I went to town yesterday canvassing what to buy gifts this coming Christmas, since our bonus is to be given soon, coz i think i will save money when buying them earlier. There was a time when i was at the mall,i am looking for a blouse for me to use during our Christmas party. I noticed that wherever i go the saleslady keeps on surrounding me all the time. I find it irritating and makes me think "Do i really look that suspicious, for her to be with me wherever i go?" Thinking of that thing makes me really feel bad, though i am not the only customer there. It really pisses me off and takes away my good mood. I left that mall and go home straightly. I didn't continue on canvassing since i already lose the good day i had. Well you guys? did you experience also such things? what did you feel then?

Maybe they're surrounding not because of the reason you're thinking. Sometimes they're instructed to stick with customers whenever the boss is around to make it seem like they're actually working. Plus, it's more convenient for some customers since they don't have to seek for a sales rep whenever they wanna ask a question about products.

It's like asking why the ball lands on the reds and not the blacks, and sometimes the blacks, not the reds. By chance. I'm sure they have no other reason why they stuck with you. You may be thinking about this too much. Paranoia is not a soothing thing to get sucked into so just relax. It's not a big deal.

Many encountered the same situation as you before. I also met such salesguys, but when he looked me, I just said i just had a look, and he then went away. So i suggest you don't keep silent all the time. If not, he will always look at you. Of course, jez can also ask him why he look at you. Don't let such a matter ruin your good mood. It is a liitle case i think.

I can understand that. Although, we should really not be bothered with it, it just sometimes becomes irritating when these salesladies do not know how to treat their customers well. They think that since they are suppose to watch over the products that they are selling, they need to be that way. They should learn to make their distance from customers and still be alert.

Yeah you both have points,Well i think their strategy does not suits all people. it makes people uncomfortable n the way they act. Instead of making more sales i think they will lose sale for that.

I agree, it's pretty understandable that she's just doing her job in a sense that when you ask assistance, she will be there to provide it. Sometimes it also bothers me when a sales lady follows me around while I am trying to make a choice because I just can't freely move and each step I take, I would bump into her. Times, like this, you can try asking her nicely that you're just looking and would it be alright if you will just call her when you need her? It works all the time, and the sales lady will just be willing to do just that, anything to make a sale and make sure that their clients and potential clients will have a good shopping experience in their establishment. Don't sweat over it, don't let it bother you next time. It's their job to make a sale. Now if despite your request and she didn't cease to "pester" you, then you can walk out or move along to the next store.

i was in the mall monday and the saleslady was sorting the stocks. when i stood near her looking at some of the merchandise, she stopped so she can wait for my "orders." i told her i'm just looking and to go on arranging her inventory. i moved to another display and overheard two saleslady talking about a customer not coming back for about 30 mins already. one said "it only means two things. she's taking a long time fitting it and can't decide or we were victimized by a shoplifter." when you think about it, it's a hard job. they need to stand all day in heels even if they don't feel well. they have to put up with all kinds of customers and keep rearranging the display. if nobody attends to them, they're labeled as lazy, but we also don't want them near us. even when the customer says they'll take the item, they can still change their mind at the cashier so no sale. then they have to watch out for shoplifters. they are at our mercy so i just put myself in their shoes. sometimes i even chat with them and learn something.

It somehow makes me realize that, but i guess that saleslady i met is not counted with those ones you have, coz she really stares bad at me, that thing really makes me mad, why does she needs to look that way? And that's why it made me think that am i really suspicious? They judge me right away.

i would probably make a joke about it. for me, we can choose how we perceive things and not let others dictate on our emotions. if we know we're innocent, there's no need to assume anything or be affected.

Actually that also irritates me sometimes, as if I don't know what I really need. I guess malls should change their way of entertaining their customer. Maybe they should allow their shoppers to shop and look around freely without the sales person bugging and keep asking what we are looking for.

Yes making us enjoy our freedom to shop really does matter, they should not limit us to explore what we want.I agree that they need to change that, if not they cannot make more sales instead they will push the customers away.

I think they'd been trained to do that and it is annoying. I had a similar experience years ago. I was looking for a blouse too and this saleslady kept on folding the blouse that I was looking every time. Then I would move to another area and she is still there tailing me. Finally I told her to stop following me because I was only looking and not buying.

Most of the saleslady I've met were nice, they're rarely irritating me. If I meet that kind of irritating saleslady I will definitely walk out from the store. There's one time I have the bad experience was with the lady at the high-end make up store, maybe she thought I can't afford her stuffs.

