If you are to do business abroad, where and what type?

I have a feeling that doing business abroad is more productive than doing business here in the Philippines where I live. I had this idea because in other countries, you may be paid in dollars and you could usually raise your prices in a much bigger way, but I know this is depending on what foreign country we are talking about. So I want to ask you, if you are to put up a business in other countries, which country would you choose to place your business and what type of business would you put up and why?

I honestly have to say that I could not imagine living abroad, let alone starting a business in another country. I feel this way because of the fact that I am only able to speak English and I also couldn't imagine what it would be like to not be able to live close to my friends and family. However, if I had to pick somewhere in the world that I would have to live, I would choose Italy because of the fact that there is so much different culture there.

What if you would live there with your whole family and I know Italians speaks English as well, would you consider it a possibility then? Anyway, come to think about it I myself would rather do business in my own country where I feel more secure and because I too imagine that it could be lonely out there living and doing business in other countries. I guess if I am to have my own business abroad, I would let it be handled by a close friend or relative that lives in that country while I stay in my own country monitoring the business through phone and the internet.

Yes, that is very understandable. Come to think about it, I don't think there are so many people who do business abroad nowadays, but a lot of my countrymen do work abroad but as an employee because they find they earn bigger with the dollars they earn.

Personally the business I do with the jerky could not be done abroad but maybe some of the other stuff could if I wanted to transport my crocheted items all over. I wish I could travel more and keep myself supported with it.

I'm not familiar with the jerky business, can you tell us more about it KrauseHome? I also don't know much about crocheted items. Poor me, my ignorance is beginning to show. LOL

Nice question, really got me thinking! Well I am quite a health fanatic and go to the gym 4 times a week so I would maybe open a gym and leisure complex with health spa, as to the country well it would have to be in Europe, possibly Amsterdam or somewhere in Holland that I have travelled to, I wouldn't want to go to a hot country, I don't like the heat, so anywhere abroad that is cold and speaks English.

To be honest, the gym business is already in the back of my mind and I would bet that would be a good choice because fitness is in demand anywhere. I think it would be just to try to think of some additional service or something unique with your gym, like having a yoga class or some types of martial arts lessons for those interested. This is only my personal idea.

I would choose any country who uses dollars as money exchange. I am telling so because dollars have high exchange rate as we consider with others. I would like to start a good business which would provide me good income and it depends on the demand of the people in the region where I start the business

I agree with that, like for example if Filipinos earns dollars and take it home in the Philippines, that amount he earned in dollars would be worth maybe about 5 times more.

Well I am a newbie and not much I can share but my advise is choose those higher currency countries like USA, Australia... those really potential country because even you go there just to do as a worker(maybe hard), the money you earn must be better than poor country. Like the south east Asia, never choose these because I found all these countries still have long way to go! Process of earning is hard but sometimes good location affect your future so choose those stable and high potential countries. Hope I am not wrong about my comment.

So we all agree that having a business in countries like USA and Australia would be good, but what type of business do you think would be right in that place?

Talking about starting business abroad means that we have enough or a lot of budget. If I have a lot of budget and would like to start a business abroad, I prefer to start it in Singapore. About the type of business, it is about car rent business. Why? As I have ever heard fro my Singaporean friends, it is uncommon that people having car there. They will think twice to have car because the tax is very expensive, and every electronic product including car has its duration of use. So, they don't like to have car. It is why I would like to start a car rent business there, such kind of a car rent which the cars would be placed in any crowded area, in which the cars have sophisticated identity detection scanner, the payment and car key will be using credit card. How do you think about this. Is is a cool business?

It does seem like a cool business to have, Janurmas. Here in my country, people pay big amount of money on car rentals so I could imagine that would really be a big business in a country where many people don't have cars or decides not to have one. I kind of like the idea of having detection scanners. Really cool :)

I had watch some fellow Filipinos working abroad and some of them started their own business there. Usually those Filipinos working are in the open-country like USA, Australia, New Zealand and London. They said that having a business there is not easy because there are so many requirements needed. To answer your question, I would choose to own a business in the USA and I want to own a simple restaurant or maybe a little shop like grocery.

I wonder how many Filipinos are doing good with their business abroad. Yes, I think usually the type of business worth trying abroad would be a restaurant, although I'm sure a bigger capital would be needed for such business. I know Filipinos in America have business there where there are a lot of Filipino community. I guess it would be difficult for Filipinos or anyone from Asia to do business in places like New York, but anything is possible. Anyway, doing business in the USA should be a good idea because America is the land of opportunity and you could think of almost any kind of business and find people there who would be interested about it.

I know garment fabric business is a big one because my father used to have that business in the past. Well I hope you could get enough money to put up your own garment fabric business someday. I think this business is good because people always needs clothes to wear, so there would always be a need for this product and service.
