, or most of their words are spelled wrong.. Sometimes it is hard to take some people serious or cant help thinking that they are just throwing whatever into the discussion.. Not ranked high on my scale..

Cool! Well I do not always have the right punctuation but I have been working on that more since I have come back.. Hope to see you again:-)

What I tried to say is the posts must be easy to understand. Usually punctuation marks and paragraphs would help it a lot.. As for your posts, I can understand it well though ^^

Hi sjvenden, it doesn't matter much to me. If it's long but interesting and something I can respond to I'll take the time to read it and respond. Sometimes my responses are long as well! At times, length is needed to get a point across. Or at least the writer believes it is. But whichever, interest is the main thing for me. Sometimes I find something interesting but have no experience/knowledge with the topic and really don't feel I can add to it. But most likely I've learned something from it. It's a win-win situation for me.

The subject matter does make a difference in the length of the discussion. I love to learn new things all of the time.. It is good to know that even if I do go a little over board and have a long discussion there is still a chance that someone will read it.. ;-) I hope you have a wonderful day

I used to write at length but somehow someone ticked me off for w wbeing long winded. Now I learn how to summerize my texts to make it short so people would not be bored reading my words.

It depends on how you write. If you just beat around the bush and say in 2-3 paragraphs what can be said in just one then it's really better to trim it down. However, if there really is a lot you can cover and condencing them to shorter paragraphs would make it lose some of its meaning or be less understandable then you should just continue.

MyLot is a microcosm of the world at large, and just like that world most of the members have neither the intelligence, nor the attention span, nor the desire, nor the knowledge, nor in many cases a good enough grasp of English to be able to deal with long and or complex discussions. On the other hand there is always a small proportion who simply don't see the point in short, meaningless, inane, often bigoted and unintelligent discussions, so your long ones will be a welcome change for them. I like how you are so direct and straight to the point.. Attention span is one of the major factors I think we all have to compete with; there are so many things that are going on in each of our personal lifes.. In addition to all of the other things that are done online, plus the other things that are going on while the person is surfing mylot.. There are some discussions that I feel were slapped together.. Since there are a lot of people that english is their second language I will give the beneifit of the doubt, go look at their profile and if they are from an english speaking country; and not something that I really really want to write about I will leave at that and go look for another discussion.. Thank you for your honesty ;-)

When I was doing my recent studies (I completed a PhD program 4 years ago) my primary advisor said that my greatest strength as an academic, apart from my grasp of language and my writing skills, is my uncanny knack of seeing straight through an issue to the central core of it. It's simply part of who I am, and in places like MyLot it often doesn't gain me friends. Lash

Congratulations on completing you PhD In my experince in life I would rather have someone totally straight with me versus someone that always has to sugar coat it or side stepping the issue; then ending up blowing up for something really small.. I am glad you are one of my friends!

It depends on the topic or the subject. Sometimes there are topics wherein I post my response short and precise. While there are topics that I post lengthy response to express my thoughts or share an experience to elaborate my response.

Cool.. Have a question for you; when you are looking for a discussion do you every pass on a subject do to the lenght of the original post?

Sometimes too lengthy post made me feel bored, I admit I will pass on those topic. But it depends on my mood as well. Last night I remember responding to a lengthy post because I was hooked while reading to it and I also responded it with a good post (but not too long)

As for me, I really don't care much on the length of the discussion or response. As long as I am interested with the topic or response, I'd read it. In dealing with long ones, I usually read on the first few sentences. Then, that is the time when I will feel interested or not with the topic or response at hand.

I love reading long responses like yours! There's a lot added to make the discussion livelier and can sometimes lead it to different directions from what the owner of the discussion intended to. Of course not all have the patience to read such long responses or even the original post and one may risk others not getting everything you want to say or worse even won't read and respond to you at all.

Yeah. It depends on the topic if it will be appropriate to write long and short responses. And like everyhting we must find balance.

I guess I will have a mixture then... Topics that are simple I can write shorter but the topics that are more complex I will just continue to write the same way... Just will not expect a whole lot of responses.. Oh well like most things in like you have to take the good with the bad

I respond after reading a discussion. If I read one that is long, it gives me a lot of details that I can think about before making a decision. There is nothing wrong with that. If you feel you want to take some time to explain yourself, feel free to do it. There really is someone that will read it. It is just a matter of time. Some people have more of it than others, and may or may not read your discussion right away, but they can always come back to it.

This is true!! I do that all of the time.. With my responsiblities I might have an half an hour here and there untill after my boys go to bed for the night.. Even then there are some nights that I really do not have energy to stay focus and need the extra sleep.. There are some nights I can not sleep so I write untill I can fall asleep

It really depends on what the subject matter is. If it is interesting i will read it whether it is long and involved or very short. I like them short because of the time involved if they are long. I enjoy long responses to my discussions because that usually means they are interested in the subject matter.

Your the first person to comment personally about responing on their discussion that is cool.. On a personal note its kind of hard not to have a longer response on some of your discussions. They were really moved me for what ever the subject was at the time.. I normally will not even comment if the subject is either something I know nothing about, or if its been written extremely poor.. No idea or main focus...

I feel i dont have alot of time on here so when im on here and i open up a discussion that is long i tend to exit out of it because i dont want to read it but to respond rather quickly and keep going with the site since i only have a certain amount of time to be on here. I usually do mylot when im at work so i dont have much time and since we are busy its kind od hard to find the time to get one here. If you start a shorter discussion i would rather answer to those then sit here and read something long and sometimes not worth the time to me.

I can understand the lack of time when you are at work trying to do a couple things at once.. Thank you for your comment. I think it will help some of my topics that could be short and sweet but I wrote more then I had too..

Hey not only you but I can say almost every member here at mylot will love or want to interact with other Mylot members. It is really fun and interesting to interact with each other here, as we can share our views and ideas and can also gather lots of information from other members. Do you know once you are log in here you feel like spending more and more time on the comment other members have posted on our post and also taking part in other members discussion.

My friend Please note the above response of mine is not too small nor too big also. Only when I like the post and think that I can write more about the topic member have posted, I write in detail. Other wise just two to three sentences. Nice discussion you have opened up.

The good thing about mylot is, is that you are the boss and can basically do what you want so if you want to write a long discussion you can. I personally always read a post regardless of how long it is because some one has gone to the trouble of writing it. Im sure this is the same as other people.

sometimes, i feel bad for the discussion-starter when most of the responders only seem to be saying "yes, that's true, you're right, i agree." i really like it when someone explains "how" and "why," or follows sympathy with practical suggestions, or gives examples or incidents (personal, something heard or read, hypothetical, etc) or even presents a different or opposing viewpoint but in a clear and fair manner that you find yourself seeing other layers or angles of the situation.

Some people just lose out; they have one thing in mind and that is it.. Not realizing that Mylot has so much more to offer.. I like to treat others the way I would like to be treated.. I understand that it doesnt always happen that way.. but at least I can be happy with my own work.. And hopefully there is someone else out there like that.. but there is no expectation here.. I just keep writing.. Thank you for your comment ;-)
