Why isn't my heat not working?

I have noticed the last few times I have had to put the heat on in my car, it's slow coming on. It can be on high and it doesn't feel like any heat coming out. The other day, it smelt kind of like a burning smell, and I told my Dad and he said he doesn't know. I don't want to pay a mechanic until I know what's wrong since that costs way more money than I will every pay.

I don't know. If your Dad doesn't know and you don't know anyone else who can tell you, you may have to take it to a mechanic. Not having heat can be dangerous if you drive in any kind of bad weather like snow or cold weather because you won't have a defroster.

It was the thermostat aand carbon air filter that needed to replaced. It was $130.00 to replace and luckily I had the extra money. My Dad ended up doing it for me.

Good! It could have been a lot worse.

This has happened with friends of mine in the past but I just can't remember why it had stopped working. From what I remember it wasn't too bad to get fixed though, and the one responder's thinking that it could be the air filter may be right. You could always call an auto part's store and ask them their advice on it.. Afterall advice is free, if they are willing to give it.

You are absolutely right about going to a parts house and asking for their advice. The reason that I said to actually go to the store though instead of just calling them is because if they aren't able to give advice right off the top of their head, there are several stores where the employees are willing to go out to the car and give the car a quick looksy to see if they might be able to tell what is wrong by looking at it quickly.

If you could figure out what is wrong with it and could do the repairing work yourself, it would save some money for the repair. I am not a good repairer, so if something wrong happens to the stuff I need to use, I will ask my colleagues who know better than me for help. But if I could fix it myself, that is a different story. Take care and have a good day.

There are a couple things that could be wrong... But here is a cheap easy fix that you would be able to do on your own.. Check the air filter on your car.. It might be plugged up.. You can get a new one at most auto parts stores.. They usually are no more then 10 dollars, and if you do not trust yourself to do it.. If you go to Auto Zone, O Rellys, or other stores like that.. They usually are willing to replace it for you for nothing..
