I feel like abandoning my blogs

I (try to) maintain two blogs - one is on bollywood and the other is on technology. I however feel that in spite of taking back breaking efforts, they are not being paid for. I earn too little as compared to what my input is. My bollywood blog is more than 2 years old but the problem is that I never get enough hits as what a 2 year old blog should get. I now have started to feel like abandoning the blogs. I use the latest news and the best of the keywords I can but still no use. On the contrary, my total daily hits are falling like anything. I feel gloomy when I think of all this . I know there is a bad patch for everyone in every field. What should I do. Please help me.

Hi Abhi Feeling same here.. I had stop posting on my blog in past and now started again since few months.. But still its not getting that much views what I have thought.. And of course earning is not that big. I guess I have eared more with posting them on some article writing sites. I am getting around 200 views daily, which is not earning that much for me. By the way how many views you are getting for now.

Wow.. That's lots of views.. And still you are saying that you aren't making more money.. Well this is quite discouraging.. I mean even if somehow I reached to your level its still not that worthy.. That's what it clear means. Now, I have to rethink about my blog activity.. I can post all those blog articles on EC and Wikinut, even they will make more money instead of my blog.

I feel like abandoning my b logs too at livejournal and wordpress too. I blog because I like writing a lot but I can do my love for writing here in myLot and earn at the same time! I do not know that you can earn in blogging? Hmmmm, well, I will just stick here in myLot where payments are guaranteed. :)

There are many people like us who feel the same way. And I totally agree with what you say - the earnings in mylot are guaranteed. So, the time used here is not wasted. One is sure of one thing that the activity is certainly going to be paid. So, that's great observation, I see.

Well, you got paid by mylot? Congrats. I have also been paid 3-4 times and it's a great feeling to be paid for the efforts you take.

Publishing is usually a zero-sum game. The more popular publications will get the bulk of the readers while the rest starve for readership. In my opinion, blogs should be aggregated to form a bigger publication. And bloggers should look at themselves as columnists in newspapers or magazines. Monetizing the individual blogs now become a much simpler problem of getting readers from one part of the publication to the other. As it is right now, most bloggers are competing with each other when they are suppose to be working together as part of a bigger organization.

I get what you say. But I have to ask you which publications were you talking about. It would be great if you mention them in the post here so that I will know if I am trekking on the right path. By the way, you are right. There should't be any competition between the bloggers. That won't help anyone. If like-minded bloggers with similar niche some together, they can help in increasing the views of the other bloggers as well. Overall it will benefit everyone in the circle.

As you said, I just have got a domain. But accommodating several types of blogs - you mean under one blog (domain) there will be sub-domains and each sub-domain will cater to various topics? Is this what you mean? If that's the case, then it will be like a news channel that caters to various niches. But I will myself say that it need not be something like a news based site as you can have evergreen content in the sites. But building a group is extremely difficult. I don't understand why bloggers tend to be non-operational when it comes to linking or backlinking. No one, it seems is ready to put a backlink on their web site. By the way, I liked your idea of having Amazon affiliation in the site. That's a good ploy. Do you have blogs on technology? I an maintaining one myself.

My idea of an online publication is something like a specialty magazine. It will have a single news section, but it's not associated with just one person. The major sections will be publishing feature articles or stories and will be managed by several people. And of course, there are dedicated columns or blogs managed by one person (with or without partners). These are accessible from the major sections of the publication so each blog will have incoming links with high PR. I know it's difficult to build a group even when talking to people you know. But that is where the innovative opportunity is found. My technical/technology publication is www.programmers.org.ph (Freelance Brigade Journal) where I plan to discuss everything about software engineering or computer programming using most popular programming languages. It is still under construction, of course. Right now, I'm working on www.bloggers.org.ph (Blogger Brigade Journal) first.

Blog and website has long term benefits, and they will come in the mean time. So it is not a good idea to delete them.

I never used the word 'delete' for my blogs. I just don't want to update them, that's it. I meant to say that it would be better to leave them as they are and not 'waste' my time there anymore.

Yes, there are other benefits to blogging in addition to the income. For some, a blog can be an online portfolio to improve someone's credentials. Since I am a programmer, I see my blog as a kind of online calling card or an online brochure. Of course, I'm interested in making money from my blogs. This is still an ongoing project so I'm still working on it.

I have always believed that a blog can be a mirror of someone's work. That is why I never will delete any of them. As a matter of fact, when I was active on bidding sites, I won a couple of bids just due to my blogs. I was asked if I could write a movie news. And I gave the person my blog address. He had the entire blog to check out and I won the bid easily. So, I know the importance of keeping the blogs live.

If writing blogs is really your passion, I would say give it a few more months by researching more ways to increase it's traffic and if it fails then maybe just use it as a hobby. I don't know if you have to pay something for maintaining blogs just like a website but as far as I know, all blogs I have come across with are free...unless you pay for some service that makes your blog more beautiful and presentable, which I think you do.

The reason the information you are providing is exciting to the reader. If your count is dropping means you need to work to improve. I am blogging from last three years, and i seen positive change in my blog hits count, more so i get lot of queries of all my readers, they keep sending queries and appreciate my work. Daily posting and providing latest news and updates adding good images using nice blog template connecting with your readers Its about how passionate you work for your blog that shows the results.

Hey Life, you have taken my life here with the very first post on mylot But I would strongly like to disagree with you. I am not providing any sort of information that would make my readers bored. I haven't changed myself for the past 2 years since I started with that blog. I have been working in the same way as I used to. If you take a look at my blog, you will find that - I have been posting daily (with only exception in emergency conditions or when I was unwell, but my off days haven't been more than 2 on the trot) Secondly, all the news pieces in my blog are the latest ones with updates. I do use images from the public domain with due credit to the site, etc. What more should I do to connect with my readers. I really don't know that. As far as my passion is concerned, there is no doubt that I am passionate. Well, that's only what I can say.

Right Cutie. What most people should exercise is patience. I have met some people online, who were cursing the sites and the platforms they were using just because they weren't earning anything. And would you ask how much time and effort they put in? Well, not even a month's time and just a handful of articles. This is so small considering the efforts and time invested is so huge. It indeed take an era to get the blog set on the path.
