This is the advice that my friend gave me and it has worked very well for her so far. She said that because she has connected coffee with smoking, she decided to change her habit and drink tea, in order to stop thinking about having a cigarette! I am going to try it onw of those days. I like tea and I think it's a good alternative, although I am a coffee lover and I am not sure if I will be able to stay away from my favourite beverage! At least tea is going to keep me warm in the winter and I will be able to try different tastes and have something different than usual! What do you think, can this actually work?

I don't like being lectured either! Even if we know that this habit is bad, the decision needs to be personal and determination is what can give more chances for someone who wants to quit. Every person works differently but I guess that a complete change of habits will help. For example if your father has combined this time of the day with smoking and tea, he should proably do something else at this time of the day, or watch it from somewhere else, a new environment that's smoking free.

I knew someone else who did that. I haven't seen him in many years, but last I heard he was doing okay - and I don't think he would be if he hadn't stopped smoking.

That's good news! I guess it worked for your old friend! My friend didn't manage to stay faithful to her effort but she is trying!

This is a good idea, the replacement of coffee to tea is beneficial to clean up the systems. It will take time to stop smoking, but with a great determination it is possible. Good day!

Diffenet kinds of tea can help us with different health problems! The one that has to do with smoking though is probably because of the mind correlation of smoking with drinking coffee. If we change to another beverage we might not think about smoking with it. And at the same time we will also get the benefits of drinking tea!

It really depends on the person. I'm not a smoker, but I love coffee and I love my tea. Tea can help with a lot of benefits...soothes the soul, it could help you sleep, lose weight, maybe you can stop smoking with tea. Check out some of your health food stores in your area.

When I was in UK I loved the different varieties of tea that were available! Here I don't have so many options but I can still find some flavours that I like, besides the usual ones. It has many benefits indeed and I might try it to see if my friend is right!

Sometimes we do have to disassociate ourselves from a bad habit. There is nothing wrong with coffee but if you always have a smoke with a cup of coffee and you want to stop smoking, then perhaps it would work to be disconnected to anything that you relate to smoking. Try loose leaf tea, get some good quality tea. I would suggest trying chai tea, it has a good spicy flavor. Tea is healthy, so if you are strong about staying healthy, then it can indeed work.

It's probably about the mind and the associations as you said. Smoking is a bad habit but we become more addicted to it when we connect it with various moments of our every day life, like drinking coffee,.or the taste of our favourite coffee! Thanks for the suggestions, I will try it!

Drinking tea could be much better but she needs to be sure that she won't exceed more than 4 cups in a day as it may be turn out to be unhealthy, too. Check on this site:http://www.articlesbase.com/nutrition-articles/harmful-effects-of-drinking-excessive-tea-565729.html

Thank you for the article! There should always be a limit with everything, it is the same with tea and coffe! She didn't manage to stop smoking at the end but she did change her habits for a while!
