I have till today not been able to figure out which discussions make it to the top discussions of the day. For the last couple of hours I have been seeing one discussion there that has just one response about ten hours after it was started. There have been so many new discussions after that with many responses. Can someone enlighten me as to how is it decided as to which discussions are the top discussions of the day.

Hi mayka!
Nice to see you back on mylot after a log gap.
I simply have no idea about it. It may be selected by an automatic system, as is done in case of 'mylot digest' (if you have subscribed for it). You could see and check if any of the 'top discussions' invokes interest and you could respond else do not break your head on the point - how these are selected.

Yes its nice to be back here after a long time. Hope to be regular here now. Started a few discussions already and was happy to see all of them in the hot discussions list. The mylot digest sends you discussions of your interest. Have quite a lot of notifications pending in my inbox just now to respond to. Will check the other discussions later.

I've also noticed that a top discussion may have only one response but then there's a back and forth conversation between the responder and the OP so I guess that would constitute it being a top discussion. I can only guess. The actual method of choosing the top discussion is as mysterious as how the earnings at myLot is calculated.

Discussion with "only one response but then there's a back and forth conversation between the responder and the OP" will be more likely end up on 'hot' list if it is active within 24 hours of first created.
The particular discussion seen on 'today's top' received only one response and one comment from the OP for at least 10 hours...

Yes I noticed this too. Maybe it was because according to the administrators that particular discussion was rather interesting/valuable? I do agree with you though that a 'top discussion' should be one that has received several responses, and instigated a lot of discussion.

you can pick base on the topic you like or base on the discussion that got your interest

Personally I am really nit sure how this is decided. From time to time I see people doing good and others who keep you wondering as well. All I know is you get paid here from responding back or others who post even when they are not keeping comforting thoughts in harms way.

My guessing is the topic which got rated in highest number is (on the particular day) considered as the highest rated discussion. There is no considerations of number of responses or how active the topic. Many time the most active discussion on the day never make the highest rated discussion. It is selected randomly, not done by manually. The funny thing is, many times the highest rated discussion got deleted due to violation of guidelines later.
Now my question is, will the administration reconsider the criteria of getting highest rated discussion. I felt the highest rated discussion should be the most active discussion on the day on number of responses and activity and it should not be a topic of violating any guidelines.

After posting my response, I quickly thought whether you are talking about the highest rated or today's top topic. Both are different. Today's topic will move on every now and then according to the activities. If one topic got on top, next minute another topic is on active then the topic moved to down and this process goes on. So there is no fixed topic as today's top, every topic will come and go under this category.

I 'THINK' this is chosen at random, i have seen at times such discussions have few responses only
