In life, there are lots of things that we can do to keep up happy. I have started to think about the things that I am doing to make sure that I have a happy life, and I thought that it might be nice for me to share those things with you here today. Please feel free to add your suggestions! -Apologise when you're in the wrong; because nobody likes a bad atmosphere. -Treat people the way that you would like to be treated. -Don't be scared to chase your dreams and reach for the stars. -Always ask questions, and don't accept wrong answers. -Look after your body; you only get one. What do you think you need to do in order to have a happy life?

A simple life is something that a lot of people don't like to do, and I will admit that I have never been able to understand why this is the case. There are so many people out there who are living life in the fast lane and that means that they never get the chance to just sit back, relax, and appreciate all of the things that they have. I am happy as long as I have my family, friends and health, because I know that these are the most important things to have in life, and those who are able to have them are lucky.

Well, I think the reason that many people are living in the fast lane is because they believe that is the only way to have it all in today's society. I agree we do all need to learn to simplify our lives so we can enjoy the good life.

It think that they are blinded by misconceptions about wealth and money and sometimes, life in general, making them uncontented with everything they have. It is common to people to make others' success or achievement as their basis for their own, which I think is wrong. They will never be contented if they do that.

Yes I know of far too many people who make mistakes and then just do nothing about it and carry on making the same mistakes over and over again through the whole of their life. I know that I have done lots of silly things in my time, but I also know that I have made the effort to put them right and learn some very good lessons from them and this is something that I am proud of. If I hadn't learned from them then this would have been a bad thing, but I did so I feel as though my mistakes have contributed something positive to my life instead of them just being a negative thing.

Yes, it is very important to learn from our mistakes. I would add that many times even when we are striving to learn from our mistakes, we will make new mistakes or other mistakes that will lead to repeating mistakes from our past even though we had learned one lesson we still have many more that we must learn in life. I think it is important to not be so hard on ourselves, and to see mistakes as part of the learning process. Just because I try something different there could still be a million other variables that I had not anticipated that could lead me to make or even repeat a previous mistake that I had striven to prevent from a lesson that I have learned in the past.

Hi GemmaR, These are great tips and certainly would bring us anyone a happy life - perhaps a long one as well. Blessings.

I think that these tips would be able to make your life longer as well as happy. There are so many people lately who do things which will impact negatively on their life expectancy and this is a shame because it is starting to mean that they wouldn't be able to live for as long as they might like. This would be a shame as it may stop you from spending time with your children and grandchildren if you weren't able to live for long enough to see them grow up. So being happy and healthy would almost certainly be helpful with this.

GemmaR, well said, I would add that a secret to a happy life is taking good care of yourself, pampering yourself, and taking good care of your own health, so you can truly enjoy life.

Great idea for a discussion! I would add the following. 1) Find reasons to laugh and smile 2) Do something that you really enjoy at least once a week 3) Follow your heart - find something that you are passionate about in life 4) Realize that with experience comes age, with age we gain wisdom 5) Learn that you can respect people even if you disagree with them 6) Learn to let go of the past, so you can enjoy the future. 7) Learn that the only person you can control is yourself 8) Have faith that the sun will rise, and tomorrow will bring in new day of wonderful possibilities. 9) Realize to differentiate between the things that you can change in your life, and those that you cannot change learn to accept.

I think that being able to smile is something that everyone needs to be able to do. One of the shocking things about smiling is that you don't even have to feel happy to do it. You can fake a smile and then it will eventually make you feel happier, and I think that this is a wonderful thing. Your heart is something that you really should follow as well. I can't even count the amount of times that I have done things that I didn't really want to because of the fact that I decided to follow my head instead of my heart, so that is certainly something that I would like to change in the future.

I would challenge that last about race and color because we are the same we have just adapted to our environments that is the anthropological basis of human life. We are all one race just over time people in different geographic regions of adapted to the environments which have given people various skin tone to survive in their given environment.

