Today is Sarat-Purnima and Lakshmi Puja

India
October 29, 2012 12:17am CST
I will perform Lakshmi Puja today, Lakshmi is our Hindu Goddess who gives us wealth and prosperity; I worship her daily; but today is special. At night I will prepare ‘kheer’ by boiling white ‘arua’ scented rice in thick sweetened milk; this I will keep in an open pot and hang on a wire on roof top, such that the rays from FULL-MOON falls over it. It is supposed that ‘amrit’ (nectar) will fall on it from heaven; this is once in a year only; this we will be given to all members in the family and to neighbors too. It is just faith hence sharing. Any such festival that you observe and feel blessed? Please share your valued opinion and comments. Thanks in advance. Kalyani October 29, 2012. Nectar, faith, Lakshmi, hindu

Dear maa, I didn’t know about this celebration. Thank you for sharing this information. I missed that sweet kheer. Anyway I am happy to inform that I attended a pooja yesterday conducted by two organizations. The pooja held on a school ground and only ladies (mothers) are attended and presented in the poja ground. Goddess Laskhi worshiped there and finally there was a ‘naari pooja’ too. The ladies who participated in the event worshiped each other by imagining they are worshipping the Goddess and gifted each other a set saree, which provide by the organization to all participants as ‘prasadam’. The pooja was really a nice experience to all of us.

Yes I have seen the Sharat-purnima. Its heavely and my pleasure of being under that full moon got ovewhelmed. I did not wanted to sleep. Rather I wanted to keep gazing at the brightest moon and enjoyed it the whole night. But with the deepening of night I felt sleepy and went assleep. Yes Laksmi puja is observed in my country too. And its a great festival. Wish if I would be near your house I would go to you to fetch the Prasad with was made of arromatic rice and condensed milk being shined(nectered) of by the moon. Stay blessed.

Lakshmi Puja is an auspicious festival for the Hindu religion. On this day the women used to fast for the whole day and only eats fruits etc. In the evening after the puja finishes they distribute 'prasad'. Lakshmi is the Goddess of Wealth. So it is one of the most important festival for the people of India.
