A depressing time of year!

It is and every year it gets a little worse! People are not celebrating Thanksgiving like they used to or at all! It is like people don't care about giving thanks on Thanksgiving and spend time with family! To alot of people it is a day off from work and another day of deer hunting! In my family the older generation doesn't want to do it as much as before! The younger generation needs to pick up the slack or we won't be having many Thanksgivings and Christmas's together! To make things worse is Christmas sales are being pushed earlier and earlier every year! Christmas is so commercialzied the real reason we celebrate is pushed aside! All stores want to do is make money and get you to buy! Who cares we celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas! I am sick of this and seeing kids getting spoiled, people getting more into debt, people buying other people the wrong gifts and it is another excuse to party and drink! I miss the old days when things were simpler and Christmas meant something!

Hi Blue, It's all in what people make it. Our family celebrated Thanksgiving last Saturday so that those who are married can spend time with their other families without having to travel around so. It just makes it more relaxed and enjoyable. We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings and we all made something to contribute. It was a great time. As for Christmas, I agree they are really going overboard with it. Stores had Christmas items out this year before Halloween. We ignore it.

Yep...I agree. You could not have gotten me out there in that mob for the world. My daughter went and I thought she was nuts. I will say that she did not go out until 6am this morning which was later than many but in my opinion, still pretty crazy. I'm pretty sure it wasn't worth it for her as our gift exchange is very simple. The kids do not get all these expensive electronics and whatnot that seem to be the big draw of these sales. To start them the night before...shame on them. The workers at Walmart were literally forced to work or risk losing their jobs!! Thanksgiving is for family. They should have paid double time and let the employees choose whether or not they wanted to work. I chose to work on Thanksgiving because we celebrated ours last week. I could use the money so I am ok with it. If no one wanted to work, my boss would of locked the doors.

I don't know why my family didn't do Thanksgiving on another day! We have done that before! I will bring it up on December 14th when I see my nephew Danny who is home on leave from the Navy. I dodn't know alot of people who would do Black Friday shopping. The ones you did some started last night at 8pm at Walmart! The other went out at midnight! One of my neice-in-law's is still shopping as I type! She started at midnight! People are insane! As long as people turn up to buy things they think they need and want, the real meaning of Christmas will continue to disappear!

Since it's the biggest travel days of the year I think alot of people are still celebrating it.....everyone in my family is. My sister and her family are coming here...my brother is with his wife's family and my older sister is having her daughter and her family and her son in law's family too...I don't know anyone that isn't having a celebration....so it's still alive and well.

I feel bad this year because my family didn't get together yesterday! That has not happen since 2003! The only reason we didn't was it was a traumatic year in my family. My younger brother's oldest son was on trail and found guilty for killing someone and is in prison until he is at least 50. He was sentenced at 19. He commited the murder when he 17. Anyway no one in my family wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving that year! My oldest nephews,my sister's kids, need to pick up the slack! The older generation is not into putting in all the work for Turkey day and probaly get that way at Christmas! I wish I could do this but I have to small of a place and I could not afford to make a Turkey dinner. Things are changing and I hope thing change for the better!

I totally agree with you! The holidays seem to be all commercialized and do people now days know the real meaning of the holidays? They know that if you spend a lot of money, you'll have a good holiday. That is definitely not what Thanksgiving or Christmas is about. I know my husband and I aren't on a good financial time right now, but you don't need to have a lot of money to appreciate the holidays.

I doubt alot of people don't know the real meaning of Christmas! Spending money,if you have or not,is all the retailers care about! That is truly not the true meaning of Christmas! It amkes me sick! I know some friends who went to Walmart last night to shop for stuff, then she went to Target and Kohls, dragging husband along! One of nephews wives has been shopping since midnight and is still shopping as I type this! Christmas has really gottan out of hand!

I totally agree with you. The holidays are not celebrated at all like they should be anymore. Its very upsetting. My family ruins all the holidays also by fighting and screaming at each other.

I have had alot of crappy Christmas's over the years! Some were ruined by my dad and some by my mom. Sometimes they ruined Christmas at the sametime! My mom was great at buying presents for people, especially my dad, they didn't want or liked! Half the time the presents were half wrapped! My dad was azz alot! I never remember if I ever believed in Santa Claus! I remember we went to church on Christmas eve. In grade school,I was in a Lutheran school,we did two Christmas services. That was a good thing! Christmas sucks and it just gets worse every year!