I would like to answer your question with a Chinese saying. "A contented mind is a perpetual feast." It means that if you do not have that much desires and high standards for yourself, you will be happy. You can try this if you are bothered by your desires that you can not accomplish.
@GemmaR (8517)

Yes I am the kind of person who doesn't have too many desires in life, and I honestly believe that I am a lot happier because of this fact. I have some friends who are never happy with the things that they want, and they are always after something more than the things that they have been able to get. I think that it is very sad in a way because I would hate to have to always be looking to the next thing that I was aiming for rather than just being able to be happy and contented with the way that I was living my own life.

Well, magicchou, I may be confused on the translation; though, I know many times it is my high expectations that lead to disappointments rather than a happy life. Therefore does the proverb mean more to accept and be content rather than having higher standards that challenge the status quo of life?

Several great tips posted! yeah you are right. Let me just add here one thing very important for all of us. It should not be excluded in our day to day life, this is contentment. Contentment is a value.

It is interesting that you pick contentment because I think that is a value that we seldom see in American society. I mean we are always been told to strive for more. After all, the culture is to chase the American dream. It is like we are always saying do not be content with what you have always want more. It is funny even with a master's level education there are days that I ponder should I really be content with a master's degree or should I strive for a doctorate degree. Personally, there is so much more that I want in life right now, but in a society that tells us to always keep striving for more, and surrounded with superiors that have doctorate degrees sometimes you just wonder. Is the education, and background I have enough? Right now, I am chosing to be content with my level of education.
@GemmaR (8517)

I agree that being content with what you have is something that is very important indeed. I don't think that there are enough people who are just happy with what they've got, and we just seem to always want something that is a little bit more from our lives. We should think about those people who don't have as much as we do, and remember how lucky we are to have everything that we have been given in our lives. I know that I am very content at the moment, and I am happy being that way because I think that it is healthy.

I love that one about simplicity and being frugal. I agree people need to have a purpose to make their lives fulfilling. It is good to delay gratication to a point, but if we delay it too long then we sometimes feel deprived.

gemme for me its to stop procrastinating and get my bloodwork done and then make that appt. with Dr.Duckor and have the damned colonoscopy done. those three things are taunting me and making me feel bad so once whey are done I will be happier again, I hate all the damned doctoring and would rather be my klotting.

Procrastination is something that I think a lot of people struggle with, and having just finished a degree it is something that I am completely knowledgable. One of the things that you have to try to do is to make sure that you have made a plan of when you are going to get your work done, and then you would be able to have some time for yourself as well. Procrastinating means that a small task can span across the entire day whereas if you just did it in the beginning then you would be able to do something that you enjoy for the rest of the day.

Though I do think that all of the tips that you've shared on here are great tips, I honestly think that you've neglected to mention the most important thing that we all need to do in able to be able to have happy lives. To me, the most important thing that we can do in order to have a happy life is to always try to take at least a little bit of time out in every day to do something that you really enjoy doing. It is a simple thing, but it is also something that many people do forget about doing.

Yes you're very right. If the only thing that we do every day is work then we're never going to be able to make ourselves happy in the way that we might want to. One of the things that I always do is make sure that I have the time to read a book for at least one hour per day, because I love relaxing in this way. I know that it might be a little bit harder for you to do this if you have children, which is why I am absolutely making the most of having this time on my own while I am able to as I don't have children yet.

Everyone just wanna enjoy for their life,they have many ways for happy life. 1. Positive thinking in every conditions and situations 2. Less your anger with big smile 3. Far too many people waste their time on things that don't really matter, and things that prove to be not useful in the slightest to everyday life. If they stopped doing this then they would be able to spend a lot more time on the things that they like doing instead. Helping other people is important in your life, because it means that the more you do for other people the more they will do for you if you should need them to. Plus it makes you feel very good knowing that you have done something that has brought happiness to other people's lives.
