Yesterday around 12:30 my bosses left for the day and who knows what time they arrived back. I work for a husband and wife that own a construction company and i work out of their house. Today is the husbands birthday so he decided that he would not work today and his wife is sick so yesterday from 12:30 to 4:30 i worked by myself and today all day i will be working by myself. I got all the guys out on their jobs and got them going this morning and i hope it all works out good. Im able to handle alot on my plate and am able to mulittask and get things done when needed. Today i actually have alot of filing to do and then in about an hour i will leave and trasnfer the phones to my cell phone and go to the post office and the bank. Would you like working by yourself or do you think i should be getting a raise because of allthe stuff i do? Now tommorrow i have to go clean a house and wait on an inspector to show up to finalize a permit that we need to get done. Its work and i hope the wife isnt going to be sick tommorrow.

It depends on the nature of your job. Like, if you are working in a customer service oriented company where fast-track multitasking while under pressure is a common scenario, definitely working alone is not recommended. Because there are limitations that are impossible to be performed by just lone employee. If you are working in company, where you are assigned with clerical work and you believe you can perform your job without further assistance, working by yourself is a pleasure. There will no boss lurking behind your back waiting for to commit error. You can do your task without thinking about the pressure. For me, I work effectively when I'm alone, though I'm working in a higher-stress job.During the time that I was alone working, I found that I can take time to plan about how will I tackle the tasks, i have time to review and evaluate my actions regarding how did i work through the task and i push myself finish all the tasks.Concentration is better when I'm alone at work. When you are working alone, you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself to do your own thinking and be independent. The bottom line is, whatever your work scenario is you must give your best at work. Try to do your job as effectively as you could. Trust yourself to do better and be better everyday at work.

When holidays arrive, my wife would go to her fathers house with my little son. I would let them go because I think my wife did a lot the whole household works and she needs a relax. In my home I would stay alone. And I myself would cook, wash and sweep the whole house. And the rest of the time I try mylotting. As no distractions are around me, I would feel that I am doing all meritorious postings. And as I have no chance to blame for any bad to others I try my best to do things neatly. I become able to do well as well.

Before you agreed to take the job, you should've asked for specific job description. If there's something like that stated in a contract, then, you can probably talk to them about giving you bonus for doing extra tasks not related to your job position. Am not sure what specifically you do for them. But, like I said, if it's not in the job description, you can either just take extra mile or politely ask them if it's with extra pay. It won't hurt to do extra work for them every now and then. But, if it becomes a regular thing and starts eating your time and draining you, it's not wrong to express to them your thoughts. About the issue of working by myself...I think I rather want that than to be surrounded by lotsa other people who do nothing but gossip, criticize and lazy around when the boss is out. Well, this is my personality. If you're an outgoing person, it's much better not to take a job that will require you to be alone most of the time. ^_^

i work by myself though i have my QMS auditors based on their respective areas in the organization. i love to work alone in my own office. i think and believe that working with other people in a room has its pros and cons though. if you think it's time to ask for a raise then go!

I think you are doing a great job that's why they let you alone handle the business when they out. I believe you definitely deserve a raise but of course it will depend on your boss. Keep up the good work and your efficiency will surely be rewarded. Cheers and Happy mylotting!

Sometimes not every second of the works is always fun. sometimes we will be faced with the heavier work , but sometimes we also get a lighter work. I think its help you to be patient first , but if such conditions persist it helps vent politely to your boss.

Working by myself is a dream to me! I work better alone and unaided, I am not a team player and I keep myself to myself, without anyone looking over my shoulder or listening to colleagues gossip or laze around. I work hard, I am systematic and methodical in my approach to work, I can prioritize and multi-skill. I remember having my own office when I was younger it was great. You can get so much more work done when you are not interrupted.

Depends on what your job description normally states, but I think one or two days working alone does not actually win for a raise, however, a bonus would really be great, and if I was your boss, I would definitely give you the bonus you deserve. I believe that this should be done so that employees will be motivated and remain loyal to their job.

I quite like being on my own when I have got a lot of work to do.I find that I am much more productive when I don't have any distractions. On Sunday I had our student flat to myself as everyone had either gone home for the weekend or had gone to the theme park for the day out.The peace and quiet allowed me to get a lot of my university assignment completed which is something I don't need to worry about that for a couple of weeks.

Sounds like a great job that you have and it seems that your employers view you as the dependable person to get the job done, which is always a great sign. It could definitely mean promotion, a raise or higher benefits if the job is well done. I definitely wouldn't let my achievement go overlooked! If they have faith in you, then you should definitely have faith in yourself!

No boss breathing down your neck, watching every move you make, telling you should do the stuff he should be doing? Oh, most definitely I'd rather work by myself and most of the jobs I have. But, it also means more responsibility. Of course, with more responsibility, if not more pay at least a bonus would be appreciated!

I work alone everyday here, And I love it. I own my own internet cafe and people come in during the day for copies and to rent pc time. I love the fact that I dont have to answer to a boss.
