Teddy bear hanged at car exhaust - Teddy bear being hanged below the car near the exhaust.

On my way to work this morning, there was a black car in front of me. There was nothing special about it until i saw a small teddy bear hanging by its neck at the back of this car, near the exhaust pipe. Recently there are quite many people hanging the teddy bears like that behind their cars. I felt really weird, kept wondering why do they treat those little teddy bears like that? It is like the teddies are being hanged for certain reasons. Previously, i thought it was some kind of gangster group mark. But later, i found out that more and more cars following that trend, and the drivers don't look like gangsters. My husband said these drivers usually drive their cars to Thailand, but there are a lot of road accidents happening there. So by hanging the teddy bear below the car boot, it will avoid the "ghosts" from disturbing you to avoid the road accidents, as the "ghosts" will play with the teddy bears instead. Hanging the teddies like that looks scary and unpleasant to me, and i don't like the way it is. How about you? Have you come across such thing? What comment do you have on this? Do share your thoughts.

I've never seen or heard of such. It seems kind if silly to me. The notion that 'ghosts' cause accidents and the teddy bear orotects the driver? To me the teddy could cause a driver to be distracted and that could cause an accident.

hi PointlessQuestions and joycseer, you are right! the driver could cause other people (especially the car right behind his/her car) on the road to face the possibility of accident. yesterday, when i saw one of the car hanging a stuffed toy behind the car, i drove nearer and followed closely behind his car just to capture a picture of it. i uploaded it here in mylot under the comment to the respondent before you. so you can guess how dangerous for me to drive and at the same time focus to capture the stuffed toy behind his car, rather than focus driving on the road. i was being distracted and that could cause an accident!

Hi, yes it does look silly on one hand. Haha.. You mean the driver following behind the car that hang teddy? That means the driver causes other people on the road to face possibility of accident. :O This is a dangerous distraction! Let's call the police! He he he... Just kidding. But, you are right in your concern, that's for sure. :-)

Hi victorywp, it is good that you know is dangerous to drive so closely to another car. Well, i should say this is your curiosity about the thing hanging behind the driver's car. I am very much thankful to your sharing and even uploaded the picture to us. However, please take care of your safety on the road, and other drivers' safety on the road too. Otherwise, i would feel guilty that it was due to my post that you went to capture the picture just to upload to us for sharing here.

So it's like avoiding an accident cause by ghost. It's a belief, but why teddy bear - why not other stuffed toys? Anyway, whatever stuffed toy it is- it looks like weird and somehow funny to see a stuffed toy hanging that way.

hanging stuffed toy - stuffed toy being hanged behind the car
hi jaiho2009 and joycseer, i think not only teddy bear being used because i saw many other drivers used other type of stuffed toys too. yesterday i managed to capture the picture of one car who hanged other type of stuffed toy. please forgive me as the picture was kind of blur... because i captured it while both of us are driving, i was following closely behind his car! yeah, it's dangerous...

Hi Hatley, thanks for your understanding. Yes, hanging a bear like that looks eerie and uncomfortable to me. That is true, it may not be practice by the westerns, maybe this is one of the Asian country's belief.

So people are hanging these Teddy bears thinking that ghosts will play with them and not bother the drivers? Interesting. I would think it would be creepy to see one car after another.

That is probably the weirdest thing I have heard in a long time.

Yeap, that is their belief. I am not sure how true it is. It was said that the ghosts would disturb them during their driving and cause them to meet an accident. Many drivers met accidents while driving there. So by hanging the teddy bear below the car boot will shift the focus to the bear instead of the driver. Many teddy bears are not only hanged below the car boot, some bears even had its legs dragging on the road while the car moves. It's like the teddy is not only had its neck hanged, but also it's body dragged all along the way. It looks cruel and creepy. But regardless how i feel, it is the people's belief and choice to choose.

This is creepy. It is superstition for them. I'd never heard of such a thing in my life. I had never seen it either. There are all kinds of superstitions in the world, this is the one where you are. If it helps them feel better there is no harm in it, right?

Oh I see. I hope someone has another idea if it was from the news. At times news can skewer things to fit the situtation and perhaps it is not true.

