I enjoy spending time with my daughter and husband, as we talk about our lives. Its fun to watch holiday television shows, movies and bake for our friends. My daughter makes a list each year of people we plan to make cookies, brownies and other treats. This year we are going to add some candy. I miss some of the holiday traditions of knitting sweaters and making potholders for all my friends, but many live in warm climates and don't cook anymore. Sometimes I miss kneading bread and churning the butter by hand; however, now have a bread maker that makes it quick and easy and a grocery store within walking distance from my home. There wasn't a grocery store near my house growing up and we bartered for products with neighbors for what we needed or thought we needed. My mother sewed clothes for us and even a dress for the barnyard dances. I do miss the barnyard dances. What do you miss from your childhood? Is there anything that you would like to see return like those cute Poodle Shirts?

It was nice when the milkman came to the house. He brought fresh milk, butter and eggs. Always delivered the same time in the mornings on the designated days each family requested and always cold too. It was nice not having to also lug these things home from the market. We used to have a Charles Chip truck that came to the house once a month. My Mom always ordered a tin of chips and pretzels. The chips weren't like they are today...more potato taste and sealed in a can that stayed fresh for the month. And we would have them to snack on when we had movie night. No VCR's, DVD's or DVR's...had to get up to change the channels. Black and white until I was 8 years old, then we got a color set

I remember the days of turning the channels and fighting over what to watch that evening. We only had 3 channels, so it should have been easy. I really love the classic shows, so many I ended up buying, so now can watch them at anytime. I would love to see a truck deliver chips and pretzels; specially, chips with great taste. Some of the brands today make me not want to eat any chips. Thanks for sharing and fresh milk is great.

I miss the Five and Dime stores. I miss the neighborhood shopping centers, though my mother often drove to a further store for less expensive prices. It was, in a Safeway, that I first realized that most, if not all, of the women in the store at that time of day was someone's "Mommy" and I racked my brain (all of 6 or 7 years old) for her first name. In fact, in all the years after, I only once ever actually addressed her by her first name again, and that was because, even though I was standing in her kitchen, I couldn't get her attention...

Five and Dime Stores were so cool. I would always find something to spend my extra change at them. They would have such a great assortment of unusual hard to find items. Thanks for posting.

Christmas is not the same without my grandparents. I miss opening gifts around the Christmas tree on christmas eve. Now with 3 of the 4 of them gone, the whole family is scattered all over the country, and there are no more really larege family get-togethers anymore.

We lived 1500 miles from the rest of the family. For a few years we had my mother's father living with us in the winter and those Christmas' were especially nice. Now, its just my brother, his daughter and I in the area. We'll be doing an early Christmas once again while my sister is in town in early/mid-December.

Good to hear that you are enjoying a lot with your family members. We will get more fun and enjoyment while spending time with our family members. Each and every member in our family is playing an important role in our life. Our parents are the reason for our birth and siblings have more care and affection with us. Our grand parents told about old stories and tradition of our family. Each and every family is unique and have their own tradition. We learn a lot of things from our grand parents and parents and teach the traditional things to our kids. By this way our family tradition is carried to our next generation. In our childhood days we heard a lot of stories about our family from our grand parents as well as learned some unique family art work from them. My mother is good in cooking and stitching. My father is good in drawing, i am also interested in drawing and have the ability to draw pictures well. My grand father is a great artist, my father learned painting from him and i am impressed with my fathers art work and started to draw paintings, now my elder son is very much interested in drawings and most of the time he will scribble some thing in the papers and notebooks. This kind of activities are due to family inheritance. Since we are interested in following our family tradition, we are learning a lot of things from our elders and following them in our life. Also we will teach them to our next generation and carry it through out all our generation. During my childhood days i spend most of my time with drawings, but now i don't get enough time to draw. Really i am missing my drawing activities, anyway i am happy while seeing my son is scribing some thing in the paper and show it to me.

I do feel its important to pass down some of our traditions, as each generation can pass that tradition to the younger generation. I'll admit some traditions are harder to pass down then others like drawing, painting and building things. Its helpful to have some skill in these activities. Its great that you enjoy drawing, which is something I have zero skill had trouble passing the required class in school. Thanks for posting. Glad your son is drawing also. Its nice to share time with an activity together. Many of us are so busy that its hard to find time in our day for fun activities.

that was so wonderful. about me since Im still in my mid-20s what I do remember when I was still a kid was having to play with other kids in my community. I really miss swimming in the sea with them, playing with sands making sand castle, playing traditional plays that we have. every holidays we went to the church to have a 9 morning-mass. its really fun and sometimes Im imagining that time will go back and I will become a kid again.

I loved making sand castles also. We didn't live far from the beach and would go there at least once a month even during the rainy months. It was fun to see how big we could make the sand castles before the waves would change the sand. Thanks for posting.

Lol, momma it shows your age here, the barnyards and poodle skirts. (just kidding) I missed hiking in the mountains, when we were younger my father used to bring us to mountain for hiking. Now that my father had passed and no mountains to climb anymore me and the kids in the house (nephews, nieces) have not experience it anymore. I like to see nature again. Now I am older (very old) I am not sure if I can still walk in slope. I just wish i can have that back. Family bonding, picnic and commune with nature.

I don't think I'm ready to climb any mountains now. It does sound like something that would have been a nice challenge years ago. I always tell people nothing wrong with getting older, as we get wiser. Thanks for posting.

I am working to form new traditions with my boyfriend. We do not yet have children, so, hopefully, we have a few years to set traditions that we can share with them. Stuff from my childhood keeps popping up--or never went away. Although, jellies, jams and stirrup pants haven't returned yet in full force as fashion trends.

I am smiling as I read your post, I can imagine what you are doing. I actually just saw such thing on tv and read those on novels or pocketbooks, I can't believe that it really happens in real life. I live in a different world and different traditions. I live in a warm crowded country where what you just said never happens here. But I really wish that one time in my life I could see it with my own eyes and be there myself. At the same time my family don't have any tradition as well. I am thinking of making one for my family. I will start a new one, like my kids must come home to us during Christmas holidays and other special occasion involving us (their parents. I wish you well. Happy mylotting.

Family Traditions are big in my family as well. Your childhood sounds kinda familiar to mine other than i had a store across the street. I miss the good old 90's when i use to get up early and watch TV, I use to stay up all night and just mess around looking for new ways to sneak out.

I'll admit having a store nearby is helpful. It makes cooking a lot easier and you can speed up preparation of so many dishes. Thanks for posting.
