Do you believe that the moon was once a part of the Earth?

Scientists have recently proposed that the moon came from our planet a long time ago. They believed that a meteorite hit Earth eons ago and it resulted in dust whirling everywhere. As we all know this is when moons, planets, stars are created. It is believed that our moon was once a part of Earth because the moon's composition is exactly like that of our planet. Do you believe this is true? Or is it even possible?

According to Wikipedia, "There have been several hypotheses for its origin in the past, the current most widely accepted explanation is that the Moon formed from the debris left over after a giant impact between Earth and a Mars-sized body."

That was the idea i was referring to in my discussion. That goes to show that the moon is indeed livable. Maybe someday we will live there.

It's not livable. It doesn't have atmosphere nor water.

zeedo is right. The moon has practically no atmosphere so it can't hold oxygen to support life. Yes, I believe that someday in the near future mankind can find ways to colonized the moon. Have a nice night ahead of us. Cheers!

Scientists proposed all kinds of false things throughout history, and continue to do so. No I will not believe that.

I have never called anyone stupid on this or any other site. Your comment on the other hand is more than a bit confrontational. de omnibus dubitandum

it is possible, i believe we are all part of one big huge universe and that we only need to know and open our hearts to accepting what our eyes can offer us.

Why does it matter whether I believe that? Does it make it more- or less-true?

yes, sounds logical to me. I think it would be be very strange if the Moon had been just ''captured'' by Earth's gravity without actually touching it as I would consider such an event highly unlikely.

Hi friend, i don't think moon is a part of earth, since it is far away from the earth. Our scientists invented a lot of things and prove it with their efforts, we can believe the things which is having a proof

It is far more like that the moon was a part of the same mass as the earth prior to the initial cooling. Most of the planets are believed to be parts of the Sun that have separated and cooled over millions of years, so the moon would be part of the same matter that solidified into the Earth rather than separated later. The approximate spherical shape of the moon supports this.

Yes, it could be true! Wouldn't it be exciting if the moon is just part of our Earth?

This is a plausible theory, considering the fact that both the Earth and moon have the same composition. We are all aware that meteors hit our planet daily. And there have been theories that mountain-sized meteors had indeed hit our planet in the past. Let's hope that there would be further evidence to support this theory. Learning more about how planets and satellites were created and how they ceased to exist could really help us preserve our own Earth.

These days the technology is very much improved. Many unknown facts are being in to action by this development. Without any proper research scientists will not inform the world about anything,so i thing as you said may be it's true that once Moon was a part of earth...Thanks for making us to know this interesting information....Good luck.