Yes, it is creepy. It may be superstition for them, i don't know the true story. The story above was known through news happening in my country. That is why i try to find out what is the real reason behind it and wonder if anyone here at myLot knows about it. =)

I've never seen this, and to be honest I find it creepy that way. I like teddies and when I imagined how it looks like (well there's a picture so I don't have to imagine too hard, lol) I'm not sure if it breaks my heart or it gives me the creeps. But then, I am not too superstitious but if this is the belief of those people, then I respect it.

Another teddy hanged - Teddy bear hanged by the rope
Yes, it's creepy. But i don't know whether if the saying is true or there are other meanings behind it. So, i am trying to find out whether anyone knows about it and why do they do it so... =) It is something very different and unusual. At my working place, the canteen people hanged a teddy bear in front of the cashier. Each time when i go to pay for my meals, i will see that teddy above me. @.@

Oh I forgot to mention, we do have some mini teddy bears and other stuffed animals on top of the back seat of our car but they are there mostly for decorations and also something to cuddle during long drives. But they're there just for that, no other beliefs or what not.

Personally from someone who has collected teddy bears over the yr, this is eerie. There is no way I could do it. I can understand scaring off spirits like this but use cheap bears if they are going to do this, and glad that they have never wanted to do something like this here.

Hi KrauseHome, yes..it is eerie. Sometimes driving on the road, you see people hanging the teddy's at the bottom of the trunk dragging the teddy as they drive on the road. Some hang the teddy via its neck at the bottom of the trunk. It is really distracting to the drivers on the road. But still i hope is nothing bad, as some mentioned it may be their belief to do so. Some people are forced to use this kind of method when they couldn't find any other ways to help them distract or chase the spirits away.

We have this cartoon cat here in the USA named Garfield. In fact, he was created by an Indiana resident named Jim Davis. I've seen cars where the trunk is shut and what's supposed to be his tail is hanging out--as if the door of the trunk closed before he got all the way in. This is the first I've heard about hanging teddy bears, however.

Hi AJ1952Chats, really?? In the US, people hang Garfield's tail hanging out of the trunk? What is the purpose of them doing so? This is really something new to me too, i have never heard about Garfield's tail hanging out of the closed trunk...quite a pain to me.

That is certainly a unique reasoning. I guess like you I'd wonder why they are doing that to an innocent toy unless it was a symbol of hopefully something good instead of bad (as you had mentioned gang related).

Hi 3SnuggleBunnies, yes it is really something odd and different to me. I hope is just me thinking too much regarding gang related. I suppose is a kind of belief of other country's religion. Till now, there are still no facts to prove this matter...all are just guessing and hearing from others about chasing the road ghosts away.

I've never heard of that. I guess people are more and more superstitious. I guess if they want to hang a black teddy bear from the back of their car they should have a cross hanging from their rear view mirror, best to keep the whole inside of the car safe and not just the back of it.

Hi gitfiddleplayer, thanks for your suggestion. Yup, this is something different to me too. But since this is their belief, i would just respect it. More people are looking for security, as you know the world situation today is getting worst. Much crime is happening everywhere, robberies, murders, thefts, rapist, kidnappers, and many more. News after news continuously aired on television. Not only crimes are harmful, now we have calamities everywhere. How i wish the the world can be a better place for people to live it. But, i know these are not within my control. Anyhow, i still feel blessed and thankful for the Lord's presence is always with us no matter where we are. =)

People do strange things. I like teddy bears and I don't understand why anyone would possibly want to hang them. I do however think its at least slightly better then the last trend I saw in the states a few years ago. They would sell what looked like certain parts of the male anatomy at stores and people were actually hanging them on the back of their cars just like that bear is hanging. Hopefully the trend passes soon. Besides unless they're plastic I'd imagine the Teddy bear would look kinda nasty pretty quick.

Hi Sindelle, thanks for your sharing on the trend in the states. That is something unknown to me...Hope it will pass. Well, basically the teddy bears hanged are fluffy cotton. So, i am sure it gets dirty quickly.
