I am just wondering. In our country, the old folks believe that when a child has hiccups it means he or she is growing. We've always believed that. Do you have this belief too? I wonder what causes hiccups? Is it swallowing too much air or what? Is it air being blocked? It can be annoying if it happens to you. Luckily for me I never had hiccups for years. Does this have anything to do with age? Is it because I won't grow anymore? I know I am asking such silly questions but I am just wondering.

Hiccups doesn't mean you are growing. Hiccups are caused by taking in air as you eat or drink. It can be annoying if it continues to happen over and over again. Maybe eat correctly and not hurriedly so you don't get the hiccups. When I am hungry I get them because I eat too fast at first.

I have never heard of it as a cause for when a child is growing, that is probably just folklore. As for some of the other things you mentioned, swallowing air is one other major cause. The other is age sometimes. My brother does it alot after eating alot at night and burping. He literally sounds disgusting though. I wish he would get to see a dr for it and for that cough he has daily and on going too long now.