Yes maybe they think that we are at the wrong place. They judge right away without even knowing the person. They are just saleslady and not the owner, so they better not do that.
• Philippines

The saleslady was following you because that is part of her job, to make sure that all customers will be assisted. Maybe you have just taken it wrongly. Although, some saleslady really have that this-looks-like-another-window-shopper look in their face and most of them don't even smile! But others are okay and friendly. I experienced a lot of these and if the saleslady isn't smiling nor she doesn't look accommodating, i transfer to another shop, simple as that. Good customer service is a must and if they cant give me that, they wont have my business either.

Hi friend, mostly sales persons are in this sort, they don't give importance to the customer's privacy and force them to buy their things to get commissions. I too faced this kind of situations a lot of times, some times i will buy the things if it is essential for me, otherwise i will move from that place

Yes, it doesn't really matters to them i guess.I think they really don't know what they are doing, Or maybe they misunderstood their job, Instead of making us comfortable they intend to make us feel the worst.

Probably, she wanted to assist you. We never know what is in her mind. Anyway, some really annoyed if a sales lady is around. I've known a different case, a saleslady ignored the customer and assisted another customer. This made the first customer felt bad. People really differ from one another. Have a nice day!

I really think not, she stares at me really bad and thing thing makes me in a bad mood. Why should she do that to a customer? Is it because i did not properly dressed that time? i Don't think so. Well your kinda right on saying that persons differ and yes there are saleslady that has a good attitude,But i will exclude this saleslady that i met.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. It happens to me a lot! I mean, yes its their job but being swarmed by an army of sales person or a sales lady while you are trying to shop. Personally I get uneasy with this, not that I would steal or anything, its just plain irritating. Its like you're trying to look for something or checking out the item really closely and then there they are, staring at you while you are doing it. I'm sorry to say all this but, I'm just not comfortable being looked at while I shop. Yes, I know they are there if we need assistance but I'm not asking any.

Right if we really ask for their assistance, then they can do so. But apparently i did not ask it.And one thing is, i also feel like they are judging me because of my outfit that i am not very well dressed. GGrr!! is that how they treat customers?I hope not.

Why do you feel annoyed, when she is just doing her job? It is her job to assist you, and don't you like that you have instant assistant. You could have asked her a lot of things, maybe she really like to help you. You could have told her, I politely and honestly that you are bothered having her around you, and you couldn't think straight of what to shop.

I think she is not doing the right thing, First of all the way she stares at me is not good at all, as if like i am not welcome there, i think its because of my attire of being not well dressed up, would make her conclude that i am not suitable there.

I don't think it's all about suspicion. Perhaps you are the only one who looked like someone who's actually going to buy, so she wanted to "assist" you. They are instructed to follow customers. It actually used to annoy me sometime ago but eventually I learned from a saleslady friend that they need to close a sale everyday that's why they strive hard to motivate people to buy. Anyhow, whenever I am annoyed, I usually just tell the saleslady that I'm just there to look around. They would leave me alone - all of the time. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Hi there laydee! thanks for making me realize that one, but assistance i guess is not like that. "following" is not an "assistance". Maybe your right in telling them that you are only there to look around, i'll try it if it happens again.

Shopping in malls is annoying and irritating with sales ladies keep following. To add, there is this bored look in their faces. I mean, shopping is shopping, right? You just hang in there (mall) and look. Maybe you will buy too. But you choose most of the time. Not all people buy right away the first item that they see. we choose and choose I have this feeling too that they are following me because do I look suspicious to them?
@jeztrose (1405)

Definitely! In shopping we need not intend to buy instantly what we see, we first chose and so it is just the way girls takes most of their time in shopping. They can suggest their good products but following you is not really what saleslady needs to do. I guess they misunderstand their job or they just don't really know what truly is their job.

Haha. It is funny and I can relate with that situation. I was too really annoyed with those kind of saleslady at any stores. Some are looking on me suspiciously and some are looking at me from head to foot.Wow. As if I do not have the guts to buy those items they have been selling. Some also are gossiping.I do not know what's their use. They are just so disgusting.

Waahh!! luckily they did not look at me from head to foot, if they did i will definitely consult them about that matter. Are they happy on doing such things? though we are in the same levels, if i am not so well dressed up that doesn't mean that i am suspicious enough. They are so judgmental ..GrrR!!

for me you can`t blame the saleslady.. maybe she was asked to assist by her superior all the costumers that why she`s following you.. and that is really annoying that somebody is following you when you are looking for something to buy.. but that is her job to follow and assist the costumer even if it is annoying.. though not all stores are like this.. you just went to a store that is strict when it comes to assisting the costumers...

I guess so, but why does she only follows "ME"? there are lot of customers out there. I think that maybe i am not well dressed up that's why they are too suspicious. They must treat us all equally.
